Compudoc Computer Repair

Since I noticed that Gareth posted the first part of our email dialogue, I thought I’d post the second half. It contains my response and reasons why I wouldn’t retract my previous review:
1. I never got the original ram upgrade or heard from your company regarding it.
2. I lost two weeks worth of work.
3. My computer runs slower (the latency time for audio signals «round trip» is 10ms longer than before).
4. At one point when I questioned the shipping delay and the authenticity regarding replacement parts, Tony got angry and told me that if I didn’t like it, «you can take your computer back and sue me.»
Although my initial experience with your company was positive, my most recent one was horrible, so I won’t be changing my review.
I lost time, I lost money, and had to take BS from Tony, who could use a «Customer Service 101» refresher.
I plan to take my computer to Apple to have the ram upgrade installed and a diagnostic performed to correct the audio latency.

After weeks of pulling hair trying to figure out why my HP Pavilion speakers were not working properly or at all at times, i met Tony who immediately knew exactly what the problem was and fixed the issue I was having. The expertise and customer service i experienced here is exceptional. I highly recommend this professional.

We were having issues with streaming Netflix and downloading rentals from Apple TV. Matt came out, listened to what we said, tried one way and then another until it was fixed. It’s now working beautifully. We couldn’t be happier. Thank you Compudoc!

I went to Compudoc because of their strong Unilocal ratings. My 3-​year old laptop crashed so I took it there. Tony first tested the hard drive to check if it was still good. He said it was. Strangely enough, when he booted it up, it worked! Casey then convinced me to leave it there for a $ 59 diagnostic test. So I did. He said it would be ready the next day. The next day, Casey called to say that the laptop crashed again, and they needed more time to figure it out. He said he was going to call me by the end of that day to update. I did not hear from him. The following day was a Saturday so I called to follow up. I was told it was Casey’s day off. I talked with Tony and he said it was my anti-​virus program that got corrupted. He said he had to uninstall and reinstall. I felt like I had to chase them for an answer and when I could have my laptop back. I finally got them to say that it would be ready by 1pm (upon shop closing). Long story short, I got my laptop back before Sat 1pm, and it’s now working. I’m giving them only 4 stars because they did not meet their own deadline, and they did not give me a feeling of confidence that they could actually fix it, although they did. I would go back there, though, to try them again if I had another laptop problem.

I really appreciated the services that Casey was able to provide for my laptop. He was extremely professional & his computer knowledge is absolutely endless. The price I paid for that type of service & expertise was very affordable as well. I highly recommend these guys!!!

My wife’s laptop (Sony VAIO) had some water spilled on the keyboard and went completely dead. (she was giving water to our dog so naturally it was the dogs fault LOL) We were very pleased with the speed the problem was diagnosed. It needed a new board which had to be ordered. We were told 3 – 5 days for repairs. Got a call in 4 days saying it was ready. Great service AND small business (for me a plus) Seems like way too many «superstores» taking over lately.

What can I say when the charger port for my laptop broke I thought I would have to buy a brand knew one. Fortunately Compudoc was recommended to me by a friend so I decided to check it out. Once I arrived they took one look at my laptop and gave me a reasonable price to have it replaced. The service there was great with the employees having a great deal of knowledge in the field and they gave me useful information for my next laptop purchase. They ordered the part and had it replaced the same day it arrived. The whole process took no longer than a week and my laptop is as good as new. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is having issues with their PC/​Laptop.

The store is under new management and, possibly, ownership… so the current employees are still a bit green. It took the technicians quite a while to fix my laptop as they ordered the wrong screen (which appears to be an amateur mistake). They did honor the Angie’s List coupon, however, so I received a discount. They kept me informed as to the progress of repair (which helped), but they were a bit slow. I would still use this outfit as the employees are friendly and helpful. However, they may not be my first choice.

