History

Established in 1958.

The first Cost Plus opened in 1958, when a San Francisco businessman parlayed his passion for travel into an import business by selling a shipload of handwoven wicker from a local pier. The furniture sold out within a few days, but the idea lived on. Now Cost Plus World Market’s store at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco is a favorite destination for tourists and locals alike.

Since its opening more than four decades ago, the Company’s product categories have expanded to include: furniture, pillows, lamps, floor and window coverings, frames, baskets, garden, collectibles, tabletop and kitchen accessories, along with gourmet foods and wines. World Market, I want all the things!!! I love browsing this store. Pretty good prices on housewares and furniture and some very cool stuff. A lot of it is a little too «Bohemian» for my taste, but I’ve scored some great buys and finds here, like table lamps, baskets, etc. Love their selection of global «treats» and different teas and sodas. If you’re decorating on a budget, you might consider looking here in addition to Ikea. If anything, it’s fun just to look around here.

Such a fun place! It’s like Pier 1 on steroids!!! It had been awhile since I ventured in there as I’m not much of a shopper. But I found myself killing time the other day when I was in the neighborhood so I decided to take a gander. From the second I walked in I instantly remembered why I fell in love with this store to begin with. You can find all kinds of fun imports. They have everything from home furnishings, candles, kitchen supplies and fun and unique food items. They even carry wine and coffee! Oh… And lots of great chocolate! Wine, coffee and chocolate are the three most important food groups after all! Great spot to pick up a few fun things to try and the prices are pretty reasonable. Great gift ideas as well and they even carry gift wrap/​bags.

Don’t go there horrible customer service! I was taking a snap to show my roommates of some possible shelving we could buy for our home and a lady very rudely came up and said I couldn’t record video. I asked her why and she could t give me an answer but was very rude about it. She made me feel like a criminal! Will never go there again and will tell everyone I know not to come here!

I really love this store. I’m lucky that it’s only 10 minutes from my work so I can swing over on my lunch break.
The variety of items offered is insane. This is the reason I end up here so often. They have gift wrap, home décor, unique foods, dishes, holiday décor, holiday foods, wine, beer, and furniture. My favorite time to shop here is before a major holiday like Easter or Christmas because they have the best holiday items. I could buy all of my stocking stuffers for Christmas at this store alone.
The World Market Explorer program is the way to go if you shop here with any frequency. For every $ 200 spent you get $ 10 in rewards. Additionally, being part of the program gets you coupons and I would say there is an active coupon most times. Coupons are also issued for your birthday through the program. Large furniture purchases count towards the reward program which made my kitchen table purchase an even better deal.
The only negative I can think of is that sometimes the cash register line is slow moving at lunch time. For awhile I stopped coming because the line was consistently slow on several visits, but my last two visits were quick and friendly check outs.

The first thing that comes to mind is how incompetent their staff was today. They argued about the the 15%off add that was posted in Better Homes and Gardens which they finally understood. One the we also had an additional 25% which they didn’t discover until after we got home. Their stock of Toroni syrup was rediculous mostly sugar free which is horrible. I wouldn’t recomend this peticular store as a choice for shopping. The service sucked so don’t waste your time. I’d give it a minus 5 stars if I could!

A unique store with allot of overpriced items. I only like shopping there during sales. They do have some unique items that when on sale are a great addition to your home.
I got some really nice pillows recently on sale. Originally they were $ 30 each but on the clearance they were $ 15 and the daughter had some awesome email coupon for a additional 30% off. That made them a great deal. They were probably worth $ 18.
They have lots of imported candy etc that can be unique gifts for that had to buy for person I your life. The wine is overpriced but they frequently have sales so that is when I grab a few bottles. My favorite is the El Toro Flaco Sangria which is delicious.
A cool place but be a savvy shopper and get the most out of this unique store.

This place is awesome, such a wide variety of amazing knick-​knacks and alcohol! We found some great things for the home. I couldn’t believe that they had Dog Fish head. Diane was very nice while checking us out. We are customers for life!

Addicting. So first off, sign up for their free club. Once you are signed up you earn rewards and they regularly send coupons. If you buy here without at least a 10% off coupon, you are robbing yourself. I was attracted to the shop because they are the only ones who carry the ginger beer and lemon lime and bitters drinks I missed from Australia. I don’t think I’ve walked out spending less than $ 50 with coupon, and we even just bought a replacement kitchen table there that is awesome when they had their furniture blowout sale (50% off all furniture). Just be warned, the place is addictive. If you look around there are always tons of things to find that you won’t need, but what you will want.

