Galaxy Nails and Spa

I once loved Galaxy. I started going last year after a coworker recommended the place to me, and the first few visits, I was very happy with the results. Great designs on the behalf of some of the techs, and a wide variety of products to choose from. A couple months ago, I got a full set using the black-​colored powder instead of clear. I only trusted Galaxy to remove the black powder (since not a lot of shops I’ve been to use it, or know how to remove it well), so returned a few weeks ago to have them removed and get a new, clear gel set. When I was seated with the nail tech (male, not sure of his name), I explained to him my wishes for a new set and told him I’d like to soak off my existing set. I specifically told him this because I absolutely HATE when nail shops use a fake nail or some other inappropriate object to slide under the nail to remove it, or cut and jab and flick pieces off with some cuticle cutters or something. People do this when they’re in a rush. The nail tech said it takes long to soak; I assured him that I know it takes longer, but I prefer it that way to safely remove the set and not damage my real nails underneath. He says «Okay, I will try to take it off without cutting» and begins sanding my nails to remove the layer. After about 15 seconds of lightly, barely sanding, he gives up and returns with those evil cuticle cutters (and also using a file or butter knife-​looking thing to slide between the acrylic layer and my real nail) and starts hacking at my nails after I specifically asked NOT to do that. I sat in disbelief for a minute, letting him continue the hack job for about 3 or four nails, wincing the entire time because that sh-​t hurts. Lo and behold, he cuts under my real nail with the clippers, and my finger begins to bleed. At this point I am LIVID because he blatantly ignored my request to soak off, and instead decided to go Jason Voorhees on my poor nails, and I am bleeding because of his carelessness. I mentally decided I was leaving, nails done or not, and went to the sink to wash my hands. I came back and told him «I will pay you for removing a few, but I don’t want to finish this. This is exactly why I told you that I wanted them soaked off, not picked off.» NOW all of a sudden he says «Oh if you want to soak, you can soak.» As soon as the reality of not getting my $ 50 hit him, it seemed my wishes for a simple soak were now possible. TOO late. Then he tells the other techs and they all start chiming in, «it’s okay you can soak!» Really? Why couldn’t I have just done that in the first place without being cut first? I would’ve been fine if they had even sat me on the side to soak my nails, because I realize it does take longer and I wouldn’t have minded if they started on another customer while my nails soaked. I stayed calm and said, «no thank you, I just want to leave.» So after the woman said I didn’t have to pay anything, I left with a few nails still attached and the rest of them completely effed up from
Galaxy’s nail tech. Just so you readers know, I have NEVER walked out of a nail shop until this incident. I usually never complain about service. But this was SO frustrating and completely careless that it made me sick to think they’d get my money for an overpriced, rushed nail job. I took my business to Paradise Nails (Route 197) and they fixed Galaxy’s mistakes beautifully ! I will be returning to Paradise. Save yourself the headache of people deliberately not listening to you, and head elsewhere.

Returned today after calling in an appt for Gel Mani/​Pedi with Tommy (wasn’t satisfied with service from a different tech). He did another great job and was very meticulous with everything. I wish I lived closer so I could frequent here more but luckily i’m in and out of that area so I will def be back specifically for Tommy!

Unfortunately, Horrible experience. I went on a Saturday after
total was over $ 90 not including any tips for my two technicians, for colored acrylic and a pedicure .My nail technician was snappy and the technician beside her was so rude. She didn’t even want my technician to share the acrylic powders with her! .I will never step foot in this place again. the customer service is just not up to Parr aligned with the prices .on top of all of this. I saw a bug …:(

I have never been to a better nail spa. The staff are friendly! They speak to you, the customer, rather than to each other. They weren’t push about doing anything extra. I love this place and will definitely be coming back.

This is my go to nail salon hands down! Always great service and very hygienic. Luis & Kristen never disappoint. Worth the drive and the money.

As a NYC transplant, this place is terrible terrible terrible. There’s a nice ambiance within the establishment but that’s about it. I’m very particular about how my nails look and I’ve left this place TWICE extremely disappointed. The polish job I received was a nightmare, the pedicurist CUT ME and expected a tip and my real nail nails were filed down to the point they burned when the acrylic was being put on. I have yet to fin d a nail salon in the DMV area that does nails well. Any suggestions?

