Crandon, & Crandon

I am so pleased with the care we have received at Crandon and Crandon. From the front desk staff to the doctor to the woman who helped us pick out glasses – each person we encountered was nice and very caring. My son has special needs and they bent over backwards to help him be comfortable and complete a full exam. The front desk women spoke to him by name and he was so happy that he was addressed vs. me. It is the little things. They truly go above and beyond. I am currently switching from my current provider to move all of our family to Crandon and Crandon. (Hubby made the appointments there by mistake vs. our normal doc because we purchased glasses there the year before!) I am so glad he screwed up!

Very frustrating experience with this office. I’ve been a customer for three years, and my most recent annual visit was very disappointing. They told me the price of their contact lenses was «very competitive,» but they’re twice what they cost online. When I had 1 – 800 contacts call them, the office staff gave them the old prescription, so I received the wrong contacts. I then called the office staff to get this corrected, and they told me a different – also wrong – prescription over the phone. When I questioned them about it, they said they would have to check with the doctor and call me back. That was five hours ago. In the meantime, I found the written prescription and faxed it to 1 – 800 contacts. The office staff needs training. They also couldn’t find my name! This cost me a great deal of time. I depend on my doctor to provide accurate prescriptions.

I used to love going here for my eye needs, but since their most knowledgable and experienced employee retired, my experiences have been AWFUL! Dr. Elizabeth is always very friendly, and I feel like I’ve gotten great eye exams. The rest of the staff however need a lot of training. From the moment you walk in the door, they kill you with a fake kindness. And forget about having them try to adjust your glasses because they will just make them worse.
My last pair of glasses literally took one month to get in after I picked them out and paid for them. Of course the staff blamed the lab, and I got so many apologies I can’t keep track of them all. «I’m sorry» only goes so far…
Then the last time I went in just to get my nose pads changed, the trainee scratched my lenses. They did send them in to the lab for new lenses, but this just turned out to be a fiasco too. First the new lens was cut too big so then they sent my frames in. Then the new lenses supposedly came back from the lab scratched, so they had to send them in again. I am suspicious that they never sent them in the first place. I finally went to pick them up three weeks after this started and they don’t fit right at all. The girl trying to adjust them made them worse and I can’t even wear them at this point without getting a headache. I will end up going to Target to get them adjusted because I am never going back to this place again.

I will not be returning!
I tried Dr. Brent after a recommendation. I had moved to Lawrence and didn’t want to make the drive back out to OP. On my first visit, everyone was generally pleasant until it came time to pay. I wore my glasses to the appointment since my contacts had run out. Because of this, they charged me a $ 60 contact fitting fee. When I questioned this, the receptionist said it was required to pay this amount to get a contact prescription. I have had 2 other optometrists in Kansas, and while I was used to the «contact fitting fee» it had been $ 30 at both other Doctors.
My husband called the office to ask more about this fee, and thats when it was explained that it was actually an additional $ 40 since I had worn my glasses in, and they were fitting me as a first time contact user despite having worn contacts for 15+ years. The receptionist said if my old Dr. faxed in my previous rx info, they would refund $ 40, which I was satisfied with.
Be aware that they do not stock their own contacts and you will have to make a return visit for your contacts, and for the Doctor to check them on your eyes. I was called 3 days later and made an appointment for that day at 6:45. 3 hours later the receptionist called and said there was a cancellation and she could fit me in at 6. I took that appointment and showed up promptly at 6. When I arrived, another woman was speaking with the receptionist and was upset as she said she had been waiting 25 minutes for an appointment that she had been called to move up earlier that day. I ended up waiting 25 minutes as well for my appointment.
Dr. Brent’s first words to me were «I see you decided to go with your prior lenses despite my recommendation.» I had, because I wanted 2 week pairs vs monthly and I have been wearing the Acuve Oasys for 5 years. He then said «It appears your husband wants to save money…» to which I interjected that he did in fact, because I had lost my job.
The rest of the appointment was generally fine but due to needing repeat visits, waiting 25 minutes without apology and overcharging for contact fittings, I will not be returning.

I am very impressed with Crandon and Crandon. Everyone that works there is cheerful and more than helpful, and it makes every visit very pleasant!
First, Dr. Elizabeth actually did my exam; most places I’ve been to have a nurse or technician do the bulk of the appointment. She took photos of my retinas, which was very cool, and I’ve never had done before.
Over the course of 3 months, I trialed several contact brands, and the staff was very patient with me. I even lost one of my trial contacts (that I found the next day) and they were happy to offer to provide a replacement if I didn’t find it! When I finally purchased contacts, they easily processed my insurance and had my contacts ordered and in very quickly.
I’d highly recommend Crandon and Crandon!

For me, going to see the eye doctor in on par with going to the dentist. I just have a horrible time with having a doctor’s hands near my face, and my eyes, in particular. OK, so maybe this is just a current theme for me (having *anyone’s* hands near my person), but it is what it is and what it is, is… pure neuroses!
From start to finish, my experience at Crandon & Crandon was as good as it could possibly get for a bundle of nerves like me. The front desk staff were more than merely pleasant. Dr. Crandon (husband to the other Dr. Crandon) was a friendly guy who put me at ease, well, if not «at ease» then the closest thing you could get (until he started in with the torturous lights shining in my eyes, but there was nothing he could do to make that any less uncomfortable for me).
Getting a new pair of frames here was a fun experience. They have dozens of varieties from Prada to Ray Bans and all reasonably priced. You can take your time if you’re extremely picky (guess who?).
Today I went back to pick up my hot new peepers and the ladies who presented me with them (and made sure they fit perfectly), also fixed my D&G sunglasses with woefully wrecked hinges for *free*!
