Yelper Party – 89XXXhibition Block Party

Another stunning party made possible by Misti and the wonderful sponsors!
Somehow I’m EXTREMELY late in reviewing this LOL!
I guess I did not hit submit!
Swag galore tables :) an amazing amount of swag LOL :) and I liked how they had the donation table right at the front so it was easy to do so!
It was a Misti-​eyed farewell for me to say farewell to Misti as it was the last time we saw here before she surrendered her duties as Vegas CM.
Anyway…hubby and I really loved seeing everyone and we had a few altered (to vegan) tasty treats :)
I had a super yummy mixed green salad and hubby had an Oso Ono… which we try to go get at Fresh52 on Fridays when they are at WF’s LVB :) we love them!
I thought it was super duper cool that my fav coconut water company was on hand for some nice refreshment!!!
My fav part was the Alaska brew company beer… wow…I really enjoyed that beer on that super hot night LOL! I really need to find that beer ASAP!!!

Whoa, how did I forget to review this gem?
I was really looking forward to this event, as the last event we had in the same spot on Fremont was one of my favorites. And it did not disappoint!
There were fun food trucks, some tasty adult beverages, and a whole lot to look at! Like the Mexican dancing flash mob, which I got pulled into by one of the costumed dancers. I jumped and twirled and smiled and laughed. The little kids in the flash mob were adorable.
And how about that clothing exhibition where they changed what looked like scrubs into an avant garde outfit??? I sat there and stared at them, hypnotized, for like 20 minutes. Don’t know why some of the models were feeling up the palm tree, but, hey, it’s art.
As one of the last events Misti will oversee, it was a beautiful and bittersweet goodbye. Misti has been so gracious and welcoming. I will miss her terribly.

I would give it more stars if I could but unfortunately the option is not afforded to me.
I got to meet so many friendly Unilocalers that I had never met before, see so many ‘old’ friends, and try some of my favourite eats again (I am looking at you, Oso Ono).
I am sure I saw more than one passerbyer wishing that any one of us got close enough to the white picket fence so they could reach over and snatch a nametag. Later they would triumphantly return as ‘Juan’ from 89 119 or ‘Guest’ from 89_​_​_​ (fill in your postal codes, folks!) to partake in the festivities.
I lament not being able to try any of the actual food, as I had gorged at Pop-​Up Pizza right before the block party. But what I did enjoy was …
*Oso Ono: coconut shave ice — it is what I always order and will always order, here, in Hawai’i, wherever;
*Sin City Snoballs & Snacks: not a huge fan of chocolate in my drinks, so whatever they made for me was entirely too chocolatey and not enough coconutty, but what the hell: I am the one who ordered it. It felt so hot outside though, I permitted the chocolate a conditional pardon.
*Kids in the Attic: talking with them and buying a tshirt;
*Comparsa Fiesta Morelense: turning the party dial all the way to the fucking max;
*Yellow Brick Road: Kashmir on the third street stage, even though they were not exclusive to the 89XXX Block Party, it felt that way; and
*the photo booth. Can’t forget the photo booth (although I just did). — E
Postscript. I drank a coconut water too. Vita Coco! Mobile Misting startled me every time I walked by them but an obese American Football player I am not.

There were a bunch of food carts, a painting station, a coconut water station, a photo booth station, and some other stuff too.
As per usual, a majority of the Unilocalers core was here. Teri R, Mel C, April D, Christina W, Arvin C, Nelson and Sylvia Q (who I am still dreaming of her fantastic painting BTW), Jade W, Stephanie S and lots of others. No matter what’s going on, being around these people means you WILL have a great time.
The heat was awful. Dreadingly awful… is dreadingly a word? If not, I just made it one. Actually, just realized it’s dreadFULLY awful. Oh well. Not changing what I wrote!
Some of the food was OK, some was really good. I wish I took pics but I was too busy socializing. I did like the «fried zeppolis». They have a hawaaiin (?) name, but I’m going with zeppoli’s. They were delicious, however, SO much better without the guava goo and chocolate… strange, right?
It seems despite the heat, everyone had a blast. Most of us were here til it ended. Thanks Misti for another awesome night out!

