I’ve had an account with DirectTV for 19 years. Their service was outstanding when I first sigend up but has reached a new low today.
I have two DirectTV DVRs in the house, one in the bedroom and one in the livingroom. The bedroom DVR started acting up about 6 months ago with a loud grinding noise. Having decided we no longer needed DVR service in the bedroom anyway, I decided to report the problem and ask that the DVR be replaced with a simple HD Receiver.
Nothing is simple with this company. DirectTV wanted $ 99 to come and replace THEIR failing equipment. Since the receiver was still working, I decided to let it grind away.
Six months later, the fan on the unit failed (surprise) causing it to overheat and no longer function. I called again and, even though the equipment is not functioning at all, they are still demanding $ 21 to come out and replace it. When I asked that it be replaced with just a receiver, the price went up to $ 99!!!
The only reason I sigend on with DirectTV was for the NFL Sunday Ticket but since the NFL has become a gang of thugs, I may drop Direct TV altogether and sign on with the local cable company (yes, it’s really that bad!).
Don’t let DirectTV lure you in with special offers etc., once they get their claws into you it’s nearly impossible to change your equipemt or your programming. Nay, nay stay away!!!

I have had Direct TV now for two months, I swapped from the cable company and what a difference. I have a better picture even when looking at the same HD channel. I had an issue at my install time but I called them and they had a tech out the next day who not only fixed our issues but stuck around and gave us a full show and tell on what our system could do. The online tools you get to watch tv outside of your home is too cool. I can control my tv from my smart phone not only to record shows I forgot to setup but also use it as my remote meaning I don’t need a remote. I’m impressed Direct TV you deserve my review and my service.

I moved and attempted to transfer service. It started with the tech no being able to find my house. Fine, now he’s coming in the afternoon. He never showed up and they then had the wrong address. I spoke with multiple people and it’s clear they aren’t on the same page.
I cancelled and then 30 days later they are still billing me! I called again to cancel and they won’t issue confirmation numbers. These guys are jokers. Never again…

If I could give negative stars I would. Worst customers service. I spent 3 hours on hold being sent back and forth between Century Link who handles their billing to Direct tv. They are scam artists. Placing entertainment packages and sports packages I never ordered. I will never use them again. I will tell thousands of people not to use them. Don’t use them. The worst ever

Keep the Direct TV number in your speed dial because you will be calling them a LOT! Also, beware of your bill creeping up after 6 months. Don’t let them trick you into online billing unless you keep close track of your bills every month. After about 6 calls in a 2 month period, they insist that there is no problem, but after I insisted that they replace the box, it turned out that the previous installer used the wrong fitting causing bad tv reception.
The new installer was shocked that his fellow installer made this mistake, because I am sure they put in their notes that the customer was the problem. Another common excuse I heard from their «customer service (not so much)» is that freezing and pixelling is Normal. Really? Because I wasn’t told this when I signed the 2 year contract. And to get out of it you will pay $ 20 for every month that you skip out on. Beware!

I had called Direct TV at (855) 679‑4357 and was on hold for 5 – 10 minutes. Finally, a male voice came on, in a monotone voice and wasn’t much help when I explained to him that I’m only in Las Vegas only (3) times a year because I use that home as a vacation home. I hung up with him and remembered that I had forgotten to ask about my contract expiration date.
I called back a second time and spoke to Jill. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! Jill was so friendly and said that she would do all she could to help me save some money since I’m hardly at the Las Vegas house. I took the less expensive package and am so happy with her help! She explained to me that I could take the less expensive package and still stay within my contract; which no one ever told me. I’d give her 10 STARS if I could!!! Thank you Jill!!!

If I could rate Directv any lower I would, worst customer service i have ever experienced! my service still is not working correctly and i have called several times to have the issue fixed with absolutely no help from them. i would recommend to anyone to avoid direct at all cost.

I have been trying for two hours to restart my service at our new address in Henderson. I have been transferred to si different departments and each one says they are the incorrect department. I have given up. This is the worst customer service I have ever encountered, and I am an old man!