This store surprised me. It looked like a furniture store from the outside, but once you head inside it’s much more than that. They have a huge alcohol section with plenty of different types of wine choices. They also have a vast array of kitchen and home products and décor, the kind of stuff you find at a Bed Bath and Beyond and Micheal’s. We walked around and found an assortment of international groceries from around the world like the store name implies.
We spent almost a few hours inside, and came out the store with a bunch of goodies we weren’t expecting to buy. Time just flies by inside, which is good if you have some time to kill.
The best way I can describe the World Market: it’s like a Total Wine + Bed Bath + Micheals + A furniture store & rug store + International groceries, all combined into one store.

Awesome place. Good wine selection. Good unique food items. Beautiful handcrafted jewelry. The wall art was nice but overpriced. This location is nice cause u got in –n-​out, target, Ross, Petco, biglots all right next to it. I found a wine rack for my panty for $ 100. I had a 15% coupon that you get in the mail when you move. Also signed up for their rewards program in which you get money off booze.

Absolutely LOVE World Market!
Always something fun to find! They have such a spectacular variety of items! I love all the finds for the house! Their beer and wine selection is always fun to browse and find a selection to take home and sample! They always have fun specialty snacks and candy items.

Are you bored? Do you want to kill about 2 hours of your time looking at random stuff and end up walking out with things you weren’t expecting to buy? Cost Plus World is for you! I don’t remember how I heard about this place, but I remember my first time here. I spent about 2 hours just browsing. And now I’m a fan and still spend a good amount of time here during each visit.
This store has so much stuff. They have, picture frames, jewelry, furniture, food kitchen stuff and so much more! Everything is so colorful that my attention span is really short. I’ll look at something and another thing will catch my eye and I’ll completely forget what I was looking at in the first place. My favorite sections in the whole store are the food and the kitchenware. There are so many different snacks to choose from, like vegetable chips to chocolate covered waffles. And I love looking at the candy and spices from all around the world. It’s a bit pricier, but you’ll find some unique items if you look hard enough. On my last visit, I found a bunch of different flavored Kit Kat. I also love looking at all the mini kitchen stuff! Mini measuring cups, mini whisks, mini bowls… LOVE ALL THE MINIS!!! All the employees are so nice, calm and helpful. Anyway, awesome place to shop and find what you’re looking for or maybe just stumble across something awesome!

I’ve been a big fan of CPWM for several years. They just have random awesomeness. One such discovery I made a few years ago is that they carry Tim Tams, Violet Crumble, and Maltesers. They aren’t actually branded Tim Tams, but rather they are marked generically as Arnott’s. (Arnott’s is the Aussie company that makes Tim Tams.)
Upon visiting CPWM today, now I found out that they also carry Bundaberg Ginger Beer. I only discovered Bundaberg on my recent trip to Australia. My cousin actually works for them.
So CPWM has solidified itself as the go-​to spot for random Aussie products you may or may not love. All they need to do now is bring over Toobs and Chicken Twisties and I’ll be set.

Fabulous place to shop for a wide variety of items. I have purchased everything from dog toys and gourmet coffee to fashion hats and patio furniture. It has happened on occasion, but I rarely leave this store empty handed. Did I mention the chocolate? By all means, get the chocolate!
I highly recommend stopping by World Market if you are in the area. They carry items you didn’t even know you needed but have to own. Truly, I’m not a big «shopper.» I haven’t been to the mall for years and I generally just run into a place to grab a needed item and then get out as quickly as possible. I don’t know what it is about CPWM but I want to wonder around this place for hours and walk out with one of everything in the store. It’s so eclectic.

I love shopping at this store; I always find so many cool things here. I come here for the German chocolate and because my boyfriend used to live in Germany as a child, I like to surprise him with the chocolate. I also like the beer selection. I’d been looking for a certain brand of beer that I’d only seen on tap at a local casino. Well, I was here one night doing some Christmas shopping and there it was, the beer that I’d been looking for, all the way on the bottom shelf. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I wanted to buy two or three of the six-​pack but there was only one six-​pack left… ugh! It’s better than nothing I guess!
