The Color Run 5K

I dont think there could be anyone who would give this less than all five stars. This was such a fantastic time. We will never forget the memories made that day!
I have been doing 5ks for years now-​mostly timed races to improve your speed each time you do them. This was my first «fun run» that I have ever done and I must say WOW! Like others have said the energy and excitement is just overflowing and there is not anyone there that isnt smiling silly happy crazy smiles. With so many people involved this was suprisingy organized like clockwork from the pick up process the days before to the finish line.
The only thing that I can kinda complain about it is this is VERY walker friendly. With that said I would say 70% of the people are casually and slowly walking. For me being a runner and wanting to attack this race even though it wasn’t timed we found ourselves dodging the «walkers» as we made our way through. As we found our way through the Orange dust a lady in front of us decided to bend down and we almost trampled her. Not smart. LOL
So next time I wont take things so seriously and enjoy every moment through. Like I said this was such a fabulous memory for me and my peeps. It will definitley be an annual event. Now for the Bubble Run the end of April!!! Woot woot!

What a fun 5k! My first ever and I couldn’t be happier about that! The color run is a 5k taking place all over the US but the one in Las Vegas is held downtown. The charity is 3 squared supporting local food banks. The gist of the run is every kilometer you are doused with a different color. It goes– Pink, Orange, Green, Yellow, then Blue. The colors are made up of a powder like substance and really stays on! Nic & I had custom Team Tipsy shirts and white shorts that said color this on the butt. Oh and can’t forget our rainbow spirit hoods! We had such an amazing time and finished in 40 minutes. I’m already excited for Color Run 2014!

I have never done anything like this in my LIFE. By far the best part is getting blasted by paint not just once but really after the third station just want MORE MORE paint! BIG MAHALOS too Terri for not only posting this event, participating, also setting up meeting spots for Unilocalers running the race, and also shout out too Susan K that help picking out the spot helping out waiting for more Unilocalers pre and after. Someone that never done any running event or if you never done one in your life. The Color Run 5K is without doubt the best way too get feet wet! It all for great charity start off there, is no time or just whatever time you want, run, walk, or Mel C (crawl way through 5K; plus still have time too stop by Burger King Lol!), everyone dresses up crazy but FUN outfits, and vibe of the whole event is wonderful! See everyone on the same page close too 10,000 covered in paint, and felt like color run woodstock. Why? No negativity. Everyone out there too have great time. enjoy life, lots of smile, and one of many great things is at the finish line have stage with Dj everyone party mode jumping up and down. They throwing free stuff in the crowd. They have countdown everyone throws package of paint in the air same time. LIterally cloud of color and like live mona lisa in front of your eyes. They have water and energy bars fuel back up once cross the line. The support from random people cheering you on during the race too the volunteers throwing the paint on you. It well organized race and one that without question plan on going too every year!!!

Fun times today at the Color Run 5K. In its second year, I missed it last year and am glad I registered for it this time around. First of all, the weather was FABULOUS for a run like this. Hardly any wind and cool at the start. This is an event that is for everyone, not just runners. Families with kids were in abundance and I would venture to say that you shouldn’t really be here to run fast. The whole point is to get splashed with color in the various Color Zones along the course, so that you end up looking like a giant Skittle. Walking is just fine and I ended up doing a run/​walk with my gal Toni. We spent most of the time just socializing and enjoying the whole atmosphere, with no pressure to care about our finishing time.
I was happy that so many of my friends came out and enjoyed the race, too, Unilocalers and non-​Yelpers alike. This is the best part about living in Vegas; it’s such a small town that you’re bound to run into people you know. I saw lots of friends today and it just made the morning even more special.
PROS:
–The Color Run is for everyone, not just runners. Just come out and enjoy yourselves.
–Great support along the course, with enthusiastic and happy volunteers who are gleefully splashing you with the colors.
–Great swag bag: t-​shirt, headband, and bag
–Great finish line, with the chance to get even more colored up at the group Color Party, where everyone can throw more color on themselves, provided in the swag bag. This way, you can choose to look like a Crayon if you want to.
CONS:
–Packet pick-​up was at the Palms Casino. Why? Parking was a hassle and what does a 5K have to do with walking through a crowded casino and Rain Nightclub? Last year’s packet pick-​up was at a local running store, which makes more sense. I hope next year’s pick-​up is more friendly for participants.
–Because of its growing popularity, there were thousands of people at the run today. And because of that, if you didn’t get in line early at the start line, you’d be waiting a long time to even get started, as in, 45 minutes to an hour. Just be forewarned for next year if you plan to do it – get in line as soon as possible if you want to start and not wait around for too long.
Overall, I’d recommend this race to everyone. Don’t miss it next year – it’s a blast!

