Evil Dead the Musical 4D

I need to preface this by saying that I have never seen the Evil Dead movies before 2015. My boyfriend is a huge Evil Dead fan. He was excited about the Ash vs. Evil Dead TV series on Starz. So when I happened to mention that they had a musical in Las Vegas, he really wanted to go. We bought the GA tickets from
. Just a note, there’s some ludicrous note about picking up your tickets at least an hour before the show at the Tommy Wind theater, don’t bother. Your name is in the computer on the list for the show times. They couldn’t print me tickets because their printer was down. I really wish they had mentioned it because I drove all the way into Vegas to pick up the tickets instead of checking in at my hotel first. It was a waste of time, especially since parking at the theater is $ 5 and there are no in and out privileges.
The musical is endorsed by Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell so it must be good, right? I have to say, some of the actors are really great. Some aren’t so much. The show incorporated both the first and second movies. It vaguely referenced the third movie which most people ignore anyway. It’s full of gore, blood, deadites, gratuitous cleavage, innuendos, and campy references. Some of the jokes worked, some didn’t, but most people had a great time. They have a «splatter zone» that you can pay additional to sit in but it’s more of a super-​soaker experience where they spray you with what smelled like watered down Hawaiian Punch or Kool-​Aid. I would not want to be sitting in the splatter zone but there are those who did and loved it. The cast even has time to pose for photos after the show too if you want to wait around. If you’re a true Evil Dead fan, you might want to check out the show next time you’re in Las Vegas. They’ve been in Vegas for 4 years now. 3.5 stars.

I’ve seen parts of the movies and my husband really wanted to go to this show and sit in the splatter zone. I thought it sounded fun so I bought the tickets. Also note the show is now in the tommy wind theatre not the v theatre.
When we arrived at the venue I was surprised by how run down it was. We sat at the bar and the bartender never helped us. We watched a number of people come up to the bar and try to get drinks but they were out of a lot of alcohol and then they ran out of sodas and then water! It was crazy… I was just thinking man this is going to be bad.
We got to our seats and the show started. we were hit with the «blood» 15 mins into the show… it was sticky, cold, tasted like koolaid and stained our skin. I really wish I would have moved out of that zone at that point. I thought the show was okay the acting was good, expect for the cussing. Like a previous reviewer said, I’m not prude, but the cussing was non stop! It was every other word. It’s like okay we get it… no reason to say stupid bitch over and over!
Anyways during the rest of the show we got shot with koolaid from the side. And throughout the show the actors would spray us with a a handheld thing. It was pretty lame and towards the end I was so tired of getting sprayed because I was so wet, sticky and cold! I guess I expected it to more like coming from the stage and part of the show.
I give two stars because I thought the acting and singing was good. I definitely recommend that you not see this show!

This was probably the greatest show I have ever seen. The entire thing had me and my husband rolling the entire time. I’m a huge fan of the evil dead and this was perfect. Yasssss it is worth.

I was scared to go to this. Last year I attended Zombie Burlesque and it was absolutely terrible, like the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life (I did a separate review for that). The friends we were with are HUGE Evil Dead fans and said they had seen this before and that it was worth it, so I trusted them, but continued to secretly fear a zombie burlesque-​similar experience. Thank god that didn’t happen.
We got a groupon that made the tickets $ 25 a piece. We opted for the non splatter zone as our friends had been before and said they just kill you with fake blood if you’re in it. I wouldn’t have minded a little splatter here and there, but I didn’t need a bucket kool aide dumped on my head just for kicks. It was a Friday night and the place was empty. The 2 rows of splatter zone were mostly filled, but other than that it was fairly empty so even though we didn’t pay for the «VIP» seats which were the 2 rows behind the splatter zone, that’s where we got to sit without an upcharge… coolness.
The thing was ridiculously campy and that’s what it should have been. It was funny without being middle school dick and fart jokes which is what I feared as that is what the zombie burlesque was. The acting was very good, the songs were hilarious, and they worked in all the good Bruce Campbell quotes/​lines. The sets and costumes were terrible, but you got the sense that they were «in on the joke» and meant to be terrible which added to the fun. Nobody was taking it seriously. At intermission some of the actors came out and talked to the splatter zone audience. A good time was had by all.
I don’t think I’d need to go see it again, but I DEFINITELY enjoyed it and would totally recommend it for Evil Dead fans!
Suggestions:
–Create themed drinks. At intermission the bar gal came in with blood-​looking shots for the splatter zone for free, but she should have been selling those ahead of time in the bar while we were all waiting. Some non-​shot drinks that were themed would sell well I think.
–The location of the theater is shady. I know it used to be in the miracle mile and that would have been much better. Honestly the theater is like down a dark/​creepy ally and had we not gone there in the daylight, I wouldn’t have really wanted to walk down there at night for the first time. It was dark by the time we came out, but since we had walked in during the day we knew the surroundings… although it was still shady. Didn’t love the location, miracle mile would be better.

