Interstate Contracted Movers

Referred by my neighbor, Michael, the owner came to my house for a free-​estimate and fixed the price. All packing process was smooth. The guys are polite and friendly. A neat packing result. Arrived on time both in loading/​unloading day.
The only thing I’d recommend is to confirm how many guys work for unloading if multi-​states moving to make sure enough helpers.

The only reason why I’m giving them 2 stars is because the initial part of the mood went very well. However, they did have a worker who was a real jerk. This move was from Vegas to San Diego. They had brought a truck that was almost too small to fit everything I had. Luckily, I had actually got rid of more stuff than anticipated. That jerk mover tried to tell me that not everything was going to fit so I needed to pick which furniture I was going to have to get rid of. Luckily, the head guy told him «no» and got everything to fit on the truck.
When they finally arrived to my new residence. They only had 2 men to do the unloading. One of them was the jerk guy. I found out that they actually had these 2 guys on another long distance assignment right before mine, so they were both running on 3 hours of sleep. Now, my old home had 4 bedrooms, 2 living rooms, etc., so there’s a lot of stuff to move. I couldn’t believe they had sent only those guys to do everything.
So, at first the jerk was trying to convince me not to have them put the boxes in the correct rooms, that I could do that once they unload everything. I wasn’t having that! There was a lot of attitude when I would ask them to move something, especially if it was a big item. In between them moving their boxes, they would play with my neighbor’s basketball hoop (I didn’t know my neighbors at the time). My son has a basketball hoop and I wanted to have the guys bring it around from the side of the house. The jerk refused to wait for my mother to get the key to open the gate and was trying to bring it through my house. Needless to say, it would not fit through my doorway as he’s practically taking out the sides of the frame.
Then there’s a furniture issue. In Vegas, the company took apart a lot of my furniture and promised to put it together when they unloaded. These movers did not have any tools and the jerk argued with me about putting it together stating that I «needed to understand where they are coming from and most people would not be forcing them to do this.» I told him that he needed to understand that I’m a single mother and had enough crap that I was going to have to deal with and they needed to follow through with what they said. So, instead of waiting for my mom to bring the toolbox, he was all over me to go through all my kitchen boxes and find him a butter knife. He actually did everything with a butter knife and refused to use the tools when we finally had them!!!
yes, they broke many things of mine, including my tall lamp, dish soaps that went all over other boxes, and chipped a lot of my other furnitures.
So, I would give them 1 star, but the packing process went very well and they were respectful overall in the beginning. Oh ya, the jerk said that if the company was to fire him, he could care less because he didn’t need the job and he will never do one like mine again.

I would definitely rate this company less if I could!
Just got off the phone with Michael. His so called insurance is not covering ANYTHING that is made of particle board even though they lost pieces (support pieces, shelves, hardware) and one bookcase is completely missing (that was actually WOOD). They are offering me $ 18 for a wood hornitos shelf that is rare to find and a whole $ 5.40 for a laundry sorter that costs $ 30 to replace. He claims he is working with his Claims department, but I’m not sure there is any department. He pretty much told me to screw off and good luck with having an attorney reviewing the contract and getting anything. This is the WORST moving experience ever!

