A locally owned restaurant, and a LeRoy gem at that. The owner has been part of the community for years and ensures the service is both prompt and welcoming. Vegan friendly — I recommend the garlic lover’s delight.

I don’t like giving 5 stars, but this place was great! I was in town for the holidays, visiting family, and Unilocaled for a breakfast place to find the Depot. As we walked in, 4 older gentlemen walked out with great smiles on their face… Good sign!!! As the name would indicate, it is housed in an old train depot. Very quaint setting! When we walked in, we were greeted and seated by an energetic and friendly lady, who I imagine is the restaurant’s matriarch. There is a delightful, but understated, train motif. They have a promotional raffle to guess how many teddy bears are depicted or used in their decorations. You could win $ 400!!! The food… SPECTACULAR! My wife got an egg dish, it was called something like the big engine or something. Came with eggs, toast, thick and crispy bacon and home fries. She said everything was delicious! I had the crispy French toast… French toast rolled in corn flakes… Delicious! I bought home fries on the side. I’m a home fries snob, and these were some of my favorite! The food was GREAT! The waitress was extremely attentive and friendly! The environment was cozy. This place deserves the rare 5 star rating.

A great place to stop and eat. We were on our way to Niagara falls and found this place thanks to Unilocal. The place is a beautiful old train station. The food was excellent. We order clam chowder, cream cod and haddock. Everything was delicious.

Doesn’t eating in a former train station awesome? Well to some people no, but to me, it’s incredible. Imagine enjoying a meal and then all of a sudden, a train chugs on by shaking the entire building so much that everyone starts to topple over, crumble and well you get the point. D&R Depot is unique, probably one of the more interesting restaurants I have eaten at in Rochester. This was a destination on a road trip to East Aurora but recommendations from my grandparents urged me to go give it a try. Visually, it’s appealing on the outside and looks to be well kept which extends to the inside of the restaurant. Minus the really creepy lifesize dolls sitting at the front entrance, the décor reflects a train theme. This is completed by a large upside down model train suspended from the ceiling of the main dining area that seems to go around an never-ending circle. It will keep your amusement for a short period of time but it’ll get old quickly. Sadly, while I appreciate the design of the restaurant and love it for what it is, it is a tad dated. Moving on from that, the food was really more important but with an odd restaurant like this, I really didn’t know what the highlights of the menu were. The menu is a mixed bag of American classics like hamburgers but also chicken dishes as well as soups and salads. I made the mistake of ordering a Steak Sandwich, probably one of the more disappointing dishes to come out that menu but still, it’s not terrible. Prior to getting the main course, they hand out a basket of baked bread goods which included types of dinner rolls and muffins as sort of an appetizer to the meal. Hard to say whether these are fresh or not but I enjoyed the dinner rolls, they had good flavor and were nice and fluffy. Sadly, I really wasn’t expecting the sandwich to be so… miserable. The steak was tiny, which I would estimate it to be around 4oz. served on hard bread topped with a sauce I was never able to figure out, served with a side of French fries. The fries were crispy and hot but the great side dish didn’t make up for the lackluster entrée. There was flavor in the sandwich and had decent taste but the presentation was so poor, it did affect my appetite. When the owner came around just to check up to see how I was doing, I didn’t want to upset her so I said I was enjoying my meal just fine. Next time, I will order something different on the diverse menu because I really do want to give D&R another try. The atmosphere is great, service by the staff and owner are commendable, and the food, when chosen correctly, is surprisingly great. With such positives and negatives going against this former train station, I hope to find that one dish here that makes me a return customer for more years to come.

The best place I have been to in forever! Walk in and greeted by the friendliest hostess ever. Sweet lady with a great smile! Sat us right away and the building has amazing character. Light music so you could still hear the people you were sitting with. Make sure yoy look up for yhe train! The menu has choices for everyone and not just the typical choices either. In our party we had soup of the day(loaded baked potatoe) and french onion served with scissors! I think everyone in the place had one of the pot pies on their table, the rueben… and I had a shrimp blt! Who knew that would work!!! sweet potatoe waffle fries too. The the waitress brought us a basket of mixed baked goods and rolls. Still warm! And it was like having dessert before dinner. Food was fantastic, served fast and so fresh! Every employee was smiling, happy and friendly! And we couldn’t leave without homemade fresh desserts! Peanut butter choc chip pie, cream puffs and tons of other choices. So worth the trip!!!