Elites had an extra hour before the others :) but was that extra hour worth it?! Hell ya!!! I was able walk away for a bit, maybe 5 – 10 mins, to relax in the A/​C at Fremont Casino while watching part of the Heat and Spurs game, it was HOT outside.
At the start of it all two lines formed one line for A to whatever and another for whatever to Z. Entry into the event went smoothly. I did notice Frances G. the Denver CM greeting those in the other line but of course I had to move with the line and didn’t get to say hi, pushy Elites behind me hehe jk. I believe the greeter in my line was also a CM, both ladies were hard at work getting everyone into the event, I applaud you both. Don’t know the actual # invited and showed up but there were at least 600 or 700 non elites wanting in. Once in, here comes this one Unilocaler already arms filled with a bunch of free goodies. Not gonna lie I have a desk full of items I’ve picked up at Unilocal events, we all do don’t lie. I should’ve grabbed one those USB cigarette lighter adaptors when I first saw them, completely wiped out.
For the eats, we were treated to various taco dishes from Taco Taco, Sauced, and Chicken Itza, some sliders and mini malasadas from Island Sushi, multiple dishes from Flying Monkey, candies from Sweet Spot, and you can’t forget those tasty cold treats from Sin City Snoballs, Oso Ono Shave Ice, and the CenturyLink booth. I found myself with others fighting the heat next to the Sin City Snoballs and Oso Ono Shave Ice trucks most of the night going back for 2nds, 3rds, and 4ths. My favorite was the creation made from a mixture of Lilikoi, condensed milk, li hing mui, and some other things at Oso Ono and there was also the Tigerblood. Beverages were provided by Back Bar USA, Nevada Beverage, and Xyience.
For the arts, there was the Paint and Party section where we tested out our painting skills, well everyone else did I just observed. You have to pay to watch me paint haha. There was a booth of people making t-​shirts. Another where people stood still while someone was dressing them with fabrics. A photo booth, donations and a raffle, and I’m sure a few more going on. I hope you picked up your 89XXXhibition guide for all the other exhibitions. Then there were those group of people dressed up in some funky customs dancing, it was pretty funny a few people started to join in including Misti.
I’ll say it. The event was a success. Thank you Misti, Unilocal crew, and vendors for another awesome Unilocal event. It was great catching up with those I haven’t seen in a while it’s been too long.

This Event turned up the heat more than Vegas could handle. Dancers galore, arts and crafts, candy, a photo booth and yummy margiritas! I couldn’t have asked for anything more.
The friends I brought were all so jealous of our Unilocal events. And they have good cause to be. They are amazing.

Not sure what else I can add that hasn’t already been mentioned before. But Misti sure knows how to go out with a bang. It’s been pretty sweet that I was able to be part of her first official Unilocal event (Popcorn Girl) and one of her last (89XXXhibition).
I wasn’t exactly sure where we were headed and what we were in for, except that we were on our way to the Fremont Street Experience. I told the Husband we were headed to a Block Party but didn’t really think Unilocal would have sectioned an area off on Fremont Street. Boy, was I wrong.
Being an Elite definitely paid off at this event! Not only were we allowed in an hour earlier before all the other Unilocalers, but there was hardly a line for anything (especially getting in). Once we were within the white fences, we decided to grab some bites. The Husband got in the short line for Taco Taco while I meandered to the back and got some eats from Flying Monkey Truck and Sauced. Of course, we didn’t miss the Oso Ono Shave Ice truck, Chicken Itza, Island Sushi and Hawaiian Grill, Sweet Spot Candy Shop (and their gummy chicken feet), and Vita Coco. Even CenturyLink was giving out free ice cream sandwiches and rocket popsicles.
I finally snagged a pair of Unilocal sunglasses, something I had totally missed out on before and was bummed about. Yay!
We spent a good part of the evening letting our creative juices flow at the Painting with Paint and Party area. This was a pretty cool part of the whole night — anyone got to be an artist and do their thing on some canvas. The people running the whole operation was super nice and efficient. We loved that part! We also took our Photobooth pic by LV Photo Party and wore it around our necks like VIPs.
Of course, a little charity is an important part of Unilocal and Children in Schools benefited from this one.
Overall, another great Unilocal event in the books! Thanks Misti for an awesome three plus years! Unilocal Las Vegas wouldn’t exist if you didn’t come along!