BEWARE! Because of this company I am out of thousands of dollars! Not only have they destroyed our bed (which cost $ 1200), they also broke my 7-​month-​old Nordic-​track treadmill ($ 1499), but destroyed the wood floors resulting in thousands more in damage.
At the time of estimate, I was told by Mike (the owner) I would have 4 guys loading the truck. Well on the day of the move, Mike came with 3 other movers so I figured we are off to a good start. About an hour into the move I hear a large «bang». Well it turns out the large bang is Mike accidentally kicking over a heavy portion of my children’s bunk bed… breaking off a very noticeable part… Mike’s solution, just glue it (even though the crack runs right through the headboard. Soon after that, Mike decides he needs to go to another job leaving us with 3 men instead of 4.
From the estimate, Mike planned for x men and y truck to move our belongings. However, just before the move, we decided to sell off a large portion of our bigger furniture. Even though Mike was not aware of the significant reduction in furniture, the truck he provided BARELY fit what was left. In fact, they had to leave the truck’s tailgate down and strap stuff to the outside of the truck to get everything moved… Beverly Hillbilly style! I’m wondering had we not sold off the furniture (couches, credenza, patio furniture, an entire king bedroom set with a large television, etc.) how would they have moved it?
Upon unloading our belongings, the movers destroyed the wooden floors in our rental house! Because of their inability to control the refrigerator (standard size), they gauged the wooden floors in the house resulting in thousands of dollars in damage. The extent of the damage is such that the panels cannot be repaired but instead have to be replaced (3 independent estimates). Because this is a rental house, I will be responsible for fixing this damage estimated at $ 8000. The house had these floors before we moved in which means the last tenant’s movers managed to move a refrigerator into and out of the house without a mark! Mike’s company left us with $ 8000 in damage!
So mike told me that i have to file a claim. I received 7 pages, which 5 out of seven had to be notarized. After i sent all the pictures i was told that i will take 4 – 6 week. A week later i received paper work from the so called claims department that they will pay $ 105 for damages of the bed. They did not include the treadmill. As far as my floor they said they can be held liable. The icing on the cake i have to notarize this paper as well. So they want to pay $ 105 for damages, while i have spent $ 50 + $ 10 on notery.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, YOU WILL REGRET IT.

Moving freaking sucks. Can we all agree on that?
I called a bazillion moving companies for a move that was to take place the following week. Exactly two of those companies offered to send someone out for an estimate, one of which was ICM. Several of the other companies quoted me impossibly low rates, 3 – 4 week delivery estimates and accused their competitors of fraud and other deceitful tactics. I was sick of it.
Mike and Lee came out for an estimate about five days before my moving date and I could not have been happier that they did. They did describe some tactics that other moving companies do to add on fees to their estimates (e.g. staircase fees, shuttle fees, having-​to-​walk-​a-​lot fees) but did not mention any companies by name. He offered a lot of advice about researching moving companies, getting phone numbers for auto repair places for my drive, how to get moving insurance (thanks, homeowner’s insurance!) and packing. Their binding price for a sprint van was more than I intended to pay for my move, but it turned out to be worth it.
Right on time, Mike showed up with two of his guys to pick up my stuff. Unfortunately, they forgot to bring wardrobe boxes, but they packed my clothes very neatly in large boxes they had on hand, which worked fine. The two guys were very friendly, chatting with me the entire time they were wrapping and moving furniture and boxes around.
I’m pretty sure Mike hates his employee Cory, because he sent him from Nevada to Texas with the van by himself. Cory, on the other hand, had no problem with it. The delivery was scheduled for 8am on Friday, but when he called and mentioned he was getting into town early, he agreed to drop off my stuff as soon as he got there, which was about four hours after I did. I was really grateful to not have to sleep on the floor the first night in my new apartment.
Cory somehow managed to haul all of my stuff up two flights of stairs without complaint. He did have to borrow one of my neighbors to help him haul my giant wood desk up, but he got everything else in place just fine. The only issues I found were: the base of my TV was scratched up; a corner was chipped on a drawer of my wooden nightstand; and some of the legs of the nightstand were slightly damaged. They are pretty minor issues, but two of them could have been avoided with a little extra packing. Still not sure how the drawer got damaged because it looked like it was padded pretty well.
I do wish they offered a cheaper moving method, but I was fortunate to have the money to go the more expensive and much easier route. All in all, a great move. I’d choose ICM again. Mike’s binding price was exactly what I paid, everything happened in a timely manner and all four guys I talked to were as friendly and accommodating as anyone could ask for. Hooray for great customer service!

Friends, avoid this company like the bubonic plaque. We contracted with them to do a split move, one shipment going to
Idaho, the other to Florida. Four weeks have now gone by since they packed and picked up the Florida shipment.
It has been one lame excuse after another. Phone calls aren’t promptly returned and between them Michael and Lee, not only have no idea, they don’t tell the truth.
Case in point. Our Florida shipment supposedly was going to Florida from Las Vegas with no turns heading north. The other day we were told our goods were in the truck parked in Washington, DC. Neither Michael or Lee had an answer as to when things would be delivered.
Next week we file papers in small claims court suing them. The apartment in Florida sits empty as we pay rent on a place that doesn’t have a lick of furniture.
If you want to avoid this scenario take heed.
I have already notified the Las Vegas Better Business as well as the Nevada attorney general’s office. I am sure ICM will suddenly feel «motivated.» The question is when.

