Yak’s Fitness

Fantastic place to exercise. Not dead, Not busy, and all the equipment is fantastic. The place is incredibly clean and well kept, with a very supportive environment. This is not the place to meddle around, sit on your cell phone, but the place to get your exercise, work out well, and feel great. I wish I knew about this place far sooner, and I am more than glad that I will be continuing to exercise here!

This review is So Long Overdue and well desreved. I was staying in Vegas all of July 2015
and needed a place to Train. My sister trains at 24 hour fitness which was WAY to large for me. I wanted something a bit smaller, a family, mom and pop style gym with great equipment. Yaks !! More than satisfied my needs. Im an ex football player and bodybuilder .
So I seek out good equipment and a nice training atmosphere, again Yaks
I dont train in an insane manner anymore but I still like an intense workout .
With over 25 years training in gyms all over the country and abroad. I give Yaks 5 stars ‚
as my preference .
I workout about lunch time or earlier to beat any type of crowd. The staff was kind and helpful as my sister gave me a (Groupon) for a month. I had No clue what that was? But Thanks sis. .. I cant remember the female’s name behind the counter that day? She was very helpful and made 1 call to the Owner and he approved my visit with No stress .
The gym itself and the locker rooms were very clean and well kept .
I will be moving to Vegas June 2016. I will be joining Yaks immediately once I land

They are SUPER nice people and talk to you personally about your goals/​needs. The people that sign up here are nice as well, there’s always a machine open for me, and the machines are TOP quality! I’ve been to a lot of gyms and I must say YAK’S Fitness is the best. The equipment is top notch and there is enough options between personal training, body building, and general health fitness for both the beginner to the professional without worry of intimidation. I live in Atlanta but visit YAK’s fitness when I am in Las Vegas twice a month for work. The owners are genuine and really work with their customers to find the perfect membership level that is good for the customer and there are no hidden fees to worry about. I definitely would recommend this gym to anyone.

I was in town for a week and needed someplace to work out. Yak’s Fitness let me purchase a week pass and I was very impressed with the gym overall.
It was very clean, there were a variety of people there (young, old, serious lifters and seeming newbies like me), and all of the staff were friendly. There was a lot of personal training going on too and the owners and staff are accomplished professionals so I’m sure they could help you set and meet your goals.
They have a large variety of cardio machines (treadmills with fans, stair climbers, steppers, bikes), free weights and benches, and weight machines, as well as a functional fitness room (which I was intrigued by but didn’t try out, just inconspicuously watched other people use).
The ladies locker room has a shower, there’s free Wifi, and they offer smoothies and protein shakes.
I gave it 4 stars because I’m a swimmer and I would like all gyms to have a pool (idealistic I know) but if you live in the SW part of town, you should definitely check this place out!

I am a part-​time resident of LV and it’s an absolute pleasure to go to a gym where the owners take pride in their establishment. It’s ultra clean and bright with equipment that is in excellent condition. I have just what I need to stay in shape. There’s no «attitude» and Chris, the owner, has a very cool sense of humor. I just renewed my membership.

There are a lot gyms in the southwest. Ive tested out all of them before deciding to give yaks fitness a go. A year later, I’ve signed up again. I have another membership elsewhere but at this point I’m canceling it and sticking only with yaks. Chris and Shelly probably have the cleanest gym in town. The environment is great and makes me want to workout and not feel like a chore like the other place I mentioned. As a judo and jiu jitsu practitioner, they have what I need to keep me up in my performance. Also, you can’t go wrong w free WiFi. Thx yaks fitness, keep up the good work in running a great gym.
And as far as price rates… it’s more than fair. Check it out, you get more than what you pay for!

I went to visit Yaks Fitness on Durango and met Chris the owner, what a top guy gave me a tour and then discussed memberships, was really laid back and really worked hard to accommodate me and never tried to up sell like other gyms do. I really recommend coming here it’s a great gym with a great atmosphere and the owners are really friendly and are genuinely interested in helping you reach your fitness goals

This gym is amazing caring and understanding and are great people very motivating in all ways. I don’t post often but definitely had to make a point for this place. We are visiting out of town and Chris totally welcomed us into the gym with an affordable week’s past.
The gym is clean and modern… with all working equipment. They also had good music playing, which seems to be a rarity at must gyms these day.
I would definitely be buying a membership if I lived in the area!

Overall, very solid gym. Great equipment, plenty of space, showers in a clean locker room, and even offers a cross training room. Very reasonably priced and the staff is friendly and helpful.

Many of the reviews list the amenities and the equipment available at Yak’s Fitness, so I wanted to be more specific in this review.
I mainly wanted to address the «cross training» room for those that are more into powerlifting or olympic lifting but cannot find a gym that has an adequate platform or doesn’t cost over $ 80 a month. I’m really into Olympic lifting and this room provides all of the bumper plates and squat racks you need and the floor is covered with black matting. But before you get excited, I will say that since this is a public gym with people of different fitness interests and experiences, don’t expect to be PR’ing your clean&jerks or your snatches. What I mean is you can’t necessarily drop your weights frequently to the point where it disurbs everyone else. At first I wondered, «why have bumper plates, if you can’t drop them all the time from any level?» But if you’re really serious about your olympic lifting, then you would be training at a gym focused only on those lifts, and not a general fitness gym. Let’s remember that this is a gym that pertains to people that have a lot of experience just as much as it does to people that are just now exploring their new fitness lifestyle. The gym has an overall humble and relaxed atmosphere that doesn’t seem threatening like some of the larger gyms. But with that said, this gym is fine for training your technique in the OLY lifts and you CAN drop the weights when it is necessary and within reason. You can also still go beast mode with your deadlifts and squats to your heart’s desire.
Even though I wish you could drop the weights all day/​everyday, I gave Yak’s 5 stars because the fact that it even offers this room in addition to all of the other equipment for your typical gym membership price is amazing to me. I also prefer to workout in smaller gyms so i’m not distracted and I generally hate crowds (I still don’t understand how this gym never gets too crowded for its size). It has everything you need, and nothing you don’t. The owners are passionate about their business and working out in general and are very humble and easygoing. I’ll be here for a while.

