History
Established in 2008.
Ben first began building guitars in 1982 with his trademark Knowlton Double-Neck Electric Bass, a unique instrument that solved the problem of having to carry and set up two basses, a fretted bass and a fretless bass, to every gig. Frequent bass changes from song to song mandated a better way to get the *right* bass sound for every tune — without stopping to change basses every time. Since then Ben has been immersed in the luthier trades across the spectrum, both in the violin world and in the acoustic/electric guitar and bass world. As a regularly performing professional upright bassist in Las Vegas, Ben built his shop around the capability to restore and maintain double basses and all the violin instruments, while also continuing to build electric fretted and fretless instruments alongside. This depth and wealth of experience both as a professional musician and craftsman trained by old-country German pipe organ builders, means your instrument is in the hands of a master.

Business Owner
Ben began performing regularly on bass in 1970, and has played extensively both live and in the studio since that time. In 1976 he apprenticed in a German pipe organ shop where he learned old-world craftsmanship from the masters. In 1981 he also joined the Guild of American Luthiers, and began building his first guitars and basses right alongside his pipe organs. Since that time, he has amassed a broad range of Luthier skills and experience, in both the violin and guitar worlds, a rare combination of experience and talents.
