Fromm’s Field

It is time to set record straight. Fromme’s Field is a lovely camp ground very close to the activities in town for Oktoberfest.
We are here in our motor coach, but there are about 8 campers in tents not far from us.
The first 2 days were dry, but now it is raining. If you are in a tent, you would want to be prepared.
There is one cat which never came close to our space. 3 dogs, very friendly, and not a problem.
This Campground is 30 acres. 8 campsites. All with tables. Sani can & water at the spigot. Handy garbage cans & all the wood you can burn for $ 10 a day donation to the owners sons who gather and chop the wood.
This is as good as it gets for dry camping. The shuttle picked us up and dropped us off. Walk to the bus stop took us 12 minutes. This is a wonderful family Campground right on the river. We will be back for sure.

Where to start.
A) They closed their old camping location and neglected to tell us that tidbit at any point after the time we made a camping reservation for Oktoberfest, months in advance. After driving around in the old area and seeing no indication of the location, we finally called and the woman told us that they had moved and gave us the new address. We used our GPS and ended up driving down a long residential road, where there were zero signs or indication that Fromm’s Field was anywhere until we were practically in the driveway. It did not look like the old location at all, it was basically someone’s yard with one port-​o-​potty. The pricing was also higher than what we had been quoted in advance by $ 10, and no apology was offered for either the change in location OR the additional charge which wasn’t made clear in advance.
B) Unlike the old location where the Oktoberfest shuttle picked up near the campground, the shuttle was now a half mile walk away. Now, I’m sure you can guess that as a group of 24 year old girls, walking 15 minutes down Wilson street in the pitch black dark at night is totally ridiculous. We definitely wouldn’t have stayed here if we’d known that.
C) Cats. What’s that you say? Cats? Yes, cats. There were three young cats that completely ruined our camping experience… I know that sounds crazy and dramatic, but during our stay these cats:
— Burrowed under, climbed on and got their claws caught in the mesh of our tent/​tarps/​ropes/​anything that moved or we were trying to situate during setup and during camping
— Continually tried to bolt or sneak into our tent any time we unzipped it
— Brought a live mouse up to us and proceeded to «play with it» while it screamed and squealed in agony, becoming caught and chewed on again and again in front of us, IN our campsite.
— Used the area under a tree on our campsite as their official litter box and defecated within 10 feet of our fire/​picnic table/​cooking area at least 15 times during the two day stay
— Jumped into our laps completely uninvited, startling us (who ever expects a cat to jump on them from under their picnic table?) and getting mud on our clothes (it was raining much of the weekend)
— Jumped up onto our grill, table, chairs… Practically everything we had set up above the dirt.
(For the record, I am a cat person. But when you’re camping in the rain in Leavenworth the last thing you want is three muddy teen cats all over you, wrecking your campsite, and killing animals in front of you. Totally inappropriate!)
D) On the second day we ran out of water in our gallon jug, and upon walking up to the «water» spicket that was set up near the single port-​o-​potty, I found it to be turned off. No water. We had to walk up to the owner’s house and personally request that the water be turned on, over 24 hours after we had been physically staying at the camp site. Seriously? Turn the water on when your paying customers ARRIVE, not when they complain that the water is off.
E) After packing up our stuff on Sunday, we went up to the house in the late morning to address these concerns with the owners. No answer at the door whatsoever.
This was my first Oktoberfest, and I had a blast– With the exception of «Cat Hell», AKA «Fromms’ Field», AKA «someone’s yard».
