Positano

This restaurant has the freshest, best tasting food around. I was local in the area for 5 days and while driving I saw the sign. It is tucked away in the back of building 2, but what a great find it was! They have many gluten free and vegan options. The customer service here was superb. I truly felt like I was treated like family here. Also their have there own baker on staff! I’m disappointed I won’t be able to go back since it was my last day in the area! But I defiantly will be returning.

This Price Chopper has the best stocked and friendliest meat department of them all! When you want to find something special, it’s here, or they will find it for you.
It’s an enormous store, so selection overall is excellent.
There are 4 other markets closer to me (2 are Price Choppers), but I come here for the meat department and their friendly attitudes.

two «so so» sandwiches (one made on the wrong type of bread even after expressing exactly what i wanted TWICE via telephone), a cookie, chips and a drink = $ 25??? no thanks.

I work near by and can run in for a sandwich or soup during lunch. You have to check out their soup, my favorite is the chicken pot pie soup. It’s delicious and perfect on cold days. Daily specials are always good too. You can even order online, so you have more time to enjoy the food during your lunch break! I haven’t gotten anything that I don’t like from there!

Andy and his team at Positanos are always friendly The food is great and the portions satisfying.
It’s a solid choice as a «go-​to» lunch spot.

It’s slow. I just want a sandwich, do it quickly so I can go.

Great sandwich place. Very friendly staff. Can be a long wait at rush hour. Great selection meats, breads and toppings. Higher prices but worth it.

Happy I work close or I would have never found this deli. I have not had a bad sandwich and all their salads are amazing. They even have samples to hold you over :)

Try their chipotle chicken sandwich with chipotle gouda cheese topped off with chipotle mayo! Every sandwich is made fresh!

Nice to be back working in a place where I can get to Positano once in a while for lunch.
Their food is very good and certainly a step above dozens of other eateries in the area. The quality is higher as well. You may pay a dollar or two more but really for the quality it is worth it.
One of my favorite is the classic chicken cutlet with fresh mozzarella, but I have had a number of their sandwiches and all are good. If you work in the are they will deliver withing a few miles which is nice when we get the whole office to order.
I do think the price and pace may put some people off, but since Wolf Rd as close to me as well, I can say not many places are going to be under the price and faster for less with this quality. It is all a balance.

Stopped here on a whim. Was pleasantly surprised by all the seating inside and there are tables outside for the rare warmer months that Albany has to offer. The place looks new, clean, and organized. They offer hot and cold sandwiches with homemade bread made with Boar’s Head meat. For the calorie conscious they offer preprepared salads, and «lighter fare» wraps. I chose to go sans carbs and ordered the antipasto salad, with the balsamic vinaigrette. They salad was standard but the dressing was amazing. My husband ordered the chicken cutlet, mozzarella hot sandwich which was exquisite! It took a little longer than I expected to get our order, and it was a little pricey $ 18 for the salad and sandwich. I would have given it 4 stars if the Italian sandwich market weren’t so competitive in Albany. Maybe I’ll change my rating with my next visit.

Food is good but the price is insane! There are loyal customers that comes here almost everyday. I ordered a sandwich bag of chip also a can of soda. Next thing you see $ 18.50 plz Wow what da!!! I understand this is home made stuff but my god, no people I will not go to subway either hahahah

Food is good here. Just don’t order off the menu for the holidays. I called the deli 1 week before Christmas eve to see how much advance notice they required for pick up on Christmas eve. They said to give them 2 days noitice. I called three days before Christmas eve and was told they couldn’t take my order, as they were backed up. When I explained what I had been told, they asked for my Ph# and said they would call back. After 3 hrs of waiting to hear back, they finally called and said no can do. They didn’t even say come in for free bowl of soup it’s on us. I wouldn’t mind but the items I was ordering are usually available off the regular everyday menu. They were running a big billboard ad on a major road here, to advertise holiday meal catering. Perhaps they got in over their heads.

Chipotle Chicken on Ciabatta. They serve Boar’s Head meats and that makes all the difference. Great quality. Ready in minutes. Loved it.

My wife and I stopped at Positano for lunch and had a delightful time. Our order was taken quickly, and received our food very promptly. They did make a mistake on my wife’s order, but remade the sandwich to correct the error (they could have just swapped out the offending item, but by making the sandwich over again shows a dedication to quality). We each had a sandwich and drink, my wife got a cup of Mac & Cheese (which she loved) and I bought a cookie for dessert (it was huge!).
While the cost was a bit steep for lunch for 2 adults, the quality of the food and pleasant atmosphere made up for it.
Would I go again? Yes, but not as an everyday (or every week) sort of thing. The prices are too high for an everyday lunch so I’ll be visiting once or twice a month for the near future.