Just when one might wonder how CM Misti can top her many previous spectacular efforts, she does! This time we literally had an entire side block to ourselves plus a private standing bird’s eye view of well-​regarded local rockers Yellow Brick Road performing live dead ahead in front of the white picket fence that marked us as special visitors for the night. And, while we were told not to come hungry, sampling even just one of most food items available pretty much filled me up with no previous dinner. (If necessary, I planned to dine post-​party.) The food offerings were very tasty, and there were numerous fun activities in which to partake.
I found Taco Taco’s Carne Asada Taco to be quite good; Island Sushi/Zenshin’s Pork Slider to be very good and its Malasada with Guava Crème to be sweet and potentially addicting; and the hot and cold contrast of Sauced’s «Seoul Food» Taco with Braised Korean BBQ Pork topped with Sweet Chili Cucumbers to be startling in a good way. I liked the Flying Monkey Truck’s Jalapeño Fries tossed with butter and a special seasoning that had a spicy back bite with an interesting 30-​second delay, and liked the Miso Salmon on its Taco-​naut with Spicy Mayo & Unagi Sauce, but found the concoction as a whole to taste too mayonnaisey. A Red Velvet & Peach Combo Shaved Ice from Oso Ono was refreshing; the Bit-​O-​Honey and Taffy Town Taffy from the Sweet Spot Candy Shop added a sweet touch; and it was fun to watch the human mannequins of Anarchala receive several clothing changes and strike a frozen pose. It was also enlightening to learn from direct observation inside the Paint and Party drawing area that that my wife, Diane, fellow Unilocal friend Paolo D., and many other Unilocalers have real artistic talent.
Donning an oil can and hamming it up with Diane at the Photo Booth by LV Photo Party was enjoyable, and I was surprised when each of us received a vibrant 4“x6″ color photo in a nifty transparent holder soon afterward. But, besides enjoying good eats and interacting socially with old and new Unilocal friends, I personally found the dancers from Comparsa Fiesta Morelense to bring to this great event a magical touch. Besides being a big surprise, the dancers in their elaborate and colorful handmade costumes proved to be indefatigable as they performed about 20 traditional Mexican songs without a break, and were a joy to watch. When Misti and some Unilocal attendees joined in the dance, the spectacle became even cooler!
Many thanks are in order to super event organizer Misti; Bobby Y. and all other helpers; the Fremont Street Experience for providing us with a great venue; and the event’s sponsors, vendors, and performers who fed and entertained us, and collectively contributed to a great party that will be remembered for some time by those lucky enough to have attended it.

One thing about being a Unilocaler, you get invited to events like this. One thing about being an Elite Unilocaler, you get a shot at being invited for the early sneak peek. Best of all, this party was blocked off just for us. Hmm… might be why they call this a block party.
The block party for Elites started at 7 PM. We arrived around this time, waited in a line for a few minutes, and then got our obligatory name badges. It’s seems like forever since I’ve been to an Elite Event. Always a pleasure to mingle, chit, chat, and hang out with fellow Unilocal buds. This event is about bringing in together culture, food, and of course fun. A ton of freebies, quick eats from the food trucks, and some arts/​crafts. My favorite had to be the photo booth and watching other Unilocalers enjoy themselves.
Now for the highlight of the evening. Really for me, the night was all about the two Misti’s. First, you have the cooling misti stations. Because it was so damn hot, I spent most of my time in front of these stations cooling myself off. If it wasn’t for these, I’d melt. By the way, for only $ 4995 you can get one of these bad boys to take home. Then there’s the Number One Misti… Misti Yang. Another event organized by Misti and let’s face it, Misti Mama is the best. Vegas Unilocal is definitely going to miss you. We were fortunate to get some photos with the great Misti and we also got to witness her dance the night away. Message for Misti… Good luck to you and don’t be a stranger. Hope to see you around. Better yet. hope you continue to deliver a drive-​by hollerin’ near us.

