Established in 2011.

In March of 2011 Mr. Mercer’s teacher, Sensei Miguel Hierro closed his doors to the public. In order to continue his own education, provide a space for his own classmates to study, and hopefully share this rarely taught art form with others, Mr. Mercer has opened his own studio.

Matthew Mercer, CFT

Mr. Matthew Mercer began his martial arts studies in late 1996 at the Institute of Martial Arts, under the instruction of Sensei Miguel Hierro. Under Mr. Hierro Matthew holds a black belt (1^st Dan) in Okinawan Shorin-​Ryu Karate, and a black sash in the Chinese self-​defense art of Gung Fu. Mr. Mercer also has many years of experience working with the I.M.A. youth programs, and has received fitness training certification through the International Sports Sciences Association.

Mr. Mercer feels honored to have studied these arts, and he continues to enjoy a close personal relationship with his teachers.