What an awesome meal. You get the amount of food. The service was terrific. The watriess here really do run around. They have breakfast lunch and supper. If you like old train stations good food and trains; come here. On the weekend call ahead and make reservations.

I only ever get the adult portion of home made mac and cheese. It’s my FAVORITE and I just can’t let myself choose anything else when I go there. My stepfather loves the french onion soup. We get lucky and usually a train goes by anytime we go. What I also love is the warm bread/muffins with butter before our meal comes out.

Sometimes it’s easy to get lulled into a normal routine and one is craving something different, this was the case Sunday morning. Looking for a great homemade meal served with a smile and in a most unique setting is what you’ll get at the D&R Depot. Worth every mile driven from Rochester to Leroy you will find a charming little nugget in this restaurant. On this recent visit we had breakfast.(I’ve had lunch and dinner there too) but this time it was a 10:00am Sunday breakfast. You are warmly greeted by Nancy, the owner. She is so pleasant and welcoming, how great to always see her awaiting you upon arrival. Quickly seated in this classic train staton our waitress was right over offering delicious coffee, served in a cup and saucer(how classic is that), I had an egg breakfast sandwich on a bagel and my companion had eggs, ham(a very thick slice), home fries and toast, all delicious. We split a small order of the crunchy French toast, for a little sweet and it too was fabulous. Served quickly and hot, no complaints! I love this place and most definitely recommend it for great home cooking in a wonderfully charming station with GREAT character and warmth.

At one time this train station was the hub of the town, and this Town goes by no other Name then«Le Roy, New York». In its day folks would travel across this country of ours by the only safe means of transportation which back then was always the train. As people were waiting for other trains to carry them to their final destinations many people would sit close to a huge potbelly stove to warm up or get themselves a freshly brewed cup of coffee or hot chocolate. But now a days this very same restaurant has been converted into the home of the D & R Depot where folks still come to enjoy home cooking and just sit back and enjoy the surroundings of family and friends. While in my travels, I came across this restaurant and decided to check out their breakfast menu. As most restaurants now a days offer everyone bottomless cups of your favorite beverage. I wanted to try their french toast dipped in corn flakes… the slices were a little thicker then your usual size of toast. But, I have to be honest, I was taken back by the taste of this corn flakes french toast, it left a lot to be desired. I guess it would have been better if I was a fan of corn flakes which is not the case. They were cooked just how I like my french toast cooked but to have these flakes dropping off my fork and landing where ever well, I was a bit enbarrassed by the sloppiness it was causing me. But I guess you could have said that I had both my toast and cereal all at once. I will be back there were many other items that I look forward to sinking my teeth into.

Wonderful location. Literally 10 feet from railroad tracks. Creative menu. They celebrate grilled cheese month, with a unique sandwich every day. Mine was extra sharp cheddar, carmalized onions and mustard on rye. Superb. My dining companion had chicken pot pie, which was outstanding when the cranberry sauce was added. Desserts were amazing too. Super nice hostess and servers. Unique charm like getting a wooden nickel when a train rolls by, redeemable for dessert on your next visit.

We enjoyed our stop at D&R. We were passing through the area on our way back from the Finger Lakes and Unilocal suggested this stop, so we went. We were greeted by what has to be one of the cutest old ladies in existence. The food was reasonably priced for what you got. The French onion soup was good, with enough cheese that they give you scissors to cut through it with. The garlic pasta was ok, but slightly under seasoned. My wife and I really enjoyed the chicken pot pie. It was essentially chicken pot pie filling in a bowl with a biscuit on top that had been rolled thin like a pita. The side salads were good, but honestly it’s a side salad, can it be amazing? I would certainly stop by again if I were in the area. You may be lucky like we were and catch some great music too.