They’ve always done a great job! Love this place. :) The owners are wonderful. Some of the other staff can work on being more professional regarding their demeanor and how they respond when receiving tips. (remember tips need to be earned.)

Every time I go I make sure I see Jason. I am super picky about my nails and have been to many places and have never found anyone who did my nails and I was 100% happy when I left… until now! He always takes the time to listen and give me exactly what I want. Last time I went I found an acrylic color that I loved and he matched the color for me! My nails always last and grow out beautifully with no lifting or chipping or any issues. And my acrylics last me about a month which is great because the colored ones are a little more costly. Overall experience is always great!

Clean, friendly staff, very satisfied with my mani/​pedi. They have the best massage chairs around. Parts of the massage felt like a person was giving it instead of a mechanical device.

So I went to this spot upon recommendation from a few ladies, the rush job I received was unbelievable. I received a full set & pedicure in less than an hour. I tried to be polite & tell the girl I was picky. I forgot to mention 3 different people did my pedicure & I still ended up sitting in the chair to get my nails done & my feet had yet to be polished. The young lady tried to up sell me with gel, I told her no 4 times. So she started my nails, slapped the acrylic on, went over them with the drill two little swipes & told me to go wash my hands, so I said are you going to buff them, do I get cuticle oil ??? She said yes in a minute, when I came back she was apply someone’s eyelashes. She quickly polished my nails, I showed her that there was still acrylic that needed to be filed off on the underside of my nails, she said it will come off when you wash your hands. I just paid & left, when I got home I called & the manager told me to come back @ 8, I did. She tells me to sit behind her & she proceeds to go back & forth between me & the lady she was currently doing. I just walked out, worse customer service ever !!!

I really want to like this place mainly because it is so difficult to find a good nail tech. This is my 4^th time and unfortunately I won’t be back for the following reason:
After I paid and wanted to leave a $ 10 tip the young lady told me only $ 8 would go to the techs. Why didn’t she tell me that up front?
They only use one stick when waxing which is just unhygienic and nasty for all the reasons you can google to find out. The wax pots are old covered in aluminum foil and look like they’ve never been changed. The private wax room is not clean at all. Supplies are everywhere and when you lay down they don’t change paper…
Linda is excellent at doing nails… period. My issue again is that the don’t clean the stations and there has always been residue from someone else’s nails when I sit down. Today I literally tried not to touch the nail table because there was residue. I just wanted a Clorox wipe ans to have my way…
When you go to wash hands there is this extra watered down soap and it’s annoying and telling that they paying enough attention to cleanliness.
I’m pretty upset I can’t come back because of the lack of cleanliness but my health is just not worth the risk…

I’m starting to distrust my friends advice on what places to go to for a good pedicure. She suggested one before and it was a no go. I get my pedicure often and have been to several trying to find the right one. The work itself is fine it’s everything else when it comes to this salon. It didn’t take to long to get in a chair, and it was slightly packed.
The women who started my feet, I asked her about their packages but our understanding was a bit off but I went for the deluxe. I see now it’s bot much difference plus I don’t think she gave me the dull treatment as the woman next to me got the same thing and when it came down to the mask got more. Fine no big deal until I sat in the chair extremely long because the woman was on her phone talking to her husband. And she may not have forgotten but she sure didn’t hurry back. After she painted my nails and I tell her design which she knew before hand. Then she says oh and someone else will design for me. And they ask me to wait until the woman who happened to be soing my friend was done. Which was 45 min but then another woman decides to come over and do a rush job.
Talk about mad much she didn’t really care what I wanted I said abstract but she just went and grabbed colors then slapped them on… yes I said slapped because she dis. I then stopped her and said that orange does not look good over the blue I had. She painted over that spot with white. She started the design. And honestly I’d say it came out good. Its not ugly and that’s not what I don’t like about this place. Its the attitude of the person doing my feet the long wait and the comments she made… we all know when someone is generally speaking about you. I told her I hate pink and she still puts pink on me. Then on one of my toes I completely asked her to take it off I felt bad, she then spread glitter and I again asked for it to be taken off and she did so without complaint.
This place is not for me. There’s just a certain level I expect especially when I’m paying for deluxe and I feel I did not get that. The work itself was done nicely can’t say I hate my toes. I just don’t like the vibe or the fact she sloppily would try and paint my nails. I say, give it a try, they seem like they do good work you just have to get the right one.

