Sort of a cheeseball magic show in my opinion, but entertaining for the low price. Only come to this show if the tix are free or super cheap :) It would be good for kids though

Having watched Penn & Teller and David Copperfield on my previous trip, I decided to try Steve Wyrick as he was close to the MGM where I was dining that evening. The preview video on looked good. The show now has its own purpose built theatre in Planet Hollywood(formerly Aladdin’s Passage). A lovely lady at the booth sorted me out a free upgrade to a better seat at the box office. The doors opened late but there were many shops to browse in to kill time while waiting for the theatre to sort themselves out. Filling the theatre was also delayed by the obligatory Vegas photo taking for purchase at the end of the show. The theatre was about half full but there were enough people for a good atmosphere. Steve Wyrick was personable with a cheeky twinkle. Confident in his ability, he was a good showman. The show had a good mix of magic. The headlines for his act included producing a business and a helicopter on stage behind a curtain. I don’t know why people are impressed by illusions like this — the curtain removes any semblance that it’s magic for me and all the magician has to do is to grin while hydraulics manœuvre the thing into place. To me the real skill is in smaller bits of magic and in close up magic. Fortunately, there were quite a few bits of closer magic where live video feeds showed what was happening on big TV monitors. Steve Wyrick demonstrated that he does have good patter and great sleight of hand too. Best illusion was how he linked 3 rings taken from the audience by dropping them into a wine glass. Also a nice card deck control routine. He was a bit naughty though a few times. He made out that he had ‘stolen’ a watch from an audience he got up on stage but when I spoke to the audience member later, he said that it wasn’t his watch. The ending is pure theatre and pulls at the hug strings(I won’t spoil the surprise for you) though some may find it too saccharine for their tastes. Also some nice dance routines by an attractive female dance troupe. A good entertaining evening. Penn & Teller more fun, David Copperfield better flying but still fun. And Steve Wyrick comes out to have his photo taken/sign autographs etc.