In my opinion, best gym in Las Vegas. Variety of equipment including cardio machines, weight training, TRX workouts etc. Friendly staff, great trainers, owners are always around and super awesome. Can tell the staff really cares about your fitness goals. The facility is always spotless and neat. All in all very high end gym with quality staff and clientele. Love my gym! Shellie’s smile makes the day, Chris is always friendly. Very comfortable atmosphere, very nice, beautiful and motivating people around! Very clean, not overcrowded.
I gave up free gym in Rhodes Ranch since the moment I stepped in Yak’s!

This smaller gym located in the Von’s parking lot at the front of the street on Durango and corner of Warm Springs, (next to Little Caesar’s Pizza!)
As you walk in you have a sign in desk and once in you notice the cardio equipment facing Durango, treadmills, Arc Trainers, Steppers and Step Mills, not a huge numbers but just enough to get the job done. There is also 2 spin bikes located inside the gym.
Behind the cardio equipment is Atlantis machine designed by Charles R. Poliquin. They are certainly some of the smoothest machines I have used over the years in comparison.
The gym also provides a full cable system rack, leg press, flat benches, incline benches, shoulder bench, SmithMachine, Power Rack, Tbar rows and premade EZ Bar weights.
Along with Hampton Free weights/​dumbells from 5lbs up to 120lbs.
There is another room located within the gym that is a CrossFit build out consisting of two full power racks, TRX, kettle bells, rowing machines, spin bike, battle ropes and rubber olympic weights with a rubberized flooring. Mirrors on two walls with one wall containing The Exercise Wall, which is a while separate type of body training provided by one of the personal trainers.
There is also a couple of tanning booths and of course mens/​womens lockers with showers and gym lockers. Be sure to bring your own lock. Also within the facility is a cooler with drinks, protein shakes or purchase one to be made along with a few supplements that are on the shelves.
Overall, I truly like this facility for a few reasons: 1) its a smaller type gym and not overly crowded at any time of the day; 2) it provides all the necessary items to get your workout complete, yes, it doesn’t have every piece of equipment like a few of the bigger commerical gyms; 3) the atmosphere is very relaxed and not uptight with body image and guys flexing or posing; 4) it has several TV’s along the cardio walls to keep you entertained along with XM Radio music; 5) FREE Wi-​Fi !!!; 6) its close to my house; and 7) the owners Chris & Shelly Yakimchuk make it a great place to train.
Oh, I forgot to mention, HOW CLEAN THIS GYM IS!!! I have never been in such a clean place. They are always dusting, wiping, buffing and making sure everything is in tip top order, i’m serious, I have never seen such a clean gym!
If I had to pick a negative I wish they opened at 5 am instead of 6 am but geez they need to sleep too! :-)

Friendly owners, clean and uncluttered space, variety and smells good!!! My kind of place! I’m not a fan of the big gyms and preferred to work out at home until I walked in here. Chris and Shelley are great people who are always smiling. I love that the equipment is brought in from Canada and not your typical LifeTime Fitness equipment. I love it here!

This is a great neighborhood gym in the southwest part of town at the corner of Durango and Warm Springs. Owned and operated by Chris and Shelly Yakimchuk, they are certainly one BeastMode couple. At first glance, it’s evident they’re the epitome of fitness, muscles popping out everywhere. On my first visit, they were both present and greeted me, giving me info about their gym. Hailing from Canada where they had a gym, as well, Chris told me that many of the Cirque performers use this facility: that’s nice, eh. I was staying in this part of town temporarily, so I bought a week’s pass for convenience. Both Chris («Yak») and Shelly are certified personal trainers and on each of my visits this past week, I saw at least one, if not both, of them on the floor with clients, working the front desk, or just being present and checking in.
This gym is spotless and the only time I’ve ever been to a gym (chain or not) where the employees are constantly walking around re-​racking weights or making sure equipment is in order; no missing dumb bells here. Since it is a smaller gym, they don’t have every machine that you would see at one of the larger chain gyms like machine dip, leg curl, adductor or abductor machines. But what they do have is more than enough for full-​body workouts in an intimate setting where you don’t have to walk all over the place to get to a machine or weights.
Cardio: treadmills, Stairmasters, Arc Trainers, a few Spinner bikes, and a rowing machine.
Weights: Atlantis machines and Hampton free weights that are rubber-​coated so you don’t smash your fingers when you’re using them or loading a machine.
Cross-​Training area: kettlebells, battle ropes, two squat machines, and other stuff that those CrossFit people use.
It was never very crowded here when I went so no waiting for a bench or a machine. Excellent, clean atmosphere to get your fitness on.

I have been training here for several months now and I really love this gym. It isn’t super crowded, all the machines are top of the line and well kept. The gym is kept immaculate clean. The owner Chris is the nicest guy and very knowledgable with weight training.
The environment is very friendly and comfortable. Yaks has a highly class gym feel but in a smaller more boutique venue. This place is a great workout sanctuary for people who don’t want to deal with the Mega-Gym’s.