Extremely un-​professional moving company. Not insured, rented a truck from Ryder to move my things. Damaged and chipped the wood flooring (took a chunk of wood out of my stairway) in my home and did nothing about it. I ended up helping the movers move the heavier items because they could not handle it. Save yourself the headache and find a company that understands their business and customer service.

So glad I chose this company to move my stuff from Vegas to Los Angeles!
I needed to move quickly — called them on Monday, wanted stuff picked up on Wednesday and delivered on Thursday (which also happened to be New Year’s Eve) — and they were totally able to accommodate me. Lightyears better than the other companies I called who offered to deliver anywhere from one week to one month after picking up.
IC was also the cheapest — only $ 800 for the move, plus $ 30 to pack my dresser mirror and a glass tv table — by far the least expensive movers (others wanted close to $ 1500). Just FYI, I wasn’t moving an entire housefull of items (just a king bed, 2 dressers, a flat screen tv, a few tables/​cabinets, a small bookshelf, and a bunch of boxes). Also, they quoted me with a binding estimate, so I knew that’s exactly what I was going to pay, even though I ended up having a few more boxes than expected.
Although I’m still in the middle of unpacking, everything seems to have arrived in perfect condition. The pillowtop on my bed looked lumpy upon arrival but the delivery guy explained that it had been wrapped in the cellophane a little too tightly and just needed to relax itself back into place — and he was right. (He also spent a little time squishing it back into place, which was very nice of him to do.)
They were a few minutes late to arrive for picking up, but a half-​hour early for delivery, so it all evens out.
My only small nits to pick:
1. They didn’t have a screwdriver or box cutter during the pick-​up. I would recommend they bring their own tools — luckily mine were easily accessible but I’m sure they will soon encounter a move where the client’s tools have all been packed up already. (The guy who ran the delivery, Lee, DID bring tools, which was great.)
2. At the end of the *pick-​up,* after a bunch of normal paperwork (estimate, box listing, etc.), they put a piece of paper in front of me with the two movers’ names and time worked and told me to «fill it out.» Um, okay, what the heck does that mean? Turns out I was supposed to complete the big empty box on the right side with my comments on how they did. I’m told *after* I scribble something down that any reviewers whose comments are posted on their website will receive $ 500. My issue with this is two-​fold: A. Don’t ask me to review you when you’ve only completed HALF of the move — wait until you’ve delivered everything! B. Don’t give me the incentive AFTER I’ve already written the review.
3. I had to pay half of the bill when they were done loading up the truck. I don’t have a problem with that, but A. I wasn’t told this on the phone, and B. THEY ONLY TAKE CASH. So keep these things in mind. The guy was kind enough to inform me of this in the middle of the move so I could have gone to the ATM if needed.
4. When they arrived to deliver in LA, I had to pay the balance of the bill BEFORE my items were taken off the truck. That is ridiculous. Obviously it didn’t taint my experience too much since I’m giving them 4 stars (they were professional throughout and my items were ulitmately all there and in tact), but I think that’s absolutely outrageous to ask of their customers. What if something had been broken? What if something was missing? Absolutely ridiculous.
5. The son of the owner did my pick-​up, and in casual conversation he mentioned that they’ve only been in business for about 2 months. Word of advice for the future — I wouldn’t offer up this information too freely, especially *after* all of my belongings are on your truck and ready to be driven 300 miles away. It made me a bit uneasy but, as I mentioned above, luckily they hadn’t given me any other reason to not trust them so I wasn’t too nervous.
Overall the two main guys I dealt with, Michael (the owner’s son) and Lee, were incredibly friendly, experienced, professional, and smart about the move — which I truly truly appreciate. That combination of qualities seems to be difficult to find in a moving company. I would completely recommend them for your next move, just keep in mind the cash only policy.