Today I returned to Galaxy Nails and Spa for the 2^nd time in a months time. I moved out of the area about 6 months ago and told the store owner I would not return due to the distance to my new place, however after several visits to various places I decided to take the trip back to this nail shop. Out of the 30+ visits I have had to this salon since it’s opening I have only had 1 incident that caused me to become upset and that was related to eyebrow waxing. I’ll never let them wax my eyebrows again, but I will always count on them for perfect nails!

I went to Galaxy nails due to it’s convenience because I am still searching for a nail salon that makes me want to go back over and over again. This is not one of those places. For starters the nail techs aren’t that friendly. The décor is ok and one thing I didn’t like is that the eyebrow chair is in the front of the store so there isn’t much privacy and you are sitting in an upright chair versus laying back which I’m not too fond of. Kelly did my nails and she did a decent job except one of my nails broke the next day which goes to show just how «decent» her work is. Although I will give her credit because she did a good job on my eyebrows. I came back to get my nail fixed and the guy who fixed my nails seemed very annoyed but I’m happy he fixed it free of charge. Be wary of the drying station because you will sit in a pile of nail dust on the chairs and stare at dirty fish bowls. They do offer free wine to those customers who get pedis which is a plus. As a new customer I was unaware of this rule but Kelly gave me a glass anyway when I asked. Overall, this nail salon is ok. I would only probably come back here until I can find a better one with friendlier people and better job quality of nails.

Great location, decent décor, and fast. They have a variety of colors and matching gel to polish sets. They also have custom bath salts for foot massage. I usually get gel nails… however their technique dor removal is not up to par. Their acetone may be watered down and they use metal cuticle pusher to scrape the gel off. This is not ideal and I’ve never seen this done in other salons. Today I brought my own pure acetone and orange (wooden) stick… and unlike other timea when they’ve had to scrape for five minutes, the gel came right off. Other than that, i like the quality and skill. Minimal guidance… sometimes I do need to tell the person to file in one direction and not like a see-​saw so my nails dont break. But, i would recommend this location. They are consistent and polite.

A little pricey, but definitely worth it. Everyone is super super friendly and the service is great! I never had any complaints with my nails. Wine while being serviced? Sure, why not? Wait… they need better wine options, maybe red wine perhaps? The cheap extra sweet Moscato must go! Yeah, I know its a nail salon, but so what? Lol! I’m only trying to help improve this already great salon!

So I decided to come back. They’re literally 3 mins from my house so why not. Better experience this time. I guess it all depends on who does your nails. I might make this my regular place. Got a gel mani and pedi and my nails are neat and nicely shaped. I’m happier than I was last time I came here.

Bebe was the cutest ever and did a great job on my nails. She convinced me to try a gel fill in and I found out it was only her 2^nd time attempting the technique. She did a great job, was very careful about her work, and I love how others in the shop politely checked on her without making it uncomfortable.
The others in the shop were also pretty friendly and seemed to enjoy working there. I would definitely recommend this shop, and I’ll be back again.

I’m visiting Laurel, MD and my friend brought me here. He knows how picky I am about my hands and feet. Well all I can say is… Great pedicures! Reasonable prices!

I love this nail salon. So trendy and new school but with old school work ethic! They have this thing where you can get colored gel acrylic so no need for painting. It dries super fast so no drying time! I love the employees there. really friendly and most of the workers speak fluent english as well which is a plus. They have all the designs you can think of. Ombres, stick ons (like sticker polish), crystal studs to crosses to everything you see on instagram and pinterest. They do it all! At a very moderate price. They’re waxing is great too, only 8 dollars for eyebrow waxing. Also in a very good location and easy to find, across the street from the laurel mall. The guy nail tech, his name is Louis. Very artistic and talented. Love love this place! Defiantly will be returning
