This is a ¹⁰⁄₁₀ endocrinologist office FULL of good, honest, caring people. Dr. Nguyen and his whole staff are the doctors and staff of dreams. When you think of a doctor, you think of someone who cares about your health and well being, who treats you like a valued patient and not just another set of numbers. That is him.
Someone I love is trans and is on HRT under the care of Dr. Nguyen. I have been to almost every appointment with them and Dr. Nguyen and his entire staff have always been so respectful, professional and kind during this. I feel like my loved one is accepted in this office and treated with the same respect and kindness as all the other patients.
This office is extremely busy and sometimes we do have to wait a bit but it is WORTH IT. The reason is so busy is because they are the best.
I would recommend this doctor to anyone, LGBT or not, who needed an endo. Now if only I could find a primary care doctor this good!

I was told by my GP that I needed to consult an Endocrinologist. I am very picky about doctors so I didn’t go with the one she recommended because a Google search showed me reviews that I wasn’t comfortable with. After further online research, Dr. Nguyen popped up with multiple reviews and high ratings. When I initially called the office the first available appointment was about 45 days out. I took it but still asked for some recommendations from friends and his name popped up again. When I arrived at the office I was surprised at how small the waiting area is. There were maybe six chairs and then additional seating in the hallway. It’s very deceiving because once you are called back the area is very large. Dr. Nguyen had a student with him, which I suppose if you are not a fan of you can just let him know. Dr. Nguyen is very personable and takes the time to explain everything and is conservative in his treatment approach. It doesn’t hurt that he was also named one of the Top Docs in the Feb/​March Vegas Seven magazine.

Hands down the best doctor I’ve ever dealt with. I had an internal med doc that felt A1C’s ranging from 11 to 12 were OK. I was referred to Dr. Nguyen by a pharmaceutical rep that said he would take his Mom there and there was nobody better. First, Dr. N carefully looked at me, not just the a1c and the other numbers. He titrated a careful regimen and in less than a year I have come down to a pre-​diabetic A1C of 6.3, and have lost over 30lbs. He said to me, you need to live. I have and feel better than I have in years. I just took my wife there who is borderline type 2 and he was incredible with her. She is post cancer, has Kidney issues and he made every consideration with those challenges in mind. Most docs don’t do that.
Here is the best part of Dr. Nguyen, he understands pharmacology and he knows how to fine tune treatment with brilliant titration of modern diabetic treatments. The new meds for diabetes are phenomenal and he knows how to make them work. You will see him – not a nurse practitioner, and not a medical student.
Why would I drive 126 miles one way to see him? Because my diabetes control and longevity of my life is worth it. He is worth the drive, the parking, the wait, and the results.
OK, here is the problem with Dr. Nguyen. He is in very high demand. He has a small office in an older medical tower near University Hospital. Sometimes you will have to sit in the hall because there are only 4 chairs in the tiny waiting room (not his fault he didn’t build it). He is also a medical professor and has residents and students in his office so you will have your very thorough medical history taken by a student. Finally, because he is so busy you can count on an appointment scheduled about two months out. Also you may have to wait longer than expected.
If you don’t have the patience to put up with the super-​busy best diabetic doctor in the country then don’t make an appointment here. If your health and longevity with diabetes is important then by all means see Dr. Nguyen.
I would like to say something about the negative reviews about Dr. N on this site. Both are for waiting times and insurance issues. Also the only time these people use Unilocal is to bitch so take them for who they are because they don’t represent anything close to the reality of this office.

So had to do an update, my insurance changed, my insurance company said I could still go here, office said they didn’t take it and I would have to be cash pay. Fine, but no labs or anything would be covered when my insurance has no idea where I’m getting them since no office visits are being submitted. So I went for one last check up anyways because I felt horrible, felt like my thyroid was too high. Racing heart, horrible anxiety and panic attacks which I’ve never had, but my blood pressure kept dropping really low. First, he said my blood pressure was high and he only believes his own machine, even though they had to try multiple times every time just to get it to work. When I complained about the anxiety he told me to work on my deep breathing and take up yoga… seriously?!? I couldn’t stand on my feet more than a couple minutes before feeling dizzy and like I was going to pass out, but I was fine according to him. Not fine, ended up having a thyroid storm last summer I am still trying to recover from. 15 years of managing my graves disease gone, feel like I’m in a body I don’t even know anymore. Have an office now that listens to me and does not just look at lab numbers, pretty sure they saved my life considering the havok a storm causes that I’ve been told was brought on by poor management of my disease. So thank you for the yoga suggestions but not quite the answer I don’t think.

