Normally, I’m a film producer. I do VFX, high end commercials and corporate films etc. But than one day I got the call that my niece was getting married and would «Uncle David» help out. Well… there’s a running joke amongst producers that while we pull crews together and secure locations and permits and budgets and give good client, the reality is that we’re pretty much wedding planners. Only instead of a bride we have a director and instead of a groom, there’s a crew. Yup. everyday is a wedding and this was for family.
I live in Oakland and would be traveling to Vegas for the wedding a few days before. There was a learning curve to say the least… a little problem with term translations. I had to remember that the «talent» was in fact my niece and bride, and that the «hair and make up chick» was my Aunty, that we were forgoing «craft service» for a rehearsal dinner and that I shouldn’t refer to the guests as «extras.» One thing that did not change though, was that I needed radios for the shoot… err…wedding.

Me and my boyz looked pretty spiffy at the wedding in our suits and discrete ear pieces. The rumor mill is that there was a dignitary in attendance because of the presence of «secret service.» No one will ever really know that when we.“the agents” were whispering into our cuffs that we were actually cueing the bridal party, keeping tabs on drunk Uncles and making sure that two Auntys were never in the same room at the same time.
