Aloft Leawood-Overland Park

This place was wonderful, when I did my check in the ladies ware so nice and helpful. This place was very clean, it had a modern feel to it. It’s in a great place to be at there’s a lot to do their shopping and restaurants.

I was so disappointed in this hotel. The rooms are cheaply put together. The over all style is cheap modern tackle. I was disappointed. The rooms are so cheap that you feel cold like your in jail or something.

I was really excited about this hotel when we first arrived. The lobby and interior was very well put together, with a modern décor. We checked into our room and the first thing we noticed was that it smelled like cologne and the TV was on. After looking around the room we noticed clothing tags that the previous occupants had left on the counter from American Eagle. We looked in the shower next and saw a huge hair clump in the corner and an empty box of Irish Spring bar soap from the previous occupants. We also noticed that here wasn’t a single towel, hand towel, or washcloth in the room. We then wanted to see if the sheets had been cleaned, even though the bed had clearly been made by hotel staff. When we pulled down the sheets there was hair and dirt in the sheets. So, even though the bed had been made, the sheets weren’t changed.
We went down to the front desk and asked for a different room. The woman was very apologetic, but also used the excuse that there was a «new cleaning lady on that floor.» (Even still, the bed was remade with dirty sheets!)
We were given another room just down the hall. The new room clearly had not been vacuumed and only had two towels and one hand towel (no washcloths or floor towels.)
They were kind enough to give us 2 free drinks at the bar, but I wouldn’t stay there again.

Interesting but not quite my style. Cheaply modern, kind of cool but tackle at the same time. Great location but Not for me personally.

Fun and newer looking hotel right next to trendy restaurant district and across the street from the mall. Slept quite well in the beds too. Walked to panera for breakfast, and also not a long walk to dean and deluca. Amc movie theater next door too.

Overall a pretty good experience here! The rooms were nice, but the best thing about this hotel is the location. There’s like 6 restaurants around the hotel, an extremely nice AMC movie theatre, and a shopping area. Definitely a place to check out!
Only negative thing I have to say about the place was that the refrigerator was stored under the bathroom sink. Really inconvenient and really kinda gross. I don’t know why the refrigerator wasn’t in the main area of the room. Something to think about!

This was my first time staying at an Aloft, and while I have heard many great things about these hotels, I am not sure whether they’re my thing…
This Aloft property is part of a larger shopping area not too far from the interstate. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in the area as well as what looks to be a huge mall across the street — all within walking distance. The property is bright, inviting, and smells great. Front desk reception is on the 2^nd floor, and everyone I came in contact with was amazing. Lots of comfortable seating and a supermarket-​like place to grab food 24÷7÷365 if you need to. They also have a gym with towel and water service and a pool that goes up to 5.5 feet deep. I used both during my stay and both areas were clean and well-​stocked. The wifi in the hotel rooms and in the common areas is free and (more importantly) has a really strong signal.
What I wasn’t impressed with was the room and the parking. I did get the king-​sized bed I requested, but the bed wasn’t that comfortable. The space was also kind of cramped, which threw me off a bit. Maybe it was the setup of the room, but I felt like the room was all bed and no living space. They have a very small closet area on the other side of the bed (I could only hang a few things up there) and the coffee station wasn’t fully stocked. The bathroom was also weird — although I closed the door really tightly as I took a shower, I still managed to flood the entire toilet area + most of the sink area. Because they only provided enough towels for one person, I had to use all of them to soak up the water (thank goodness I brought my own towel). I was mortified about this until I read additional Unilocal reviewers saying this happened to them as well… design flaw perhaps? The in-​room refrigerator was also stored underneath the bathroom sink — that can’t be sanitary. The only thing that made up for this weirdness was the Bliss products stocked in the bathroom.
Also, I learned the hard way that Aloft does not have their own parking for their guests. When I first arrived, I was able to snag one of the three spaces they have directly in the front of the hotel. If I had to move my car and come back after a certain time (which I did), I would have to park in the parking garage across the street, which can be a 10 minute walk depending on what level you wind up parking in. This to me seems inconvenient, especially if you are returning to your hotel room after hours or if you have a large amount of luggage to carry. However, that was my fault for not researching this fully, so I took the L and kept it moving.
Would I stay again? Now that I know how things work, probably. I was in town for business and my meetings are always held at an office that is literally down the street, so it’s really convenient. I also loved the staff — despite all of the weirdness they made my stay bearable.