It’s been 4 months since I last reviewed this office and today I was blown away again. The staff is exceptional but how many people would know to ask the right questions and pursue it further by informing the doctor what was up when I was in for a simple injection? I’ve been to many doctors who just pump you in give you the injection and off you go. but here they utilize it for more… Exceptional. Love the whole staff and Dr Nguyen is first rate and an amazingly caring doctor. Seriously one of the best medical offices I have been to.

Found Dr. Nguyen through word of mouth. Best Endocrinologist hands down. He sincerely cares about his patients. Unlike many other doctors l’ve seen, Dr. Nguyen didn’t rush trough my appointment. HE TOOK HIS TIME, WHICH IS RARE. But most importantly, he was very knowledgeable, and made me feel very comfortable. I’m blessed to have found such a great, caring doctor. The staff is also very friendly, and helpful.

Dr. Nguyen literally saved my life!!! At the time, he was practicing in Carson City, NV. I had been to doctors around the country, with no solid diagnosis. My health was rapidly failing, and the other doctors and specialists we’re making me «comfortable» with narcotics, I was bed ridden unable to work for nearly three years. My outcome was fairly dire. A friend of mine, a nurse, had heard Dr. Nguyen speak on how critical the endocrine system is, and how thyroid issues and manifest themselves as other ailments and wrong diagnoses. He immediately found I had Hashimoto’s disease, and that my thyroid had basically stopped functioning. Within one month of aggressive treatment, my violent shaking, unbelievable pain, and numerous other symptoms began to resolve. With four months, I began reclaiming my life, regained my mobility, and my body began to repair itself. Nothing short of miraculous! I attribute this to his amazing knowledge of the human endocrine system AND his outstanding compassion and care, follow thru, and positive proactive care! I read a review complaining of overbooking, etc. On very few occasions I’ve waited a little more than ten minutes. But you know what? When I’m in the exam room with Dr. Nguyen, I have his and his staffs undivided attention. They never try to rush me thru. I continue to fly to Vegas on a regular visit for follow up visits. It’s costly in both time and money for the trip, but more than worth every penny. He follows up with me both by phone and email, addressing any and all concerns. His commitment to my health and both physical and emotional well being is something I’ve never experienced with ANY other doctor in any area of the country I’ve been. I have not found a doctor of his caliber in endocrinology in Nevada, California, Utah — anywhere. I own a successful business of 15 years, and would have had to resign my position in 2011 if I didn’t have the blessing and fortune of meeting Dr. Nguyen! After my most recent visit, and extensive consultation with him, his nursing staff then spent a significant time explaining my treatment plan until it ws clear to me and my wife. Then they pre-​emptively went to bat with my insurance company to get authorizations for medications and equipment. I rarely write reviews, but his man with his knowledge and compassion literally saved me from mistakes of others. I would have laughed a few years ago if it was suggested I travel over 500 miles for a doctor appointment. When it comes to the real deal and your health, there is no such thing as being inconvenienced if there’s a wait or missed call. We are all human, and ultimately our health care and quality of services received are in our hands. My wait to see the doctor involved an hour flight, hotel check in, ten mile drive to office, and less than 15 minute wait in waiting room. A doctor of this caliber is bound to on occassion get behind on his schedule — BECAUSE he’s spending quality time with every patient, providing the same compassionate care! I would wait any amount of time, as all I have is my health, and to have a doctor have that same priority is priceless! I have been to UCSF, the University of Utah, both great facilities. But Dr. Nguyen accomplished in my first two visits what countless doctors, hospital procedures, painful tests, harmful medications, weeks in the hospital, could never resolve. I owe this man and his staff my life, with my wife in full agreement. My only wish? That he could be cloned :) I haver personally referred over a dozen friends, clients, acquaintances to him — without fail, EVERY SINGLE person who followed through thanked me profusely! I feel bad there’s one review that isn’t good — take it for what it’s worth. In our country’s overstretched medical system, over regulation and requirements with insurance, medicare, etc, this office is golden! I could never repay or express my depth of gratitude! Thank you Dr Nguyen and staff, each of you are amazing!

I had found Dr. Nguyen by word of mouth and I have to say he was wonderful. The staff is great, friendly and caring. I have worked in the medical field for several years and as anyone knows its getting harder and harder to find great doctors. Every doctors office is busy and waiting is part of the norm. Especially if you see a doctor who specializes in one field. Everyone wants to get in. He is worth the wait. Dr. Nguyen was very thorough, kind and caring. I highly recommend this doctor.

Beware — this office seem to specialize in overbooking appointments and offer selective information for the consumer. It’s one of those offices that forget to include important details until after the damage has been done.
Unless you’re retired and have all the time in the world to spend waiting for your appointment time, camping out in the hallway instead of inside of the office space, or just love the absence of return phone calls — I wouldn’t bother.