Honestly this was one of the most weirdest restaurant experiences I’ve had… they have dolls… creepy dolls in fact… and they are everywhere… even hung upside down on the ceiling. The décor… outdated to say the least… worse than my grandmothers house. I really don’t see what people see in this place it should be recommended for like gordon ramseys kitchen nightmares haha scissors in my soup?! thats just weird not cool. idk why people are liking this idea… if you can’t eat french onion soup with a spoon you should just eat at home. and about this soup… they don’t even brown the cheese… it just looks like a big blop of elmers glue on top. i would give the food like a 3 of 10… tasteless and boring but doesn’t kill you. however the staff is very friendly, one star for the staff! everything else is 0 stars!

You would do Grandma proud by visiting D&R Depot Restaurant. There were lots of older couples dining here. D&R Depot restaurant is a cute restaurant in apparently a former train depot. There’s a raised model train in one of the main dining areas. The train ran about once an hour or so, which was enough to be amusing but not so much to be irritating. D&R was busy on the day of my visit. I was in town to see the Jello Museum(a cultural highlight of the region), and thought I’d stop in for a bite because it was convenient. Though they were busy, I was promptly greeted by the host. The host was, I imagine, the owner of the restaurant, because she seemed to know all of the customers and she made time to come to my table to see if I was pleased with my meal. For my meal, I order chicken pot pie, which was labeled as the«Conductor’s Special» and house speciality. French onion soup came before the meal. French onion soup was piping hot and served with cheese on top and a pair of scissors piercing the top of the soup. I have heard of other places using scissors in the french onion soup(to cut up the cheese, of course!), but I had never encountered this prior to D&R. I didn’t use them to cut up the cheese, and actually was not that amused by them. They were child scissors, and I was imagining the number of soups that they’ve been served in. Chicken pot pie was essentially pot pie filling served on top of a very thin, biscuit-like crust. When the pot pie arrived, the waitress took the crust off the top, and then scooped the pie filling onto the biscuit. Biscuit was obviously not baked for my particular order– I imagine that they keep the pot pie filling in a large vat in the back, and then a stack of biscuit-wafers. Pot pie filling was a very yellow gravy(similar to a canned turkey gravy), with canned carrots and peas. Chicken inside pie was a pulled/shredded chicken(which was really the only redeeming quality of the pot pie). Price for pot pie meal was about $ 11. Smaller senior portion could be had for about $ 9. I have trouble imagining that this pot pie is some sort of specialty. D&R would be better off serving the filling with a fresh biscuit, and using fresh(or even frozen) peas and carrots instead of canned. Overall, I was not too impressed. With my meal, I had a cup of coffee– which was solid. I gather that the same business owns a coffee shop down the road, so this is a good sign. Ambience, in general, left something to be desired. Because of the nature of the building, and particularly the high ceilings, the restaurant was fairly noisy. I could hear people talking in the other dining area. In addition, there was a lot of stuffed animals and other merchandise to buy. Imagine going into a Cracker Barrel restaurant and dining in the retail store with a bunch of junk. D&R would be better off taking the junk off the shelves and focusing on the food. Service was prompt. The waitress I had seemed a bit overwhelmed with tables that day. However, the host, who I assume was the owner, was helping the staff tend tables. In all, I’d rate the food at about 2.5, and the service at about 4. I might eat here again if I were in town– but I certainly would not go out of my way, especially since one of their«house speciality» was so unremarkable.

Gosh, I hate to remove one star, but here goes. The service is friendly and quite adequate, although all the servers are women wearing floor-length black skirts that made my guest question if they were of some sort of religious cult. Very out of date and uncharming, even if the place is historic. They were not in costume, just wearing a long, black skirt with black sneakers, tsk tsk. Maybe the«charm» wore off on my second visit. The food was meh. Old fashioned high-fat-and-salt– content food. The bread basket had an assortment of goodies, a muffin, two rolls, two sweet rolls – all microwaved. The place was clean, the prices reasonable… just not my type of food. Thankfully for them, it appears their catering business is taking off well. And the corny music, just awful. And that horrid train on the ceiling, starting up now and then, chug chug, tacky tacky. We won’t be hurrying back.