huge fan of the movie, however this was pretty much an «eh» show. I would recommend taking in the free entertainment from the sidewalk performers over this, they’re better. I sorta feel for the cast as they are up there trying, but for how long this has been running it felt like they just threw it together. I really wanted to like this but even free alcohol wouldn’t get me back Btw they don’t give away alcohol…

I had been looking forward to this show for almost two years, so maybe I just set my expectations too high, but overall I was a bit disappointed. For starters, they had us lined up for nearly an hour before letting us in (20 minutes after the promised start time) so that seemed to zap everyones energy right from the start.
There were a few funny moments and it was mostly enjoyable, I just wanted more. The actors did a decent job, and much of the audience was really into it, but the production value was really low. I know this isn’t broadway, but I have seen better sets and props in high school productions. The script/​story stuck close to the Evil Dead story, but some of the songs were more annoying than funny (and I Love musicals… which is why I was pumped about one that included deadites) with such a great/​ridiculous story to build I just think they could have done a little better
Also skip the splatter zone, it is a joke. They don’t actually create enough splatter in the production so they have times where they just come out and spray people with a hose gag.

This is one of the worst shows I have ever seen. The humor was really off-​colour and just not funny. The music was terrible. The acting was a bit sad. The service at the theatre was pretty shitty; it took forever to get into the theatre because the last show had run over quite awhile, and we were all herded like cattle into a pen of a line, where we waited for 30 – 45 minutes to even get inside. Half the theatre was empty — and for good reason — and my view was almost completely obstructed by an unfortunately-​placed pole; it would have been much more practical to have us a bit further spread out to ensure we at least got unobstructed views.
Full disclosure: I walked out before the show was finished because I just couldn’t take the trainwreck anymore.

I really don’t know what to say. To preface, I love all of the Evil Dead movies so I was incredibly excited to see this.
Unfortunately it was a huge letdown. I almost walked out but was packed into tightly. I was in the second row outside of the splatter zone so I had great visibility of everything.
First issue I had was the swearing. I’m no prude, but the language was just over the top. If it added any humor, I wouldn’t care but it became repetitive. Almost every sentence had the f word.
The Ash character was the only one who wasn’t constantly swearing. It’s no shock he was the favorite character of everyone in the audience. In face I thought the actor who played Ash did an amazing job with Bruce’s facial expressions and expressions. They should have built a better play around that actor.
The splatter zone was a joke. It was very lazy. The actors came out twice with little hoses and just sprayed stuff on the people in the splatter zone. They also had some automatic spraying when there was violence, which was cool, but the lazy characters spraying syrup and making hacky high school jokes was just tedious.
Save your money when you go to Vegas. Go to Zombie Burlesque instead. It’s in the same theater and it’s fun and entertaining.

My boyfriend and I are huge Evil Dead fans, so when he told me he found a Groupon for half off the ticket price for the show, I was sold!
We arrived to the venue on a Saturday night and paid extra to sit in the splatter zone and receive Evil Dead Tshirts. Since we had arrived early, a deadite had escorted us to the splatter zone waiting area where we were handed blank white Tshirts. I was pretty bummed about the lack of consistency with the Tshirts. I previously had looked up reviews for the show and saw pictures of splatter zone survivors wearing Evil Dead shirts splattered with dark blood from the show, but plain white shirts with no explanation is what we were presented.
Once we were escorted inside, the auditorium was maybe the size of a small elementary school’s. The rules were announced and stated that no photos or video recordings were permitted but that we would all be getting personal group photos with the staff at the end that would be posted on Evil Dead The Musical’s Facebook page.
Once the show started, it began with the exact self aware ridiculousness as the films but took a turn when the audience started to realize that the production looked like it was thrown together by a few highschool drama kids. The costumes, props and gags were cheap and the blood they used to decorate the audience with was only watered down Kool-​aid. After the production was over, the audience made their way towards the exit where the cast was waiting with a photographer to snap photos of each group.
Overall, my boyfriend absolutely loved the production, but as for me, it’s been over a month and I still have yet to see our photo uploaded on the Facebook page (even after I contacted them inquiring about my photo) and I would never spend the full amount to see this play again. Granted the singing was on point, I just don’t think it’s worth the price.

The show was awesome! My husband and I went and really had a great time. We did no opt for the splatter zone, just general admission, and I am glad. Most of them were having fun getting «blood» squirted on them. I enjoyed watching them get messy. The script was pretty good — all the famous lines were worked in. The actors were good, too. I would go back and see it again.

