In a sea of Filipino, Japanese, and burger, and hot dog food trucks, these guys are doing something relatively different that should be recognized. I’ve seen the Spud Shots and More trailer(it’s not a formal truck) around town before, and they’ve apparently been around since the tail end of 2013. They caught my eye again at the Great American Foodie Fest in Henderson today. They do offer sliders, mahi mahi tacos, and a cheese steak sandwich, but potatoes are the bulk of their menu. I shared some Southwest Spud Shots and Bacon & Cheese Spud Shots($ 6.00 each) with some friends. Both of these are deep-fried balls of potato, bourbon bacon, and cheese served with a mild chipotle ranch. The Southwest version is distinguished by also having hatch chilies, bell peppers, and onions, and I preferred it slightly because of those additions. While you will never confuse either of these with the Cuban treats known as papas rellenas, these were still pretty good. They were all seasoned appropriately and heated through, and the chipotle ranch dip was a nice touch. If I need some potato-y goodness and I see Spud Shots and More around, I’ll be sure to check these guys out again.

I waiver between 3 and 4 stars on this food truck. There’s nothing unique about this truck in terms of the staff — how they dress, a cool thing they do, etc. And that’s something I like about some of my fav trucks — the matching jerseys, the high-fives, etc. They do get uniqueness points, though, for what they serve. The«spud shots» are definitely kinda unique. They’re like mashed potatoes with a variety of ingredients that are rolled into balls and deep fried and then served with a sauce. Think mac ‘n’ cheese bites, but potatoes. And they’re darn tasty too. A little overpriced for the number of «shots» you get. But I liked the flavor combinations. All in all, it’s unique enough of a food item that I’d seek this truck out again.
