This place may be just as good as the old pizza joint that use to be there. No, they don’t beat $ 5 pizza but they are better in the quality and not too bad on pricing. The pizza will speak for itself once you have a slice, I garunte. This pizza goes above and beyond when it comes to taste! I assume they use this garlic butter to top off their pizzas and it’s just to die for! If you want quality this is definitely the place! Parking is a pain so just get it delivered.

A Slice of History is just not worth it. There is a saying that«Pizza is a lot like sex. When it’s good, it’s really good. When it’s bad, it’s still pretty good.» This is wrong. A Slice of History has very bad pizza that has no good parts. I’m not a person who writes bad reviews. I generally feel that too many people write a review with an axe to grind because they feel personally aggrieved that a restaurant or business did or did not do something, and writing a review is a passive-aggressive vent for them to exact revenge. My perspective about writing negative reviews is that I will only do them in order to caution others to not make the same mistake that I did. Mrs. R and I decided to get take-out pizza from Slice of History on a Friday night on a whim. We’d eaten at Slice of History not long after it had opened in the Oread Hotel, and had generally good feelings about the quality of pizza they served on their then-lunch-buffet. This evening’s pizza deal was a remarkably good price — cheap pizza on a carryout only special. I used to get cheap pizza around town on carry-out specials when I couldn’t cook at home, and generally pizza is tasty enough as hot bread, sauce, and melted cheese — that trinity of flavors is usually sufficient for even the most marginal of pizzas. When I went in the door to get the pizzas, they were still processing, even though we had ordered in advance and given plenty of time for them to cook. No big deal, delays happen. But, a strike against the kitchen came while I was standing around waiting: Someone from the hotel came in and inquired about a pizza order that was supposed to go to a banquet hall upstairs(this was homecoming weekend). The order was for something like 12 pizzas, and they were supposed to be there at 7.00. It was 6.47, and none of the pizzas had gone into the oven. While I was watching our pizzas come out of the oven, two employees frantically scrambled to try to fulfill the order from upstairs, which presumably would have come in hours earlier. Even with minor delays, still got our pizza and headed home with it. It did smell good, but just like with a lot of things, smells can be deceiving. The real verdict here is that the pizzas were bland and un-good. The crust was bready, but not in a good and chewy pizza crust kind of way, but instead it was as though you took a roll of frozen bread dough, let it thaw, and pressed it into a circle so you could make a pizza out of it. It was tough. I enjoy making little pizzas out of bagels, pita bread, tortillas, and even plain toast, and any of these breads were better than this crust. And, along with the crust, the sauce and cheese were also a disappointment. I can’t even put my finger on what I did not like about the cheese, but the whole package was underwhelming. I’m typically a remorseless eating machine, and I’ll put away half of a pizza without much of a thought, and this was the first time in a long time that I put down my plate and said«I don’t want anymore» We held onto the leftovers for a couple of days and Mrs R ate a little more of it, but we ultimately threw that last of it out. We threw out pizza. I’ve never thrown out pizza in my life — it’s always been eaten within a couple of days; this was un-good pizza.

Ordered for take out, said it would take them 70 minutes for my pizza to be ready(already long). Went to get it after 70 minutes and it wasn’t ready. It took FOURTYFIVEMORE minutes of waiting at their restaurant to finally get my pizza. So unorganized.

So I really wanted to give a higher rating, but my experience was not good. We ordered pizza on a Friday night and were told we could pick it up in 30 minutes. Hungry and ready for the pizza, we arrived in the quoted time frame… and our pizza was not ready. 10 minute wait later, we are heading home with our delicious-smelling pizza. I was willing to forgive the slight wait, since the pizza smelled divine. I was in fora disappointment. Even though the pizza was fresh out of the oven, the crust on the pepperoni, the mushroom and the Crimson and Blue(BBQ chicken) was very tough. Like, can’t get through it, though. Very disappointing, since it was brushed with butter and herbs – could have been delicious, but the texture ruined it. Other than the crust, the cheese and topping ratio for the large pizzas was fine and the Crimson and Blue’s BBQ sauce was a sweet glaze(instead of the standard BBQ sauce) – I liked this, my dining companions, not as much. There was a small silver lining – the pepperoni pizza we got had cream cheese, in addition to the red sauce and mozzarella – we did not order this, but it was an epiphany – super yummy!

