Just realized that there were only two reviews here for one of my favorite local galleries! Figured I’d throw in my 2 cents. I stumbled into Bear and Bird when I was looking for a Diana medium format«toy» camera back in 2009. It was the only place nearby that I could find one. Once I got there, I wanted one of each item she sells in the boutique! I’ve purchased great bags there… one that looks like an x-ray of the stuff inside it, one boombox screen printed, and one that looks like a huge cassette tape. The stuff she carries is cute, kitschy, and cool all at once. I adore the selection. I have also shown a few times in her art exhibitions in the gallery. She is great with inviting the local talent to show there in assorted events throughout the year. She imposes a size limit, but that’s simply because it’s a small gallery and she wants to display as many works as she can. If you’re looking for great memorable gifts or anything Lomography(Lomo) film photography related, she has a great selection. Since I purchased the Diana, I got a book of Diana shots and a ringflash that fits my Diana and Holga cameras.

This is a great Gallery to find amazing lowbrow/Indie art featuring local artist as well as talent from abroad. I’ve come to discover tons of great artist thanks to Bear & Bird… a truly great place to start up a collection. Also, check out the Boutique, some of the most original and amazing stuff up there!

Bear and Bird Boutique + Gallery is a beautiful shopping mishmash for the odd types. Upstairs, inside Tate’s Comics, run by his wife, this lifestyle boutique is for those who love indie art, have a sense of humor, and a flair for quirky designed products. If you dig Fred Flare, Curiousity Shoppe(in San Francisco), Urban Outfitters, you’ll kinda get the feel of the place. They regularly hold accessible art exhibits here where the paintings are *gasp* affordable for us common folks. Products I love included collectable fake mustaches, Threadless shirts, Harajuku Lovers items, list goes on. For the grown up graphic novel lovers who like to have stuff that fits their lifestyle. I’d totally recommend this place for some thoughtful gifts.