Gotta give it to Misti — this party was AMAZEBALLS! How cool to have a whole block on Fremont reserved for Unilocal?Who knew that 89xxx was not something porn related, but rather a reference to your local zip code?
This event had it all: for starters, the first hour was for Elites — woot woot! Got to taste, drink and pick up swag before it got overly crowded. The invite said «light bites» but there was plenty of food to go around with 4 food trucks including Flying Monkey, & Sauced, 4 other restaurants (Chicekn Itza, Taco Taco, Island Sushi, Zenshin), plus Sweet Spot candy!
For those that were thirsty, there was an open bar (tips recommended of course) with specialty cocktails, beer and shots. Also representing were Vita Coco and Xyience Xenergy drinks, both with their drinks served ice cold! Oh, and Misti hooked the tables up with plenty of bottled water, good thinking!
It was hot! 106 degrees to be exact, but there were misting fans (I think Mel C. was going to stay in front of them all night). Oso Ono was representing (my first time — popped the cherry!), and Sin City Sno Cones was in the house too, Century link had ice cream sandwiches, and another booth had popsicles.
I picked up one of the T-​shirts because they were hella cool, and who doesn’t love to support charity? The highlights of the evening for me were the painting booth (showed my Unilocal love with my painting), the photo booth, and the Instagram photos rotating on the ceiling — Did you guys see? We’re stars! Pics from the bowling UYE and more!
My plus one (Shane N.) decided that to see a concert at Cosmo last night so I was flying solo. But I felt the love from my peeps: Edwin P. and Colleen T., Nicolette H., Terri R. & Mel C., Kevin L., Michael K. (my photo booth buddy), Nelson Q. & Sylvia Q (where have you two been?), Elizabeth B. and her hubby, Niyen I. & my newest friend Aura D. Plus so many more I didn’t really get to spend time with!

This is one of the most fun events I’ve been to in awhile Unilocal or otherwise.
I didn’t really know what to expect because due to work I haven’t really had much chance to participate in the 89XXX pictures and other things, but I loved this
The entertainment was good. There was performance art, regular art, dancing!!!(I see u misti) I got to mingle and move around interact with new people and familiar faces.
The food and drinks were on point. I’d heard of flying monkey, but had never actually eaten them and now I have to get the full menu. Taco taco and even all the smaller eateries were good. The drinks were strong, bartender was awesome. I had a great rapport with her.
There was no downside in the least. I super loved it and am glad we got to celebrate Vegas culture!!!

This was the first Unilocal event I have been able to attend. I recently moved from the Bay Area where Unilocal is king. I was so excited when I found out I got into this event. I was not sure what to expect when I first headed out for Fremont Street completely clueless as what fun was in store.
Once we arrived my plus 1 and I got our name tags and headed for the bar. We were expecting tiny little cups but we stumbled on to a full open bar with amazing drinks. We sampled one of each type of drink. My favorite was the ghost rider with the peach drink coming in last.
This event had tons of great food samples and the crowd was very well controlled. The only thing I waited in line for was my snow cone and it was well worth it!
My favorite was the photo booth because not only was it a awesome background but the people running it were so friendly and really wanted us to have the best photo possible!
Favorite food of the evening was the Saucy Taco it was delicious and once again folks running the truck were awesome .
The T-​Shirts for charity were awesome! I had to support charity and get a shirt.
It was hot out there and those fans were brutal on my hair but they were needed.
The last thing we did before the event was done was Art. We had a blast painting a canvas (made one for my daughter) We also created a cute flag for the fence lol very awesome. I can see why people do paint parties and I definitely am going to try to get some girlfriends for some painting and wine. Moms night out for sure’
Overall Awesome!!! Event with tons of good food and friendly people :)

MISTI MAMA… you sure know how to make an exit!
This block party was a stupendical event! Yes, stupendous and radical all at the same time! So glad the wifey and I was able to make it to Misti Mama’s last big shindig.
Getting in there early as an Elite was killer! Tons of free swag lying on tables along with bottles of water! I finally got a nice supply of Unilocal mints, and collected what I hope are all the Unilocal buttons. I also scored a sweet neon green tumber (thanks Century Link), a USB car charger, a fan, and some sweet Unilocal sunglasses my kid loves! Nothin’ like the freebies.
Food and drink were plentiful as well! Light bites from a bunch of places:

