The Whisky Attic

Found this Whisky experience doing an online search and wanted something more than a «try these drinks and then buy a bunch from me.» The key here is education and they are not selling you product; you can’t buy anything. So it’s all about learning — a great history of whisky (and other spirits as well), fun facts and their specific tasting method.
Went with my dad and we had an absolute blast. It was informative, fun, funny and we got to taste some exotic/​rare (to me anyway) whisky, some of which I’ll be seeking out for my personal stash. I would definitely do this again and highly recommend it. Thanks JD!

A unique and fun experience off (but near) the strip. I’m recent bourbon lover since vising the Bourbon Trail this year. I wanted to go to the Whisky Attic to widen my palate and learn more about whisky. Whiskey Attic did not disappoint. This place has an astounding selection and JD provided an very educational experience! I’ll definitely be bringing my whisky-​loving friends here next time they visit!

5 whiskey tasting for the wife’s birthday. It was really phenomenal. JD was our whiskey guide, he started with a run down of different countries and types of whiskey, then talked about how to taste, and then asked us a few questions about our taste preferences to guide the whiskey selection. It was very informal but incredibly informative. JD is very knowledgable, friendly and entertaining. We talked about enough different things during the first two parts that he accurately guessed my answers to the tasting preference questions, which was impressive. The whiskey selections included a few I probably never would have tried but really enjoyed. Overall it was an amazing night. Will be recommending this to friends. Most importantly, I feel that regardless of your level of knowledge, the fact that he can nail your taste preferences so well makes this a must try for anyone, if for no other reason than to sample from such a huge selection of whisky/​whiskey. Also, the tasting method is very different than what’s taught in the bourbon trail tours, and I actually prefer it to the traditional method. If you’re willing to give it a shot, it really works well.

The Whisky Attic is a must visit when coming to Vegas. It opened my eyes to a new way of enjoying alcohol. Rory was a wonderful host and made us feel at home. JD dropped whisky knowledge like he invented it. He knew so much and made the learning experience interactive and fun. One of my boys and I had the 10 whisky tasting, while the others had the 5. Well worth the visit! I have already recommend this place to many others.

Very unique and educational experience. These folks know their spirits, and do a wonderful job of introducing a novel tasting method that works well in differentiating flavor profiles of whiskey. I am much more proficient in wine tasting but the usual method used for wine is not as effective with whiskey. I can say that the tasting method discussed at the Whisky Attic works, and works quite well! Also, this is just a straight-​up fun time! Highly recommended!

Came here for a great whisky tasting for my bachelor party, and learned a ton! They take the time to thoroughly explain and walk you through the tasting experience. Would definitely recommend this to any whisky lovers or bachelor parties out there!

One of the most over priced places I’ve ever been. Some of the products tasted different than I know them. I don’t trust the inventory is accurate. Poor service and cheap surroundings, not a fan obviously, will look else where for better beverages

Worst «whiskey tasting» I ever had. The class was rambling nonsense by some guy named «JD» about taste blah blah blah. We got poured a bunch of liquers and bottom shelf whiskies. I have tasted probably every expensive bourbon out there outside of early BTAC and unobtainable stuff like AH Hirsche, Eagle Rare 101 etc so I know how to properly taste whiskey and take notes. His tasting class was off basis and caterers towards the extremely inexperienced and is just wrong on certain points and also a complete ripoff considering the price and what he pours for you. After that I found out that he was asking prices like $ 75 bucks a pour for the rare whiskies and up to $ 200 a pour for some others. That is just highway robbery. I suggest you skip this place entirely and put together your own tastings with friends and family.

If there is anything that should be as the ideal hidden gem within Las Vegas it is The Whisky Attic. An incredible collection of Whisky (and Whiskey) create a library of bottles awaiting to be experienced. A medieval body of armour stands guard with a halbred behind the counter.
JD served as our guide during the one and a half hour journey through our whiskey tasting adventure. Using Adam Carmer’s CSTEM methodology you will imbue your tastebuds and olfactory senses to a more modern and simple way to ensure you have the best whisky experience possible.
JD’s knowledge and expert delivery of the subject matter is passionate, entertaining and addictingly educational. What’s most impressive is that he is very humble, down to earth and genuinely encourages questions which he answers with a smile. You will not feel belittled if you are new to whisk (e)y or underwhelmed if (you think) you know a lot already. In fact as other reviewers have mentioned there is every reason to go back and re-​experience The Whisky Attic again; I know I certainly will during my next visit to Sin City.
NOTE: At the time of my review The Attic was housed in the Freakin’ Frog just east of UNLV but it was mentioned that they soon plan to relocate to the west side of the Las Vegas Strip so be sure to check their website prior to making a reservation.

This was a great and fun experience. Customer service was prompt, priced reasonably and booking was easy. Adam was very understanding and accommodating. JD was attentive and knowledgeable.
I booked a tasting for a 9 person bachelor party. It was a great value and the entire group even the seasoned whiskey drinkers was able to learn something and take something away from this experienced.

