Fred Astaire Dance Studio

I will have my third lesson in tap with Nikki today. She’s spearheading the beginning adult tap program for this studio. She breaks every thing down in a very manageable way and is a lot of fun. The entire staff is very personable and interesting. I’ll be signing up for more tap lessons today, and will attend other beginner classes to help my learning curve along.

I visited Las Vegas 24 – 31 May of 2016 for a family reunion, and I always wanted to take Salsa lessons. My dance instructor inspired me to learn more dance styles, of which I am in need of more coaching, however, the want to learn is there. I am a retired Army veteran looking at Las Vegas for my business opportunities, higher education at UNLV, and Fred Astaire Las Vegas Dance School, professionally operated by Martin, is definitely another reason why I am going to make this move to Las Vegas. We bought the Groupon for wedding dance lessons. The staff, Martin, Nikki and Nikki (1 blonde/​1 brunette) we’re amazing. They were professional and very patient with us especially since I wasn’t a very good student in the beginning. They made our lessons really comfortable and really fun to where we wanted to come back for our next lesson. They even taught my wife and I how to do a lift which totally killed during our first dance. The studio was very clean and kept up to a professional level. The staff even sent us a thank you card and wished us congratulations on our wedding. I highly recommend anyone looking for dance lessons to go with Fred Astaire.

If you have ever thought about dancing but life happened and for some reason or another you just never got around to it… STOP PUTTING IT OFF AND RUN TO THE LAS VEGAS FRED ASTAIRE! Martin (the owner) has a fantastic studio, inside and out. It’s new, clean, and beautifully decorated on the outside with vintage Fred Astaire shots. He and his instructors are all extremely professional, knowledgeable and talented, but more importantly they make learning FUN! The staff and the (many) regular students make this dance studio very inviting, and there is no intimidation whatsoever, which is fantastic for the newcomers. The group lessons are so fun, and with everybody rotating you learn a lot faster about your individual dancing. Private lessons focus on technique and execution and whatever you want to be focusing on. This is a dance studio that refrains from looking down on you with snobby attitudes, but welcomes you with open arms. You won’t just gain dancing knowledge at Fred Astaire, you’ll gain a family!!!

As we were planning for our big day in October 2015, my now-​husband and I decided to add a dance routine to spice things up, you know, because we gays can’t just settle for a wedding, we want a full-​on production. As I called around and did some research, I found this Fred Astaire Dance Studio to be one of the most welcoming to same gender couples. Everyone is so warm and fuzzy here — they all give hugs. We came to this studio with basically no ballroom dance experience and wanted a «Dancing With The Stars» first dance. Nikki Wicker was our main instructor/​choreographer and bless her heart because we were such divas to work with. We wanted a sexy/​sassy Argentine Tango/​Hip-​hop-​ish routine to an R&B song. At first I wasn’t sure how this was going to pan out, but thanks to the creativity and patience of both Nikki and Martin, our wish came true. Nikki even edited our song for us. We had such an amazing time with our first dance and even had our wedding guests roaring! **booty shake curtsy**
The most helpful thing perhaps, was that we were provided multiple opportunities to perform our routine in front of audiences at the studio before wedding day. It definitely helped us get the jitterbugs out way in advance and dance confidently at our wedding. All-​in-​all, it took us eight private lessons for a three minute routine, a lot of bickering between me and my husband, one or two bruises, a bucket full of laughs, and a lot of dedication. Honestly, I think the prices are great. Definitely money well spent. We enjoy taking the group classes with the entire LV Fred Astaire staff and are looking forward to more lessons! Oh yeah, and one more thing, they provide breath mints to which I’m addicted! How considerate!

I started going to Fred Astaire Las Vegas as a new dancer about two months ago. I work long hours at a local hospital and was just looking for something fun and active to do once in a while to take care of myself and unwind; I felt immediately at home here and have been at the studio on almost all of my days off since! Martin, the studio owner, and instructors Nikki, and Nikki are very welcoming and encouraging. The studio atmosphere is friendly and warm. They really take the time to get to know you, make you comfortable, and explore your goals. I have seen them tailor lessons to couples, individuals, and children, experienced dancers, and first-​timers, and everyone seems to have a great time. I really enjoy the variety of group and specialty classes offered, and always learn so much in my lessons. I expected to find a casual hobby, but discovered a passion I am excited to continue exploring at Fred Astaire Las Vegas :)

My husband and I attended classes at Fred Astaire in June 2015, and we loved it! Neither of us had any prior dance experience, but under the patient and friendly tutelage of Martin, Nikki and Nikki, we both felt like we learned so much and had a wonderful time. The whole studio and everyone who attends is so friendly, it ends up feeling like a family before too long! The beginners classes, which fall on almost every night of the week, are very fun and social, and the private lessons are tailored to the individual or the couple and what they want to work on specifically.

Martin and his professional staff are incredibly personable. When I walked in the door it felt like being greeted by family, not a franchise. The entire staff has unique backgrounds and I am looking forward to finding what they have to offer individually. (Soon they are starting an adult tap dancing class?!) After the first lesson with my husband, we even received a handwritten notecard. They know what they are doing, on and off the dance floor. Despite their exquisitely beautiful dance technique and skill, they are not intimidating for new dancers, a.k.a. my husband. As a seasoned dancer, I am thoroughly inspired by the Fred Astaire Dance Studio programs. FADS tailors to each individual dancer’s speed of learning, goals, and personalities, while simultaneously keeping them on track with standardized levels. My husband and I are looking forward to logging many hours dancing here!