The taco el pastor from Taco Taco was muy bueno! Tasty topped with pineapple and cilantro. The malasadas and sliders from Island Sushi was great as well. The Tiger Blood shave ice from Oso Ono? OH SO ONO. Perfect for our toasty Las Vegas evening. I wish I could have tried more food but we were busy mingling! It was nice to see Unilocalers old and new.
If shave ice, snow cones, or free ice cream sandwiches (courtesy of Century Link and Blue Bunny) weren’t your thing, you could have refreshed yourself with an energy drink from Xyience or a box of coconut water from the folks at Vita Coco! I even managed to take a couple of these for the ride home! Yummy and hydrating.
Events were lively as well! Use the photobooth, make a painting, enjoy some artwork, even dancing was made possible! A live band as well on the Fremont Street Experience! It was a fun time.
Of course all this fun also had a message. Unilocal helps communities! I hope you peeps made the $ 10 donation for Children in Schools! Or at least bought a Unilocal exclusive shirt made by the Kids in the Attic! Gotta show love for Las Vegas! As fortunate as we are to be at a kickin’ event like this, we all need to give some back!
The Vegas heat couldn’t kill the fun we had as this block party. It’s so bittersweet that it will be Misti Mama’s last hosting event! Misti Mama… you throw the best shindigs! Your Unilocaliness will sorely be missed by all! We Unilocal you!
I will always remember you as the Mama that took a chance on a chubby Asian boy that talked WAY too much in his reviews. Thanks for believin’ I was potential Elite material!

Another great event, thanks to Misti!
We couldn’t find the exact location at first thanks to my internal Asian GPS. But I saw red Unilocal balloons an finally arrived at the right venue. Despite being 110+ degrees outside, the food, festivities and people were great. Chicken Itza, Island Sushi, Taco Taco, Sauced, Sin City Snowballs, Oso Ono, Flying Monkey, etc. were there. There were food, drinks, music, dancing, and art. Unilocal garb such as fans, pens, buttons, mints and sunglasses.
The highlights for me include: Plantation Punch (it was sooo delicious I had 3 and slept good afterwards!), el pastor taco from Taco Taco, Taco-​naut, shaved ice with condensed milk from Oso Ono (red velvet, blue Hawaiian and POG) and Jalapeño fries from Flying Monkey.
Of course, it was also nice seeing familiar faces: April, Doug, Jade, Colleen, Edwin, Mel, Anthony. And new faces: Terri, Rod… I might be forgetting a lot of names and faces right now due to the alcohol and jetlag.

HORRAYYY FOR THE LGBT SIGN! It should definitely be on the welcome table for every Unilocal event! Not only does it show support for our fabulous LGBT community, but it scares away all the crusty bigots that smell funny! YIPPIE!
The event was great, loved all the food trucks and the awesome snow cones. Not to mention some dancing! Spiderman had a blast dancing next to Misti as she paraded around with the flag (please tell me someone got a picture) This was one of the best events I’ve been too. Very organized, lots of different booths and activities to do, I’ve got some cool pictures and also painted a pretty picture :)
Very interesting art presentations too! If you can believe it, I’ve never been down on Fremont street before, so this first experience for me was a great one!
Thanks to Colleen and Edwin for taking me and Bert as their plus ones! We had a good time and can’t wait to see everyone again! Go Spidey go!

I had a fantastic time at the 89xxx party last night. First of all it was on Feemont, so you know there will be a party mood. It was awesome to see everybody’s 89xxx submissions on the screen!
I tried almost all of the food and all of it was great. I loved the salmon wonton tacos and jalapeño fried from the Flying Monkey (is that a Wizard of Oz reference?), the Korean bbq taco with cucumber from Sauced and the panuchos from Chicken Itza were my favorites. I also tried a mango with chile and limon shaved ice from Oso Ono, which was very nice, I liked how the syrup didn’t sink to the bottom and the texture was agreeable to my sensitive teeth. I didn’t have anything to drink and was kind of bummed to find out there was a tequila stand with margaritas. Paul B. from Sweet Spot Candy shop was there, he brought sme chicken feet gummies yay!
I have to give a shout out to the Comparsa Fiesta Morelense dance group; they really are troopers to dance around in 100+ heat with those outfits on.
Mad props to Misti for pulling off such a great event, did you guys check her our shaking her grove thing? This is definitely a great launching event for all the cool activities planned for next week. Can’t wait to check them out!