We got tickets to this show through Fill-​A-​Seat, so they were (essentially) free.
Louisa M’s review is spot on. The cast is very talented and seemed to be having fun in their roles. The show itself is cheesy, in the right kind of way, and when it hits its stride, it’s funny.
But damn, it just didn’t move along sometimes. It’s like they built entire scenes around one joke that just could have been skipped entirely for the better. I was also ready to leave at intermission, but figured I’d tough it out since the people I was with seemed to be having at least an okay time.
The second half did pick up a bit, with a lot of the cherished Evil Dead/​Army of Darkness one-​liners picking up the energy. But then, when you think the show is finally over, there’s some stupid «learn the dance» thing that absolutely no one cared about. We waited in line for 30 — 40 minutes, then just sat through two hours of a show… we’re tired… just let us go home.
The splash zone looked like a waste of money too. I think there was one moment in the actual show where the audience was «splashed» — otherwise it was just blatant crowd abuse for the sake of soaking them with red-​colored water (which was still funny, but I wouldn’t be excited about the experience as a whole if I had paid extra to get those seats.)
The theatre is comfy enough (although cold, like most indoor places in Vegas, but be warned and do bring a sweater) — although we could hear the sound from another show running concurrently, and that distracted from what was happening on stage. They also kept trying to shill this «4-​D experience» app (that cost $ 2) before the show and again at the end that I could have done without.
Giving three stars because the actors deserved five… the show/​venue deserve two at best. I ain’t mad at it since I didn’t spend any money to see the show, but I sure won’t be dragging anyone back to see it.

My husband is a long-​time, huge ‘Evil Dead’ fan. I have never seen the movies. Yes, still. Never have seen any of them. So this review is for all of you folks out there who are being dragged to this show and have no clue what to expect.
Look, it’s not bad — in fact, it’s kind of fun for the first 15 minutes or so. The performers are delightful, talented and try very, very hard. The musical numbers are groovy and enjoyable. The seats are comfortable. The drinks are good (but VERY PRICEY, BEWARE: they automatically come in a stupidly expensive «souvenir cup»).
So what’s the issue? Let me elaborate.
The problem with this show is that it is WAY TOO LONG! We almost bailed at intermission and we would’ve if we knew we had hours left to sit through! It’s not that the show is bad or boring, it just drags on and on and on and on, to the point where you want to take a nap or leave but you can’t. I kept thinking «wow, it HAS to almost be over by now,» and then 20 minutes passed… then 45… then 60… then 90… You get the picture.
I would’ve been upset if we sat in the splatter zone. It was really just stupid, the performers came out and squirted red stuff all over. It was sort of like a Gwar show for people who didn’t want to get out of their seats. Pretty lame.
The «effects» are fun and funny and I did laugh quite a bit. That is, until they just wore me down so much with the length that I didn’t care anymore. We had comped casino tickets but I would’ve been upset if I had paid full price (look for discount tickets before going). I would ONLY recommend this to «Evil Dead» and Bruce Campbell fans, and only if you are TRULY die-​hard in your fandom. My husband was ready to bail on it too. Bummer.

Somebody please explain to me why Nikki H’s review is on top — it’s nearly 4 years old, and she was clearly clueless. Totally useless review. Ignore her.
First of all, if you are not a Bruce Campbell fan or have never seen the Evil Dead movies, why the sweet flaming hell are you coming to this show? That’s like going to see Star Wars and complaining because you don’t like science fiction. Or fantasy. Or movies.
This show is a cult classic for a reason. It’s cheesy, yes, because that’s the point! If you listen to the lyrics, it’s even funnier. People pay extra to sit in the splatter zone for the experience. If you don’t want to get wet, don’t pay extra and don’t sit there. Duh.
Chris, playing Ash, out-​Campbells Bruce himself. Handsome, hot as hell, and hilarious.
Jim, playing Good Old Reliable Jake, nails it. Campy? God yes. Like a cartoon! Fun! He can really sing, too.
The girl who plays Annie (Shelley in the First scene) has an incredible voice and is quite versatile. I didn’t even know it was the same girl until the end, lol.
They have beefed up the choreography since the last time I saw the show. They also have an «S-​Mart» in the lobby now if you want to buy souvenirs. You will still get free pics with the cast.
The show rocked.
The venue needs help. Drinks are so expensive and tiny they aren’t worth it. The show before ALWAYS runs long, which means we have to wait in line 30 – 60 minutes while they clear out (rude!) — another reason to ignore Whiny McClueless’s review — late starts have nothing to do with them.
UPDATE: I hear they have moved venues. Worth finding them again.

Seriously, ignore the one star reviews. Take them with a grain of salt and head into the ticketing line now.
If you either 1. Liked Evil Dead or 2. Like musical theater you will love this wonderfully cheesy yet hysterically funny theater show. The staff, crew and the actors are the most wonderful people. They really care about their fans!