I would not recommend ordering here if you are wanting delivery. I placed my order, got the confirmation email, but it never came. I called the store after waiting for two hours but no one answered. Tonight, I ordered my food an hour and 20 minutes ago and it’s still not here. I live a block(literally, a block) away and feel it shouldn’t take that long for simple pizza delivery. Probably will not order from here again. Update: After calling the store a second time and being told my order«was on its way» a second time, I just received food an hour and 40 minutes after ordering online. But my order is completely wrong. I ordered a large cheese pizza and garlic bread, I received a large sausage and cheese bread. Anyway, that’s besides the point. This place has no clue how to operate. Do not order from here.

Had dinner here tonight and it was very disappointing. I guess tonight was their first night reopening the restaurant. Yes, they were disorganized which is understandable for the first night but serving lackluster pizza and responding rudely to the customers is not. I guess they do not think they need to try too hard given that they serve primarily college students. Shame on them.

Very cheap pizza. Only $ 5 with student ID is a very good price. All information is provided in the Alicia’s review: Personally, I like the thin crust pizza and the taste is good even though it is not great. Even though the salad bar does not have a lot of variety, the things they provided are good for me: spinach, boiled egg, bacon bit, and others. Compared to other pizza buffets I went, this place has much better food and cheaper price. With this price, I give them four stars!

Stopped in to give it a try. First thing we noticed was the lack of people, especially at dinner time. Other than the two employees, there wasn’t a single soul around. In their defense, it was spring break. The next thing we noticed was the lack of a menu. We finally found a wrinkled carry out menu at the register. Found a pizza that sounded great, but no luck. «We can’t make that anymore». We got this same response on the next three orders too. I guess they are in the process of coming up with a new menu but in the mean time, abandoned the current one. We finally gave up and went somewhere else. If the employees had been the least bit helpful we may have been able to come up with something. instead, he just seemed annoyed that we were ordering. I’ll give it another try, but for now… one star.

How is a new place this dirty? Decent Pizza if you like crispy only.

Cheap and convenient, and tasty enough! Nice stone tables… I came for the lunchtime pizza buffet, and was not disappointed. It was cheap, especially if you have your student ID($ 4−5…I forget exactly), however, this does not include a drink. The salad bar is small, but satisfying enough for the price. There were probably 4 – 5 types of pizza out(all thin crust), and all were pretty good. The interior is nice and clean, and I have to say I liked the nice stone tables they had; somewhat discordant with the cheap buffet, but nice, nonetheless. Three stars because you can definitely get better pizza and salad elsewhere, but I do like the price.

Located in the newly erected Oread Hotel, A Slice of History has one of the greasiest slices of pizza I’ve ever had-and I’m from Chicago where thin and greasy is a staple. We got a sausage, pepperoni, and jalapeño pizza after the home opener and the place was pretty empty and they serve beer which is a big plus. The jalapenos were fresh which was a nice surprise, but they were pretty skimpy on the toppings as a whole. There were also no menus or prices-maybe because they just opened? Not sure, but you’d think they’d have that ready to go for opening weekend…

A Slice of History is the newest pizza joint in Lawrence. The place has an old diner feel to it with old black and white photographs of KU and Lawrence during the early 1900s. Though the few flat screen T.V.s they have showing ESPN negate that old ambiance. They serve oven-baked thin crust pizza by the pie or slice. During lunch, they even have a pizza and salad buffet for $ 6. You can build your own pizza and choose your own sauce: tomato, garlic oil, buffalo wing sauce, cream cheese, or BBQ sauce. SOH also serves multiple specialty pizzas like The Jayhawker, which is similar to a supreme style pizza and The Rah Rah which has chicken, onion, cheddar cheese, and BBQ sauce. One plus, is that they do serve beer, though they have a modest selection. Additionally, on Fridays and Saturdays, the place is open late until around 2:30am for all the drunk people leaving The Cave. My only caveat is that they only have thin crust pizza, which I guess is healthier, just something I’m not exactly used to. SOH doesn’t deliver but they do have carry-out available. The place is never really packed, and seems like a cool place to hang out with friends and also have some decent pizza.