Like all Aloft hotels. Same room designs, with bar, pool and pool table. Quick check-​in and with my SPG Gold (soon to be Platinum) membership, they always remember my high floor requests and additional points or a drink at the bar.

Just attended a small wedding reception here tonight. The 2^nd floor outdoor veranda is a fabulous place for accommodating the food, the bar, dance space, DJ, and intimate tables. Excellent choice for our not too rowdy crowd.
When you enter the building the beautiful lobby smells REALLY nice. Staff was friendly at the check in desk. The bride and groom get kudos for having great taste in the venue.

Clean and convenient hotel that highly emphasizes a self serve culture.
Pros:
— has a handful of decent restaurants/​shops within walking distance
— they provide Bliss lotion, shampoo/​conditioner (all in one), shower gel and bar soap
— decent gym (3 treadmills, 3 or 4 ellipticals, weight machines, weights, etc) and pool
— grab and go breakfast (although super overpriced)
— has a fridge in the room
Cons:
— 250 green spg points/​night (vs 500 green points/​night at the nearby Sheraton)
— doesn’t have a convenient place for you to hang your towel
— sheets and pillows are very fluffy (feels a bit old actually)
— turning off/​on the lights can be confusing (gahh)
— AC unit is loud
Decent hotel, but the room layout isn’t the most guest friendly.

Was too expensive for what you get. They added an additional $ 30 BS fee to my bill and said it was for the local 17% tax wtf?
Breakfast was shit!

Very modern decorated hotel. The parking is away from the hotel in a park garage not real convenient. It is very close to lots of shops and restaurants. My husband and I came in for a few days sightseeing so a decent location. I was not real impressed with the service. I had to call and request clean towels and cleaning supplies were left in our room. They also place a 100.00 hold on my debit card the room was completely paid for before arrival. If I had known before I would have brought a credit card. Staff was not friendly and did not offer any suggestions of things to see or do in the area. Would nor choose this hotel in the future.

Love this hotel! We stayed two nights and there isn’t anything that we were dissatisfied with. The rooms are modern and clean. The complimentary bath products were great. The two huge things for us were the free wifi and parking. We estimate that we saved at least $ 45 from what we have paid at hotels in the past. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is awesome there are a handful of delicious restaurants, tons of shopping and a AMC movie theater in walking distance from Aloft. Would definitely come back!

I love the location. The feel is the same as other aloft hotels around the country unless it is one if there new styles with revised rooms. Comfy beds, modern feel. I wish there was more of a food option than to just pick some snacks and stand in the checkout line. I believe someone posted its like 7 – 11 meets motel 6.
The room design does not allow you to sit at the desk and see the tv at the same time. This is either a horrible design or a message that I need to stop working while watching the tube. I will stay again in this location and others.

I really didn’t want to write this review, but after a follow up phone call from the hotel I’ve decided it’s necessary. I am going to start with the primary issue. We stayed here for 2 nights over the Thanksgiving holiday. My husband travels the world regularly for work and always leaves the housekeeper’s a tip. It’s something he believes strongly in. Both mornings he left a $ 5 tip on the bed. The first day our room was cleaned and the tip was gone. The second day, we left the room about 10:00 am (left the tip on the bed and made sure the door ‘downtime’ sign was removed to signal them to clean the room). We returned around 3:00 pm, and the $ 5 tip was gone from the bed, and the room had not been cleaned at all! I want to say that nothing else was missing from our room. My husband immediately went to the front desk to report this and was surprised that they didn’t really seem to act like this was a big deal. They called for the person on duty at the time in charge of housekeeping and my husband was questioned by him about details like «did we take the hanger off the door»? My husband walked him into the room and pointed to the exact spot where we left the $ 5 and showed him that the room had not been cleaned. They then had the room cleaned immediately and told us to make sure we got some free breakfast credits. Still, no real reaction of concern. The next morning, when we were checking out and grabbing some breakfast on the run I discussed the situation with the girl at the desk. I had to ask for our free breakfast, because of course there were no notes in the system. I explained to her our day before, and I will say that she was very shocked and very apologetic. She did not charge us for our breakfast and gave us some extra starwood points. I told her that I felt the manager of the hotel should be made aware of this situation. She took down my name and number and told me that a manager would be in contact with me. Today, only a few days later, I did receive a phone call, but not from the manager of the hotel. The manager of housekeeping called me. She immediately attempted to place blame on us, stating that she spoke with the housekeepers and that they tried to come to our room a few times and the hanger was always on the door. I was shocked to say the least. I am very surprised that the manager of the hotel did not find it necessary to call me. This is no different than theft! Someone entered our room, took the $ 5 off our bed, and left without performing any services at all. So, now that I am already writing this review I will move on to a few other smaller issues we had while there.
While my husband and son were waiting for the room to be cleaned late in the afternoon, they went to the lounge area to see if there were any games on the tv’s in the bar area. They grabbed a couple chairs, and were immediately told that my son could not sit there because he is not 21. I totally understand that there are very strict rules in place, but it is all in how you handle the situation. The guy behind the bar was extremely rude. There was no one else in the bar at all.
I had two different items at the breakfast station, a banana muffin and and english muffin, both were very stale.
This was our second time staying at this hotel, and sadly will be our last. It’s a great location, and we will be making a lot of upcoming trips to KC but will be looking for someplace new!