One of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen in my life.
It’s a parady of all three m ovies so –do not– expect it to be true faith to the movies. It’s a vaudeville show with an evil dead theme. Go in there expecting that and you won’t be disappointed. .
if you want fun and laughter without spending 150 on tickets this is the right choice.
The casting crew really care about what they are doing at the production and that shows in the creation of a lowe budget vaudeville musical. with love –and lots of blood.

This review is for the 11:30pm show on Saturday 3÷8÷15:
The good: its was more entertaining than i thought it would be. Comfy seats and interactive staff. The actors were good and the script definitely touched on all 3 movies. The guys that played Scott and Ash were great.
The bad: All the songs the red head (Ash’s sister) performed were hard to hear. The words were all muffled. Not a talent issue but more so the songs are rushed through due to the tempo. Expensive drinks! $ 18 for a Tom Collins in a souvenir cup, which they don’t ask you if you want. You’ve preferred to be given the option. Regular cup drinks are usually a bit less.
The ugly: The show started a half hour late. So instead of 11:30 they started seating people around midnight, show started around 12:15. This wouldn’t be too big of a deal but the box office person made it a point to instruct us to get there super early to insure we’d be seated together. Fyi the theater was half empty sooo plenty of seats together. Because it started so late the show didn’t end until about 3am! Now i have to mention it was daylight savings that night so clocks moved up a hour. The problem with that was the tram we planned on taking back to the hotel stopped running at 2:30am! Perhaps had the show started on time we would’ve made that tram…

Disclaimer: I really like the Evil Dead movies.
Awful beyond belief. Had to wait outside for thirty minutes after the show was supposed to start. Acoustics were so poor that the lyrics were incomprehensible. Audio was canned — no live band.
The show itself is unwatchable. Low budget is fine, but the book itself and songs lack any sort of cleverness or subtlety. The jokes are repetitive and consist mainly of forced lowbrow; the MC had really nothing to work with during the audience participation bits. How this has run for over ten years is baffling; I feel bad for the performers, who have nothing to work with here. This is the first show I’ve ever been disappointed with in Vegas. Walked out at intermission. Don’t make the same mistake we did.

Where to begin.
As a fan of schlock, horror and musicals I had high hopes for this production. It just misses the mark. The actors are a hard working bunch.
Doesn’t quite honor the movie as I had hoped it would. The use of ‘blood’ is obvious and not really worked into the script, just more of an actor with a blood bag and a thirsty audience.
The script needs to be tightened up a bit and the production value increased. Again, the performers work their tails off — so — thank you to the cast.

Out of the several shows that were playing at the V, this was the show that intrigued me the most (along with Zombie Burlesque). I am a long time fan of the cult horror series «The Evil Dead», and I have long heard about a musical that was to be produced from it. At first I thought it would never be made… I mean, really? Evil Dead as a musical? How is that even possible.
Oh…it is so, so possible… and AWESOME.
Now humor me and tell me about another show that not only features the undead, but also completely drenches you in fake blood if you sit in the front two rows? Or one that stars a chainsaw and shotgun… er…boomstick…wielding hero? If you can, I’ll buy you a drink in Vegas sometime.
The show itself is hilarious. If you are a hardcore Deadite (fan of the Evil Dead series) and have a good sense of humor, you’ll absolutely love it. It is very faithful to the source material, but also condenses it so that all three films are covered in a three hour period. It includes everything from tacky special effects, terrible acting and a self deprecating comedy style. And when I say all these negative things, I am not bashing the show at all, because it’s ridiculing and paying tribute to the films. The music numbers add to the ridiculousness of the entire show, and it’s awesome to hear singing about blowing zombies to pieces.
I payed an extra twenty dollars to get the VIP seating, which puts you in the first two rows of the theater, also known as the «splatter zone». Basically, they give you a free t-​shirt, and you get doused with blood whenever a baddie gets chopped to pieces. The blood did NOT stain after washing carefully, and when I tasted it, it had a tart cherry-​like flavor to it. I ended up getting sprayed directly in the face and hair by one of the actors in the show, and when I asked him to spray me in the eyes, he gave me a questioning look and walked back on stage, muttering «There’s some sick people out there». I laughed out loud.
After the show you can buy some «S-​Mart» goodies from the show and films, and take pictures with the cast and crew. Everyone was super friendly and interactive, and it was easily one of the best shows I have ever attended. I will definitely watch it again after I check out Zombie Burlesque.

First off, I wouldn’t have picked a show like this, therefore I didn’t like it in the beginning at first. I went because couple of my friends wanted to see this show, and we had a Groupon, which was really worth it.
In the middle of the story, I did start liking the show till the end. Very good experience & great actors/​actresses!!. Whoever likes zombies, this is a very good show to watch in Vegas. Make sure you get the Groupon!