This understated establishment is unquestionably a must stop for anyone passing through the Western New York area, or even making a special trip. I live over an hour away from the D and R Depot, but that will not stop me from visiting this gem of a restaurant located between Rochester and Buffalo. .. just because. My introduction to the establishment was coincidental as I had a business meeting in the area, and the client recommended meeting here. After that I have raved about the Depot to the extent that my work colleagues held my 30th birthday surprise celebration there a few years ago, and they caught the D and R Depot fever as well. I still try to get there whenever I can for a quality«home-cooked» meal. Frequently, I and others who have visited the D and R Depot not only eat there, they get meals or desserts to take with them. I remember one person who asked for a container of the poppyseed dressing to go. The ambiance of the Depot is very eclectic in that it is comfortable and seems somewhat«homey». As well, the food is a balance between traditional and relatively sophisticated, yet unpretentious. It’s the only place I can find relatively close that serves Chateaubriand, and it is EXCELLENT! Every meal I have ever had there has been outstanding, and I have become somewhat jaded after too many restaurants. Many selections on the menu are old favorites that were commonplace meals until households became double income, and fast service became de rigeur. Many of the Sunday and Holiday specials are old favorites like turkey with all the trimmings,. But then there are items like a bison steak for Father’s Day, and there used to be an ostrich burger on the menu. The homemade rolls and scones in the breadbasket, and the homemade desserts are exquisite. My favorite sweet is the cream puff. Wanna impress a date, gentlemen? Take your companion here. Very relaxed and friendly with big band favorites play on the sound system.

If I could give this 4.5 I would. The D&R is just the right size for a restaurant. It’s not so large that they have to rush through cooking your food, and it’s not so small that they have to charge outrageous prices. The prices are very reasonable, especially for the high quality of the food! They give you a nice basket of assorted breads and muffins to start your meal. I had the veal french, and also sampled my moms mushroom(forgot the type) ravioli. The only complaint I have is that the veal was on the tough side, and both items were a bit too salty for my taste. That being said, I ordered the soup for my side dish, and it was perfect! You could tell it was homemade with care, and in its case, not too salty.

A great place to stop and grab some homemade cooking. I loved the real whipped butter and the honey mustard poppy seed dressing. Their salads are so good especially the spinach with the eggs and the homemade croutons. Their onion soup is super delicious served with scissors so to help you navigate the cheese. Walk inn and you will be feel welcome instantly by the nice older woman who is Super sweet. Takes you back to an era of real food and gentle manners.

Driving from New York to Detroit for a work trip, we decided to stop in the area for food. We found a few places on Unilocal and drove by them… most looked not up to par with what we were looking for. So, after reading the reviews on Unilocal,we decided to drive south a few miles out of the way to check it out. From the outside, it seems pretty unassuming. Simple, country-like and right off the train tracks. As we walked in, it felt a little quiet. A few couples sitting, eating. Nothing out of the ordinary. We were all pretty tired from the driving and the trip so when the waitress greeted us, we were fully expecting a run-of-the-mill experience. That is where we would be wrong. The server had a wonderful smile on her face. She took care of us during the whole experience. I asked what they were known for and she mentioned the Chicken Pot Pie. I hadn’t had one of those in years so I gave it a shot. Before our food came out, they brought muffins, bread and butter. I don’t know if we were just hungry and tired but I grabbed a blueberry muffin and it was amazing. Next our salad came out. The poppy seed dressing was perfect. Finally, my Chicken Pot Pie came out and it was also amazing. Good pieces of tender chicken, the pie crust was crispy, buttery and very satisfying. The server even asked if we wanted it scooped out and put on a plate which we graciously accepted. It felt more like a home cooked meal than most of my home cooked meals. During the meal, a train stopped at the station.(Since it was an old railway station, i think.) It added to the experience. If you live in the vicinity, you most likely know about this place. If you’re a traveler and you need some good food. Come here.
