Great place. Walk in and all you see are leather and leather-making tools. Everywhere! For a small business it is absolutely clear that they have a great reputation and that they do a lot of business. I had my Harley jacket repaired, a simple ripped seam. Had it done in a day(would have done it while I waited). Very inexpensive. And every customer there seemed to really just enjoy being there.

Very quick and quality service. Had some stitches coming out of a Calvin Klein purse and he fixed it in 5 minutes for much less than other places quoted me.

GREAT leather work done on the premises here! Ron is the owner and he’s always happy to see you. Been here several times and the work is usually done while I wait. Give Ron a call for anything you need in the leather arena. He does it all for a fair price and with a friendly greeting!

I bought a gorgeous pair of suede half chaps that were custom fit to my legs– except that the left one was far too big.(I guess that’s what you get when you order them from MI and you live in MD…) So I was mildly devastated that they did not fit and scoured the internet for someplace that could fix it. I came across Outback Leather and decided to give it a try, since they make custom half chaps and are experienced with them. Ron was amazing! He was super friendly, talkative and really efficient. He measured the difference, then worked on another customer. Sometime during that, the zipper and snap were undone and suddenly he was there cutting away suede and sewing things up. He made sure it fit exactly like I wanted and charged me only $ 15. Other places quoted me at $ 50 for taking in one half chap. Overall, I am thrilled with his work and will go back every time I need leather work. And maybe next time, I’ll go to him for my custom chaps =)

I recently put a lot of time into researching and investing in some good boots and shoes that will hopefully last me for years to come. But I also needed to make sure I took proper care of them. There’s no point resoling worn-out uppers. Coincidentally, we also bought a used leather couch and managed to scuff some corners in the process of moving it, so we’d been trying to figure out what we could do about that. It all worked out nicely, because it turned out the solutions were quite similar. One of the problems with looking online for information about leather care is knowing how far to trust the sources. Mostly you find Web sites for specific products, where they tell you why other stuff doesn’t work right. Obviously. But when I asked at In Step Leather, they recommended Outback for repair and maintenance advice. Outback does all kinds of leather repair and sells some leather care products. They specialize in equestrian, which I guess is a good idea, so close to the Laurel Race Track. The shop has loads of character, and the proprietor was very helpful. He confirmed what I’d read online about leather conditioning and recommended a brand called Bickmore. Regarding the couch, he suggested conditioning the whole thing, while emphasizing the scuffed areas. After a few applications, there was significant improvement. You can still see the marks if you look for them, but some are almost completely invisible, while the worst are just slightly discolored.
