Our membership is open to anyone who lives, works, attends school or regularly conducts business in Howard County. Family members who live outside of the county are also eligible to join.
History
Established in 1954.
APL Federal Credit Union was founded on April 29, 1954, by eight members with a total of $ 40 in assets. For almost 50 years, the Credit union served employees of the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab (JHU/APL).
In 2001, the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) granted APL FCU a community charter to serve everyone in Howard County, MD.
Today, we continue to serve JHU/APL staff, as well as thousands of members in the community. Although you no longer have to be affiliated with JHU/APL to join the Credit Union, we have kept the APL name in recognition of our longstanding relationship with current and retired Lab employees.