Lots of food vendors with tasty treats, from tacos to shave ice, there was a little bit of everything here. Plenty of drinks to be had too, from bottled water to open bar!

Island Sushi & Hawaiian Grill’s Pork Sliders with Asian Slaw weren’t bad! I enjoyed the Malasadas with Guava crème. This was pretty good! I would order these again. Pic 1 :

Flying Monkey Truck’s Salmon Wonton Tacos were great little bites, with lots of flavors going on. Yum! I really liked their Jalapeño Fries though, since their season salt made the fries, and they actually had a little spice to them. Pic 1 :

And for dessert, there were two different ice style trucks, Oso Ono and Sin City Snowballs. I finally got to try Ono, and their shave is much lighter and less icy… more slushy in seconds though with the 100 degree temps! Ono 1 :

Good food, good drinks, good fun! Hope everyone had a great time, and hopefully dropped a buck in a tip cup every once in a while: P

We’ve done a Fremont block party before which people seemed to really like. This was as good, just as fucking hot. I know, I chose to live in Vegas, but I’m a night person so I get to avoid most of this outside thing.
Good vendors all around. The very personable Sin City Snowballs guy gave me a Titos Hawaiian snow ball which was pretty tasty and not too sweet. I tried Oso Onos shave ice with mango and melona which had a really nice consistency, though maybe light on syrup for me next time. Flying Monkey has these salmon wontons which were decent and I didn’t try the jalapeño fries and the salad. Island had pork sliders and malasadas and the malsadas I thought were good. Taco Taco did shaved adobada as well as chorizo and carne asada and the adoba was one of the stars of the night. Chicken Itza did panchucos with chicken (I got a reaalllllyyy spicy burned my lips off habanero salsa on mine, and a chicken tamal with mole sauce. I am definitely heading there for some of that mole sauce tamale! Sauced had a pork BBQ cucumber taco. There was a bartender with a few cocktails and I tried the planters punch which was pretty refreshing. Sweet Spot had taffy, bit o honey, a chicken foot gummy and a orange ball. I gotta get to that store! Vita Coco was a life safer in this heat with their cold and hydrating coconut waters! There was painting, but I didn’t partake. I did enjoy the dancers who kept going and going in this heat all masked and costumed. It was basically like, the Mexican festival going Harlem shake on us to traditional music.
There was a booth for CIS and EVERYONE should have stopped by and DONATED to them as Misti requested the $ 10 suggested donation. I will CUT YOU if you didn’t do as Mama said. THINK OF THE KIDS!
Speaking of…
It was good way to end the 3 year build of Unilocal Vegas with Misti Y leaving us after this. For those who are baby Unilocalers, way back when we first joined, we had no CM at all and were just a bunch of misfits who mouthed off to each other and we UYEing it before it was officially unofficial. She came around and took this tiny crew and grew it to what it was today. At least she left us with a victory dance with the costumed dancers. Thank you, always.

We haven’t been to an Elite event in a while, but this one was a must because we wanted to hang out with Misti one last time before she leaves us in tears. Great event in DTLV. Mel, Alicia my twin, and Juice especially loved the cool zones (it was hot!), Oso Ono, and the Photo Booth. It was fabulous to meet up with our Unilocal family there, too, including Vanessa, Christina, Arvin, Elizabeth, LJ, Michael, Anthony, Kayla, Nelson, Sylvia, Teri, Reggie, Paolo, Shawn, Bobby, Regina, and Earl plus I got to meet Jade and Cathy C. finally. I snagged a t-​shirt to benefit the cause and watch Alicia and Juice get their painting on. Thanks for another fun event, Misti – you’ll be missed as our awesome CM, but we know we’ll see you around – we’d better!