My feelings pretty much mirror Shauna Rs down below. The place is long on ‘hipness’ (e.g. ‘Do Not Disturb’ has been morphed to ‘Downtime’). The lobby rooftop patio is neat in pleasant weather. The lobby bar was pretty good and reasonable. The surrounding restaurants are really good. The Wifi is free. Television is basic cable, some HD, with Showtime. Those are the pluses.
But my impression is this place is really spartan, and very light with hospitality services. Staff is pretty young and clumsy with service courtesies. I would not call our suite luxurious, at all. Pretty basic. Think Holiday Inn Express with some loud, hip colors and design cues. Formica design cues. Teeny ‘closet’. Shower only, no tub. Not enough towels. No mini bar, just a dorm fridge’. Strange floorplan that really meant we were paying 50% more for a ‘suite’ that felt no larger or more useful than one of their regular rooms. Plunger dispenser soap and shampoo. You start noticing some things all around the property that look like they were overdue for maintenance. The
business center kiosk was non-​functional, the lobby pool table (nice touch) was badly stained, miscellaneous hardware and/​or switchplates on the floors and walls chipped, cracked or missing, etc. Not really big deals. But not solid either.
The Breakfast Bar (the only on-​site food service) is self-​serve, carry your items to the front desk, wait in line, pile it on the counter and pay for it. Kind of a 7 – 11 meets Motel 6.
You are urged to ‘Go Green’ by foregoing daily linen replacement. That’s somewhat common. But beware. If you do, they don’t even come in. That means no coffeemaker refills, etc. Stopping by the front desk to request some new coffee wares was greeted with a sideways tilt of the head, a bit of confusion followed by a ‘Just a minute’, looking in some drawers at the front desk, a page to someone else and finally, after a pregnant pause of a few minutes, that someone else shoving a pile of small packages into our hands. I guess we were the very first guests to ask for more coffee stuff, ever. Of course, less services means a lower cost structure for the hotel. That’d be fine but they are charging a premium rate, but deliver HI Express (or less) service.
Not awful-​terrible. But, in this case, ‘Go Green’ has a ‘mo money for Starwood’ vibe. ‘Go cheap’ is more like it.