Very good food. A little expensive for lunch but the dinner for 4 packages they have every night are quite reasonable and good.

This business has a need for some changes, which if they where fixed, it has the potential to be quite good. First off, the pricing is pretty steep. I ordered their Thanksgiving sandwich with the ciabatta bread which was tasty and I would enjoy it again but the fact that it cost almost $ 10 w/​tax and I was able to finish it easily in one sitting made it much less attractive. It came with a side of «complementary» mac salad which was so loaded with mayo I couldn’t finish the small side they gave me, frankly it was gross. I didn’t experience a bad wait. I was also one of three people ordering within 5 – 10 minutes, so it’s hard to confirm some of what other people are saying. I like to think of myself as something of a connoisseur of lunch in Latham, NY. I’ve hit all the spots and like to rotate the good ones, but due to quality deli competition (Roma, Pickles, Genoa, even Ben and Bills at PC) this one isn’t going to make the list (sorry guys). Latham has some overpriced places (Saati, two cousins now called SEA) I would place these guys in the same category with less of a niche. I’ll pay and do pay $ 7 – 10 on regular basis for a ‘sandwich only’ throughout the area. Portion wise they fell quite a bit short in comparison to similar competitors within 1 – 5 miles. Really all they need to do is increase portions or decrease their pricing I think that would solve a lot of their issues and they would see a lot more return business.

Took over 20 minutes to get a wrap. Too expensive. Food was good but not worth the wait or the price.

I’ve been there several times… and each time I immediately regret it. But let me qualify this first by saying that I am a vegetarian, I work in the immediate vicinity and there are very few options for me. Basically I go there when I’m sick of subway. Why I am giving this place 2 stars is because I feel like they nickel and dime you for everything. I usually order a veggie sandwich which is 8.95(!!!) then they charge you a dollar for a couple slices of cheese?!? And if I want something other than lettuce, tomato and olives, like artichokes, they charge .75 for each item. If the sandwich started out at say, 4.95, I wouldn’t be so annoyed. So essentially, to make it a remotely substantial sandwich that would rival the carnivorous counterparts I end up paying close to 12.00! Then on top of that I have to wait FOREVER! I think that there are definitely some flow issues that need to be resolved both behind the counter and in the front of house.
Their saving grace is that they are very nice there.

Italian-​style deli with tasty enough fare but expensive and with some management issues.
Positano’s is tucked away in a strip mall that is not facing the road, and none of the other businesses in the strip are retail establishments, so it’s very easy to overlook. They have made the additional mistake of making «Importing» the first keyword in their name, too, which is one reason we kept missing it. Look for it between the dead bowling alley and Wendy’s, there’s a light to turn in.
They have prepared foods, sandwiches hot and cold, and meat and cheese by the pound (unfortunately, the ubiquitous and mediocre at best Boar’s Head). There are limited sweets and mediocre hot coffee. The walk-​in business is for sandwiches and some of the prepared foods in bulk, although they seem to do a lot of catering to the minor corporate and business offices in the area.
The inside is pleasant, bright and modern enough, with quite a number of tables, and there are some picnic tables outside. It’s all counter service, though, so you have to wait for your food and take it over yourself. The layout needs improvement, with the all too frequent problem of drinks being well away from where you order sandwiches, and then dry sides being scattered about and the prepared sides being way too subtly featured for a quick pick-​up.
The sandwiches have been uniformly tasty, but are not much of a bargain. They’re basically almost all $ 8.79, and come without a pickle or chips or a side of any sort, and they have run on the small side in our experience. Home-​made chips are a highlight, make sure you look for them in the plain bags, away from the other chips.
The owner (I am guessing the owner) tries to do too much by himself; it’s painful watching staff standing around while customers pile up at the counter and the head guy moves between trying to clean the slicer, the register, and telling the kitchen how to make things. Orders get confused, customers mill around, and I’m certain business is lost as a result.
It’s also off-​putting to see several warning signs about the mis-​use of coupons and cautions to order pick-​up orders prior to 11 AM; these again speak to a misunderstanding of the management of the place.
It’s tempting to downgrade Positano’s to the not-​going-​to-​bother-​again two star range based on price and the angst of getting your order right, but I’ll leave them at three right now because I think they basically have the right idea and it’s the only Italian-​style deli this side of town, especially given Perecca’s sandwiches are fairly limited. Read: worth a try if you’re in the area but not a special trip, and be prepared to wait and pay more than your average sandwich is really worth. That said, if you’re interested in something a cut above the nearby Subway, this is your best bet in the immediate vicinity.
It’s possible we just haven’t hit on the truly special things they do, of course, and I’m willing to try to feel them out now and again.
