Specialties

Muddy Waters Studio is a small community studio that has all the things you might need to create your masterpieces in a creative and friendly atmosphere. We offer children and adult classes, individual and group private lessons, as well as a generous open studio rental program.

Class sizes are small with every student receiving individualized attention. Our instructors build the curriculum around each student’s personal interests and goals. Sign up for one of our scheduled classes. We also offer private classes, parties and Girl Scout workshops.

Open Studio Rental is available for more experienced artists looking for somewhere to work and renters have complete studio access whenever classes are not scheduled. We have a selection of midfire, durable glazes that will be fired in our electric kiln.

Muddy Waters Studio can meet your needs whether you like working on the wheel, hand building, tile making, extrusion, altering slabs, sculpting, or any combination of techniques! All skill levels welcome: from beginner to experienced and everywhere in between. Our relaxed environment is focused on having fun while building your skills.

Tierney C.

Business Owner

Tierney Cacioppo is a Kansas City native. She has had an interest in art ever since she can remember. Tierney discovered ceramics and the pottery wheel at age 15 and it quickly became her biggest passion, which has remained true ever since.

Tierney received her BFA in ceramics from the University of Kansas in 2010. She has won numerous awards throughout her career. Her sculptural vases and functional pottery have been shown in a number of galleries both locally and regionally. Her most recent work is functional porcelain pottery that plays with bright colors and bold designs.

In January of 2015, Tierney bought Muddy Waters Studio in Lawrence, fulfilling her dream of owning her own clay studio. She is a seasoned teacher and brings a wealth of local knowledge and passion for clay and to the patrons of Muddy Waters Studio.