I loved my stay here and I hope I’ll be able to stay again in the future when I can spend more time here!
So I stayed here while in Leawood for a job interview. Unfortunately I had to work both days I was in KC and wasn’t able to spend much time here, so take my review with a grain of salt. I was kind of skeptical at first after walking a mile from the free parking garage to the hotel. All the Park Place street parking is 30 minute only and Aloft only has three parking spots. I mean honestly? And they want you to park on the 3^rd floor of the garage. Anyways, enough of the hassle of actually getting to and from the hotel…
I walked in on ground floor and it’s really cool how they have stuff set up here. And in all of Park Place. It really is a beautiful, upscale faux downtown area. You wouldn’t think you are where you are type of place. So they have several restaurants right near the hotel entrance, which all happened to be closed except the sushi place by when I got here (10PM). BUT, you have a Burger-​Fi, Gordon Biersch, and Ra right next door which is nice. Ra you can actually see through a giant glass wall in the entrance of Aloft. Kind of neat. Along with some contemporary art and fountains/​waterfall things.
The two employees at the check in desk were awesome and super helpful, I wish I could remember their names! They were able to help me around the area and she was even nice enough to call some restaurants and find me a palce for late night food! Amazing, thank you. So the lobby is on the second floor which is odd I guess. They have a large outdoor patio that goes out over the driveway which is a really neat place to hang out. Not to mention the trendy lounge and seating areas inside. Nice concession area though I didn’t spend a lot of time looking at it.
My bedroom was fantastic. I love the look of the rooms, it just took me a while to find out where to put everything! There are no drawers in these rooms, everything is contemporary and open. Lots of shelves and space to put stuff! They do have a digital safe inside also which came in handy for me. Great bathroom and I loved the look of everything. I will say, for only being several years old my room looked oddly beat up. Lots of small scratches/​dents in walls and ceiling, gaps in trip and the floor near the shower cracking. It’s to be expected, but I wish due to the class and atmosphere these things were fixed.
Hoping I can stay here again when I come back!

My apologies for the long review, but this is my experience with the Leawood Aloft;
We stayed here the night of our wedding. We booked the block of rooms for family and friends about 6 months in advance. The closer to the wedding day we got, the more difficult it was to accomplish anything with the hotel. Their biggest issue is how fragmented all of the responsibilities sit within the management structure. No one person can seem to help you with anything, it was always «someone else’s department».
While every person we interacted with was very friendly, including the sales woman her served as our main contact, it was difficult to get a straight answer from them about anything. For example, the hotel has a courtesy shuttle that runs at seemingly random times. Our reception was held within a literal 1 and a half minute drive from the hotel. A month out from the wedding I inquired about the availability of a shuttle for my wife and I from the reception to the hotel. The saleswoman helping us said she needed to get in touch with someone else to get that answer. A couple weeks past without an answer, called the hotel again, got the same answer; that someone else still needed to be contacted. Three days before my wedding I was told that the shuttle was not available that night. This would not have been a problem if I was told up front.
We pre-​reserved about 10 rooms for our guests that needed to be spoken for 3 weeks prior to the wedding, which is understandable. What they didn’t tell us, however, is the only way to get the group rate for our guests was for them to book online. We had a couple of guests call and book their rooms via the front desk, giving our names to the agent at the time of reservation. After receiving a list of guests that had books, only 1 of the 3 were showing up. I inquired about this and was told that the rooms were not applied to the block rate by the agent. When asked if this could be adjusted, I was again told they would look into it. Three days prior to the wedding I was told nothing could be done to get them the group rate due to their systems.
Finally, our group rate was set to be 90 dollars (including our room). We were also told that we would get a free upgrade to a corner king room (their version of a honeymoon suite). We were upgraded to the corner room, which was nice, but the credit card was charged 120 (140ish after taxes). When I called to inquire after the wedding, I was again sent to a different department, which was apparently one person who was not in the office. I left a voicemail on her machine and have not heard back since. Every time I call about this matter I get sent back to this voicemail.
My issue with aloft was with the customer service. The fragmentation they have within management makes it very difficult to get anything done or any questions answered. At the end of the day, I paid a cab to take us to the hotel, our guests didn’t seem to mind paying a bit extra, and I only missed out on a small amount of money. But this was not a pleasant experience trying to plan anything in advance. I suggest you take your block room booking needs elsewhere in Leawood/​OP.

FREE BOTTLE OF WATER! IS THIS EVEN AMERICA?
The room is basically a very nice giant bed. The style throughout is very avant-​garde and it currently works, but I suspect in five years the place will be terrifying. The check in desk is on the 2^nd floor? And is the smallest I’ve ever seen. It’s the size of an old timey well that Timmy would fall into it.
The real reason you want to stay here is it is basically attached to several drinkeries: Gordon Biersch, a Gastropub, some other stuff I forgot because of alcohol brain, and all of this was glorious. You’re in Kansas so what else are you going to do? Or you’re in Missouri. Either way you’re bored and should leave so you might as well drink!
Also there’s a lovely breakfast place right across the way with great hangover food. The only bad part is parking is a bit hard to find and a little far initially, but no biggee.

The hotel very clean. they so pretty and the price so good. I will comeback.
