The Float House

THIS IS WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!
I went there this past weekend on a mini vacation with some friends and their family members. This place is awesome!
We went during the off season so it was pretty chilly, but the view was still incredible. The house is (yes) floating, and this cozy place has all the amenities a hotel would have, and more. Literally, all you would have to bring is your clothes and food. Everything else is provided from the entertainment (music, board games, pool table, shuffle board, lake) to the condiments and spice in the cabinets.
It sleeps up to 14 people, with beds coming out of walls and all sorts of other places. The deck has two grills (charcoal/​gas), and there is even a place to build a fire right in the middle of it all! We fished from the wee hours in the morning into the dark depths of the night. Just filleting and frying this fresh fish on the deck made it all the more tasty.
OH, and they have a rope swing that adjusts with the level of the house you want to jump off of. Of course it was too cold to jump in, but the potential! The potential!!! This would be great in the summer with good food and even better company. ^_​^
(I actually took a full dip in the water trying to convince someone to jump, but as I was wading in the freezing cold [feeling like a badass!], I realized that the feeling of a thousand icicles piercing the body would do [no body] good…)
The owners said that this was their dream home, but in the spirit of giving, thought that other people should enjoy it too. Awww, isn’t that sweet? (Though I’m sure the extra cash in their wallet doesn’t hurt!)

I spent a weekend here for a bachelor party and had an absolute blast. Any man’s man can tell the owner went to great lengths to cram as much fun into one floating vessel as possible. The pool table and shuffleboard are cool, but I feel what sets this place apart are the rope swing (off the roof) and the fish light that allows the party to continue IN the water long after the boats have docked.
It is a bit of a trek by car, but stock up on groceries and you don’t have to leave for anything. If you have a boat, even better. Head out to your favorite waterfront bar, pick up some friends and head back to the house for the afterparty — you won’t disturb anyone.

I’ve never rented the Float House but I did go here for a party once. Have you ever been dragged to a party that you absolutely did not want to go to and then ended up having a lot of fun? Well, I credit that to the Float House.
Pool, Shuffle board, rope swings, awesome deck… a house that FLOATS? How could you not have fun?
To top it off my suggestion of the Float House resulted in a really fun bachelorette party (or so I’m hearing) which makes this place even cooler.

This is the kind of place that you can just tell the owner and his buddies had a fantastic time dreaming up, building and furnishing. They really thought of everything, from the shuffleboard table downstairs to the Murphy bunk beds upstairs, to the crane based rope swing and light at the bottom of the lake to watch the fish swim.
I would definitely recommend getting a group of your friends together to rent the Float House for a weekend. I would also recommend getting there by boat instead of having to go up and down those stairs. That was scary. At least everyone had a good laugh watching the fear on my face when I saw them for the first time.

Quite possibly the most unique lake house rental in Austin, and easily the coolest. After searching for the perfect spot to have a slumber party for my bachelorette party, fellow Unilocaler, Cody R, recommended the Float House. Its a 2 story, 3 bedroom house built on a barge, literally on the lake. It comes complete with a pool table, shuffleboard table, and a rope swing. But the huge deck with fire pit is where we spent most of our time. They even thought to put a light underwater to watch the fish swim at night. Even though it would probably be ideal to stay here in the summer when you can take advantage of the boat and swimming, we found it quite fun to be out there in the fall with the fire pit, s’mores, and sleeping with the windows opens. Just beware, the fishermen can pull their boats right up to the house, so make sure you are fully dressed when you step out onto the deck with your morning coffee!