The bottom line is simple. I’ve brought about a half-​dozen friends here who previously didn’t enjoy whisky at all, and every one of them has become a whisky drinker since. If you’re already a fan, you’ll be delighted with what you learn and drink; if you currently find the idea of drinking 10 glasses of straight whisky to sound awful, you will be pleasantly surprised with the experience.
When I first had a tasting, I had already been a fan and collector of scotch whisky for about 8 years. I was astonished at how much I learned here, and how much it expanded the range of whiskies that I love. Now, I’ve gone 5 times, and I’m still learning new things.
You will leave the Whisky Attic with new knowledge that allows you to enjoy any liquor much more thoroughly and consistently. The value of this experience does not just come from the quality of whiskies that you get (though you will always get a good selection), but primarily from the tasting method that you learn. It’s truly amazing.
Adam and J.D. will give you a way to enjoy whisky tasting on your own, with no outside influence, discovering what you truly prefer, no matter what your preferences are. «Good» and «bad» are words you will never hear. The experience will not force anything on you. You will not be given tasting notes. You will learn how to taste and be free to taste whatever it is that your palate discovers. It’s one of the most profoundly well-​intentioned educational experiences I’ve ever had the privilege of enjoying.
It will probably blow your mind how different are the various whiskies from one another. You will likely end up wanting to have a few bottles of your own for occasional sipping. You may decide never to use whisky as a mixer again. Of all the reviews I’ve ever written on Unilocal,this is probably the one about which I’m the most passionate. Go to the Attic. You’ll love it.

Adam is THE most knowledgeable person I know when it comes to Scotch and Whiskey.
I’ve been up here on several occasions, and have tried many Scotches that I would have never been able to find elsewhere (1986 Bowmore!)
The Attic is also where special events are held, like The Robert Burns nights! I attended last year, and had a blast.
I can’t wait to come back again. ;)

My fiancé got us reservations for the unique whisky tasting at the Whisky Attic for my birthday last August. Adam did a great job walking her through the process and ensuring her that they’d have everything she was looking to surprise me with for my birthday. JD did a great job delivering the tasting. To top off what was already a great experience, Adam’s superb knack for services shined through even further this holiday season when he went out of his way to ensure my fiancé made an educated decision on buying me a bottle of scotch for Christmas. I’ll be sure to bring any and all of my whisky drinking friends to the attic when they are in town. A+++
When doing the whisky tasting, be sure to do the 10 glass tasting as you will get the full experience. It might seem a bit pricey, but it’s well worth it!

Great place, best beer and whisky selection! I travel and know good finds and this was a score! Did the whisky tasting with 12 guys, Adam was great, 5 flights was enough!

Read about this place in Los Angeles magazine and had to check it out! My boyfriend and I both really like bourbon and the selection they have is amazing, from all over the world. We got a great education from JD and even discovered a new favorite.
The tastings are done by appointment and are not cheap — but this is top-​shelf stuff and worth it. If you are a whiskey drinker of any type (not just bourbon although that is my favorite), definitely go! We will absolutely be back!

I came here upon the recommendation of a friend who said Adam (the owner) taught him how to taste whisky. So I signed both my hubby and I to the high roller experience for whisky tasting. We were led up a attic into a room full of whisky bottles from different countries of different kinds. This was kinda cool.
JD and not Adam did the tour for us. He told a story about the history of taste, and gave us a brief history of the prohibition era. Interesting and cool story to hear. He also told us about some winery in pahrump where we could bottle our own wine with our own label which i thought was something I wanted to check out, but I couldn’t find anything of the sort on the internet that did that. But i digress.
We were given 10 whisky’s; some sweet, some peaty, some «smokey» and all different types. It was interesting and super cool to learn this new technique of tasting whisky, and it seems i got drunk after a couple of sips. My hubby who normally can tolerate his whisky had also had enough after the first round of tastings.
It was a cool experience, but I dont think i would do it again. Thanks Freaking frog and Whisky attic for a unique experience, it was very educational!

Definitely an interesting, educational experience.
If you’re trying to get wasted, then you may not want to sign up for the whiskey tasting course — and when I say course, I do mean an almost-​lecture on the history of whiskey, tasting, etc.
BUT, the experience has given me a whole new approach to tasting libations. I’ve used it for not only whiskey but also for wine as well.
I could teach you, but I’d have to charge.

Boy did I learn so much from this place. It was well worth the $ 60 we paid for the 7 pour flight Whiskey tasting class. Chad, the instructor was very knowledgeable and down to earth. Never did I feel judged for being ignorant and all my life drinking Johnny Walker Black and Blue the wrong way. If you are ever in Las Vegas, do yourself a favor and stop by. It’s like discovering new colors! Once you learn the tasting technique, you can apply it to all hard liqour. I now have a better ability to make a decision whether I like a certain alcohol or not! The room is amazing too! Can’t wait to go back!
After your tasting experience, you can head downstairs, catch one of the millions of beer they serve, and catch a live band. Just my kind of place!