I wanted to take some dance lessons while on vacation in Las Vegas. This was a great experience. Martin quickly assessed my skill level and focused on how to improve. The staff is all friendly. Plus, I loved their mascot– sweet puppy dog Athena greets everyone at the door with lots of kisses and tail wags.

I love this place! Been coming here for a year now and I recommend it to all my friends and to anyone who wants to learn how to dance. The teachers are very friendly and everyone including the students are very welcoming. Great for any skill level especially to those who have never danced before. They will break down everything for you and help you out.

My daughters wedding was fabulous, best part was the bride and grooms first dance, choreographed by Nicky. Absolutely amazing, the best part of the wedding!!! Run don’t walk Nicky is fabulous!!! Thank you so much!

We’ve taken a bunch of lesson from Nikki for our wedding. At first we were just planning on choreographing something but we actually have taken a liking to it! Everyone is super friendly and the classss are fun too. We’ll definitely continue. :)

Nikki and Martin were super sweet and professional. I definitely recommend them. They performed at a wedding I planned and they were very entertaining.

I can almost word for word reiterate what Ghia said. My wife and I decided it was a very good idea to get a few lessons in before our wedding and maybe put a little something special together for our first dance. Martin was incredibly welcoming and patient with us. We got it 5 lessons before the big day and had something nice put together to the song we chose. I really hope to return so we can actually spend some quality time learning some different dance styles together. I’m very glad we chose this studio and wouldn’t go anywhere else after the treatment and experience we had with them. 6 stars

My boyfriend & I went here for an introductory lesson. Nikki was a fantastic teacher, and Martin was very welcoming when we arrived at the studio. Only a lack of money kept me from signing up for more lessons on the spot. Great studio, keep up the good work Nikki & Martin. :)

Martin and Nikki are truly fabulous teachers! My fiancé (now husband) went to take some lessons so that we didn’t make complete fools of ourselves on our first dance, I have NEVER danced (always played sports) and he was blessed with 2 left feet, amazingly they had some right feet available in their closet of tricks!!! We were both so nervous and a little skeptical that they could help us and make us feel comfortable dancing but they did! Not only did we master our first dance but we learned a couple of dances that I had always wanted to learn. At the wedding everyone was shocked at how good and graceful my husband was. My husband had so much fun dancing that we have decided to continue with lessons! Martin and Nikki are caring, professional, patient, and overall amazing people!!!

I’ve been on a hiatus from reviews on Unilocal for the last few months since I’ve been heavily wedding planning, but thankfully, the day has come and passed and now I get to thank all the wedding vendors who helped us along the way!
My now-​husband and I were really nervous about our first dance. Our song is Citizen Cope’s «Somehow», which, if you don’t have anyone telling you what to do and how to do it, you could of just do the awkward middle-​school dance arms around each other sway to. Thankfully, we made the realization about 6 weeks before the wedding that we should probably step up our first dance game. He did some research and called around to dance studios in the area. We settled on Fred Astaire Dance Studio because:
1) they answer their phones and return VMs in a timely manner (barely any studio called my husband back)
2) they are super nice on the phone (and in-​person, which we later found out)
3) they had an introductory deal that included a free private instructional class to see what they were all about
I was very nervous when walking into the dance studio, but everyone was very welcoming. They even had a «Welcome Ghia and Dan» notice on their whiteboard, which was a very personal touch. We met with our instructor, Nikki, and the owner, Martin. They played our song on their speakers and let us know the best dance to do to it would be the Rumba, which I had no experience with whatsoever, other than watching it be done on DWTS. After our private lesson, we sat down with them to discuss pricing. They are not pushy at all and made us feel very comfortable about everything, but honestly, we both realized very soon that we needed their professional help badly. We ended up getting 5 private lessons with unlimited group lessons for a month (they provide a calendar of group dance classes you can attend, which have a big variety). Nikki was great at assessing our comfort/​skill levels during our private lessons and we also got a lot of feedback from Martin at our progress. The group dance lessons were very fun and got us to go even more out of our comfort zone. You dance with a lot of different partners during this time, which may be scary for some people, but it actually helps you get so much more comfortable at dancing in general. I really wish we had more time during that month to attend more classes, but wedding planning really consumes all your energy.
What I really appreciated was their weekly dance parties (Wednesday and Friday nights). These parties gave couples the perfect opportunity to practice their dances in a fun, positive, judgement-​free environment. Even when we weren’t in a private lesson, Martin and Nikki continually checked in on us or gave us tips when they saw us practicing in studio. They are also just super down to earth people that really care about their students. Our first dance ended up going well very well (including a dip at the end) and we really owe that all to Fred Astaire Dance Studio!

I took my first ever ballroom dancing lesson this past week. I needed to learn the ChaCha for an upcoming event. The staff was very welcoming, extremely patient and informative. I would highly recommend this dance school and only wish I lived closer to be able to take more lessons.