What a really spectacular race for my first 5K! The energy and excitement was awesome! The swag was fabulous and the colored powder was, of course, the star of the show!
The run was fairly easy and close to Fremont for some ‘refreshment’ after and you can’t beat that!
It was also for a fabulous cause that I can’t wait to support again next year! If you haven’t done this, do it, it’s SO FUN!

First to review ’cause I’m cool like that! Alright so this was my first running event ever in any city and man have I been missing out. This was a good event for people like me who aren’t fast at all and glad to see that this event brought out all ages, even Mama and Papa pushing strollers like it ain’t no thang breezing through like they had chicken wangs. So it was a very chill laid back event, more about having fun than being competitive.
Place couldn’t be much better. It was at downtown LV (the cool, hippy, cultural side of LV). It started near Fremont and LV blvd and went through neighborhoods that kind of reminded me of cute little neighborhoods in Long Beach, CA. It was blasting with energy. It didn’t matter of your were first or last, everyone was having a blast. If you wanted to get really colored up, all you had to do was slow down at the color check points. The powder used is safe and edible but I’m hoping that it washes off easily because I made a foolish decision wearing new shoes.
I’ll definitely be checking out more events after this because I had so much fun with good people and the theme of this event. Other events coming up are the mud run and awesome 80’s event. Sounds so much fun! Thanks Terri for starting a UYE event for this or I would have passed it on by.
Got home, my dried up snots were blue. Pretty cool huh? Oh, never mind about me being the first to review. Mel beat me do it. Probably did it during the run when he stopped in Burger King during the race!

2013 Color Run 5K — Dubbed as the Happiest 5K on the planet
I’ll be honest with you, I was originally dreading this 5K. I am more than willing to donate my time and some money for a good cause. Some of the proceeds were going towards Three Square which is one of the reasons for entering this event. But my fear was the run itself. I haven’t jogged or ran anything in the last 20 years. I was thinking of strategies to get through this race. My first strategy was to train for it. My second strategy was to find some kids and walked with them. Then came strategy number 3, which was to come here with a stroller and walk the event while perpetrating that I’m only walking because I had a stroller w/​baby. In the last minute, one of Terri R’s. friends volunteered her time to walk with me. Strategy number 4 worked out the best for me. Thanks Alicia R. for keeping me company. Regardless of what strategy I used, I did it and if I can do it, then you can do it. If you can do it, anyone can do it.
I realized really quick that I’m in no shape to run a 5K. I know, round is a shape, but I’m talking running shape. But that wasn’t going to stop me from finishing. Every couple of blocks, you’re drenched in colored powder. This made the event fun and I was informed before the race that the powder is actually edible. However, I didn’t end the event fully covered with color. It must be my ninja skills taking over or I was so quick that the color missed me.
Overall, I had a great time at the Color Run 5K and met some great people along the way. If you’re looking to get a little exercise, meet some cool people, hang out with friends, and give back at the same time, then don’t miss this event the next time it’s around. I highly recommend events like this and it has also inspired me to find more similar runs throughout Las Vegas and California to enter.
Tips:
–Register Early: First, it’s cheaper. Second, you don’t want to be in one of those long lines before the event.
–Pick you packet up early. This year’s pick up was at the Palms (Rain). Again, you don’t want to be the one waiting in on of those long lines the day of.
–Parking: Identify the best place to park. For this event, I parked at the 4 Queens.
–Get there early. The run starts at 8:30 AM and groups are let go in waves. I was wave #4. Some people in our group started way back, almost 45 minutes after 8:30 AM start time.
–Use towels or plastic to cover your car seats. Most people are covered with powdered color. This can be damaging for your seats if not protected.
–Have fun. Don’t take it too seriously, don’t take yourself too seriously. This is not an event to reach new PR’s. It took me and Alicia R. 45 minutes to complete it. We even stopped at Burger King along the way, lol.
Never thought I would put the words happiest and 5K in the same sentence. But this Color Run 5K is definitely «The Happiest 5K on the Planet.»
