Established in 1974.

Beginning in 1974 Frank Konrath Sr. started his own business out of the back of a single truck, now more than 3 decades later and 2 generations later Service Star is sill going strong focusing on offering the best home comfort solutions to their homeowners.

BEWARE! Purchased a new, very expensive system about 5 years ago. Had PROBLEMS FROM DAY ONE! Called them out atleast 1 – 2 times each year because it continued to break down… they claimed to have fixed it ‘for good’ each time. They claim to honor their so called ‘warranty’. However, during the last warranty repair visit, they said ‘I was to blame’ for it breaking down because the filters weren’t clean enough. So they VOIDED my warranty! Unreal!

I asked Service Star to check my AC. Thought it might need a little freon. The service man was very charming and sincere. He manipulated the valves behind the compressor and then concluded my AC system had a hopeless freon leak and had to be completely replaced at a cost of $ 8,600! He made no effort at all to find the leak, took no temperatures or readings. He just said with firm conviction I would be hopelessly out of freon within a few days. $ 49 for that. Then I called Morgan Mechanical. Yes there was a leak. It was right at the valves Service Star had been manipulating the day before. The valves had been left partly open. So, yes I would have been out of freon in a few days. Other than that the system was fine. Morgan Mechanical charged the system, tested everything with thermometers and gauges, and found I was in good shape. $ 220.
Bottom line is I would not let Service Star touch my AC system again in 1,000 years.

Beware of purchasing a unit from these guys. If you do not use them to fix any problems that you have they will void your warranty. I learn it the hard way because one hot weekend my air conditioning was not working correctly so I call Service Star to have them to come out and look at my unit but they are not open on the weekend (their website claim that they have a true 24 hrs around the clock service but this is not true) so I had called someone else to come to fix the problem and that company fix the problem and now I am told by service star that I had voided my warranty because I had someone else fix the problem that I was having.

I wish I had read Unilocal before having these people come to my house. They charged me $ 900.00 for a new motor for my relatively new air conditioner. About four days later it began making a screaming sound. I called Service Star who said they would send someone out. No one showed up. Now a week later the unit completely died. I informed them I had someone in my home with medical issues and could not go an extended period of time with a very hot house. They still can’t seem to fix this on a timely basis. They are TERRIBLE. Beware of this company!

I bought a 13 SEER unit in 2008. I have Service Star tune it up in 2013 because I thought it would be a good idea and they offered a reduced fee.
All was fine and nothing special needed to be done when they came out.
When my unit stopped working this June 2014, the company said I was out of warranty because I hadn’t had Service Star come out twice a year for a service check. (No one had told me when I signed the contract that I needed to do twice a year to keep my warranty valid.)
Thinking that this didn’t sound right, I contacted Amana, the company who manufactures the unit, and Amana said that it is not required to have a twice yearly check up, and certainly it didn’t have to be by the same company who installed it – that my warranty is still good.
Do not ever give business to a company such as Service Star of Lathrop, who has a telephone clerk tell you that your warranty is voided. I had recommended the company to another person and when this happened to me, I called my friends and their contract was called off. Service Star lost two clients due to such unprofessional, dishonest representation of a warranty question. Stay away from them.

They SUCK! Stay away. Bought new system 4 years ago!
3 major repairs in last 2 years and last repair they wanted to charge me 600 dollars and motor not covered under Warranty. They said since I did not have them service unit under contract and I have been servicing it, that unit was no longer covered under warranty .
No talk about this when we bought it 4 years ago. When service man Matt came last week he said condenser motor and capacitor was Bad. I took the motor and capacitor out and brought to Standard electrical in Stockton. They bench tested both and found out only that capacitor was bad not motor. $ 40.00 fix and I put back in unit and runs great now. O ya this company is SLIM!
Will go to Bell Brothers next time!

Can I go no star. Darn. I waited 2 weeks for an appointment. 5 minutes before the end of the work day they called to tell me they will have to change my day they were not coming. the next 5 days will be over 100 degrees and I could have gotten another company to come but they waited until the end of the day. I now would not let them change the air in my tires.

Steer Clear!!! Don’t fall for their cheap air conditioning «tune up». Charges 4x what others do to recharge. Very very unhappy and now I need to find someone else to come out. I do not trust this company at all. Customer service is severely lacking.

Called these guys out for an estimate to replace a heat/​AC system. They wanted me to «sign» the estimate. On the top of the page it said Work Order?!? I don’t think so…