We have been with Direct TV for 13 Months. The reason i know that is, we tried to cancel today and they said we had 11 months left on our contract. it will be 220.00 to cancel it. Oh the reason we want to cancel… Channel 5 NBC in Utah has been cancelled. because they are having some kind of contract dispute with the local stations. It has been out for at least 2 weeks, maybe more. Foot ball starts tomorrow and wow is it going to be bad in our house without football… They offered to give us 10.00 a month until they get it figured it… Gee thanks! They have you over a barrel, you can pay to get out of their contract. But they don’t have to abide by their contract to provide local TV service, we should be able to cancel if they don’t deliver what we signed up for.

They are the MOST expensive TV service. Kinda like voting for a politician… you take the «best of the worst.» Just looking over the comments here on Unilocal… this is EXACTLY the experience I had: Sales people that outright LIE to you, HORRIBLE customer service and inept and aloof employees. When it works… programming is OK. But Customer Service will direct you to a 3rd world country with employees that have NO IDEA what they’re doing… except when it comes to locking you into a 2 year contract– no matter how they have to lie or misdirect you. Maybe the should be called «MISDirect TV». Good luck with customer service AFTER you sign up. You too will rate them 1 or 2 stars. Curious how such a BAD company can get so big. Lack of quality competition I guess? NOTHING is free with these guys– get EVERYTHING in writing and be prepared to be on hold a minimum of 45 minutes for the simplest thing!

Ever Since the ATT & Direct TV joined it just became downhill for them, I had 2 accounts with them, one that was closed was out of contract and it was ok to disconnect (this was before they joined) For the second, it was horrible, got charged extra with no reminder, customer service has gone down hill, I am no longer a customer thank goodness and now just have Netflix, because I am hardly home.

Update: I spoke with Brian in Retention Services who was very apologetic for the way I was treated and worked hard to I’ve me incentives to stay. After reviewing the reviews of the carrier I was going to switch to it seems that while you may have to keep reaching up the chain of command and threaten cancellation of services, Directv is the best option. I hate their customer service but I enjoy the TV service. Once the initial problems were resolved my TV has been great and I like the fact that you can record 3 shows at once. Sticking with the evil I know over the horror stories I have read online about Century Link.

I have been with Direct TV for 3 years. The last year was month-​to-​month because we had a poor experience with customer service prior to our contract ending. We tried to upgrade receivers, lower our bill, etc. but kept getting inconsistent information. We were NEVER contacted by customer service to follow-​up (probably because we were paying $ 189/​mo.) during the last year. We cancelled last week and they are blowing up our phone! Too little too late Direct TV. We’re done. Stop calling!

Our service is constantly cutting out and glitching, we ordered the mlb extra innings and are constantly blacked out from all the games and they don’t provide internet. Not to happy with them at all!

Absolutely horrible customer service. I was quoted a price and told that my bundle of tv and internet could be paid together and told me a price I liked, when I was «transfered» I was hung up on and when I called back I got a whole different price and told completely different terms of the agreement, including having to pay two separate bills. What is the point of bundling if I still have to deal with two companies and pay two separate bills?
I’m seriously considering cancelling it before my installation, if this is how their company operates. Beware!

I’ve learned no matter who you have for TV, cox, Dish, CenturyLink… you’re gonna get screwed & your bill will always be wrong. For me it comes down to how frustrated do I want to be when I call customer service? DirecTV is the least frustrating bc I learned the trick to dealing with them.
As is the norm, my bill was (and still is), wrong. I call & can’t get anywhere with them. Sometimes I call 2 – 3 times in a row… you’d think ONE of them would be able to tell me why my bill is wrong & fix it. Nope. So I gave up & filed a complaint with the BBB. It was then, & only then, the mistake was acknowledged & $ 400 in credits issued. Unfortunately, it was all absorbed on the next months bill. So I’ll file another BBB complaint to get it fixed… again.
BTW… My bill is supposed to be $ 75/​mo. Every month its over $ 175. And I don’t order movies or PPV.
