The iGurus

Not sure why the reviews are so poor on Unilocal,but the folks at iGurus treated me very well. I brought in a computer with a short in it caused by a water spill. They were respectful (didn’t act like I’m a stupid Apple owner), and they didn’t stop until they found the problem. I happen to be quite familiar with electronics — I have built my own computers — and I know that they could have diagnosed a number of components as the problem and charged me for the labor without me being the wiser, but they were honest with me. The problem was simply a corroded ribbon connector, and they cleaned it and got everything working for free. Try getting that at any other computer repair shop!

I had my phone fixed a month ago. New screen and battery. One month later the screen pops off (I dropped it) & battery flies out. It opened from the bottom, laying on the ground I can clearly see the screen the battery (only attached by the cord) and the body. Took it back for repair & was told that since I pushed it back together I voided the warranty. This just didn’t feel right.
Took with me on a work trip to NYC. There I found a place, they fixed it while I waited. This place told me that if the screws had been put in properly when I had it fixed the screen would have never opened from the bottom. They also said a battery does not «come out» unless it was not properly installed. This firm tapes their batteries down (I watched the entire repair). While at the other repair shop they asked if I was haing trouble with the «home» button, which I just thought the phone was going out, nope it had been installed poorly. Once again, thanks IGurus.
In short IGurus cost me some $ 140 (ish) for a fraudulent repair. They didn’t put the screws in properly, didn’t tape the battery down, installed the home button wrong and didn’t explain the warranty.
By the way, the firm in NYC was less expensive (and gave me a new camera/​mic for FREE).

My experience was super unfriendly. Spoken down to as if I’m too stupid to know any thing about repairs.

My wife’s iPhone was acting up where it would say it was fully charged, then it would drop down to about 60% after an hours use and simply turn off. Once the phone was plugged in to charge it would boot up and come back on around the 70% mark in minutes. With her being pregnant and driving by herself it was important that we get this resolved fast. Within 1 hour the technician was able to diagnose it as a bad battery and put a new one in. She has not had the issue since.
I am happy about the fast turn around time and the cost was very fair to make the phone function like new.

I would never recommend anyone to bring their Apple Products here. To sum up my experience: unprofessional, slow to complete repairs, poor communicators, impersonal, and they will not do (in my experience) what you agree upon being done.
I brought my mac book pro here August 2014. I have a mid-2010’s macbook pro that needed some upgrades for memory because of slow/​poor performance.
The first time I brought my computer in I was told to come back on another day because their computer «expert» wasn’t in. The main desk facilitator/​greeter referred to me as «ma’am» about four times talking to me like I was a fifty plus woman who knew nothing about computers (I’m in my late 20’s). He told me it was possibly my hard drive, but to come back on a specific day where he knew a computer technician would be available.
I came back in on «said day» and I was told to leave my computer here and they would look at it and tell me what it needed. When I asked about when I would get my computer back, I got a very vague basically, «we don’t know,» answer. In about three hours I got a call that they thought it needed more memory. After talking about different options, I decided that I wanted to add the max amount of memory possible to maximize my computer’s performance. In order for them to do that I was going to have to leave my computer with them for another week to wait for the parts to come in OR pay half now and schedule another time for them to complete the installation of the RAM. Never mind the fact that NO one mentioned that this is how their service worked. Because I had made plans to leave my computer with them for the day — not for the week or however long it took for memory to come in — I opted to pay half and bring my computer in when the memory was ready.
When I brought my computer home, the «technician» left all the webpages and computer specs up on my mac. I was able to see exactly how much the memory cost their store, estimated delivery, and my own computer specs. And to add further frustration, they had a webpage up that showed (for the same price) Best Buy (literally down the street) had the memory needed available and in stock at the Lawrence store. I could have frigggin bought it for them and had it fixed that day if they even bothered… Completely unprofessional and aggravating.
But on to my last experience: I bring my computer in for what I think is the last time for it’s upgrade. What was agreed upon was my computer going from 2GB to 8GB of ram. But AFTER I dropped my computer off, and AFTER they look at the part they got in the mail, they call me to say they only have 4GB to install and is that okay. At this point I’d about had it. I’d already been to their store three times — without my computer in their hands (unusable) for about two days. I was about to move in a week, and I just wanted my computer fixed. The guy on the phone agreed to taking off $ 20 bucks of my bill. (How kind since that’s what the exact cost of the upgrade to 8GB would have been?)
Do yourself a favor — go somewhere else for computer repairs.