I’m impressed! CompuDoc took my sad little HP Sleekbook from DOA to as good as new in just over an hour.
I walked in without an appointment (because, let’s be honest, I hate talking on the phone!) and was greeted immediately. Explained the situation and in short order, Casey started making a diagnosis and taking it apart to confirm, all the while reassuring me, as any good doctor with a decent bedside manner would, that the parts he was removing and the cracking noises it was making in the process were completely normal. Can’t say I wasn’t a little nervous, but since the thing was basically a brick when I brought it to them, could it get any worse? Once he had the memory out and confirmed that was the issue, he started talking fixes and cost. All very reasonable. I had some shopping to do, so I left him to it and he advised me to return in about an hour, which I did. The laptop was back together, looking all bright and shiny and a demonstrative power-​up was done to show me they’d done as promised before I paid my fee and was happily on my way.
I have never had to use a computer repair specialist before, but this machine was just 2 years old and I did not feel ready to plunk down the funds for a new one just yet. So glad I took the time to check out CompuDoc (and didn’t just run it over to the chain store nerds that I doubt could do the job as quickly, nor as cheaply).
When I mentioned I’d found them by checking reviews on Unilocal,I was told they like to treat their « Unilocal customers» well. So be sure to say you found ‘em here. I think it will serve you well.

They brought my laptop back to life. I thought I would have to throw my laptop that I bought 2 years ago away, but they were able to save it. After bringing it into the shop, 2 short days, I was able to use my laptop that I thought I was finally going to have to part with. It runs perfectly, like new! Thanks Compudoc!

Bad CPU and I was stressing about where to take my PC. Like many people I“ve been ripped off before. Work that was never done, parts that were never replaced.
The guys at Compudoc were very friendly and knowledgeable. I thought about doing the repair myself, but Compudoc charged me a very reasonable price for the CPU and installation. Twenty minutes after arriving the CPU had been replaced and I was on my way. I’m very happy with the service as well as the pricing.

My husband’s older laptop failed to boot-​up on a Friday morning. My husband used this laptop for software development and it had been three days since he last backed-​up the memory. We took the laptop to CompuDoc for a diagnostic and emphasized to Tony that our main concern was getting the data off the hard-​drive so my husband would not lose any of his work. Within about 90 minutes after dropping off the laptop, Tony called and said the motherboard not worth repairing or replacing, especially since it was an older computer. However, he could transfer the data off the hard drive to an external drive, and then we would be able to put the data on a new laptop. We purchased an external drive and gave it to Tony on Saturday.
Tony started the transfer of all the laptop’s hard drive data on Saturday but it had not been completed by Monday morning when he thought it would be ready. On Monday, my husband was able to work with Tony to just transfer the files he needed to the external drive. Although Tony quoted us $ 55 for the diagnostic and $ 55 for the data transfer, he only charged us $ 44 due to the delay and because we used our «Angie’s List» coupon.
We felt that Tony was straight with us and concerned about providing us the best advice for our situation, and very accommodating to our needs and was extremely fair with his pricing. We would definitely use CompuDoc services again.

Stressed out & getting an extension for my taxes because my computer had a virus. I had made an appointment with the «geek squad» to take my laptop in for repairs, they quoted me $ 200. I went on Unilocal to call around to see if I could get a less expensive price. COMPUDOC was the second company that I called, they quoted me a better price and they were just off the 95 on Jones. I took it in within the hour and I had my laptop back the following day. I was also having problems with Adobe and they fixed that too. I’m glad that I found a place to take my computer to be fixed and serviced! They are very professional and they know their stuff!

I spilled some water on my computer and it stopped working. The guys seemed very knowledgeable and figured out what parts worked and what needed to be replaced. There was no upcharge on parts and they charged a reasonable rate for labor. When I got home, I ran into an unexpected problem and the guys were very helpful on the phone. They also offered to replace another part at no charge but it wasn’t necessary.

Wow, Gareth and crew really know their stuff! I fancy myself a computer guy, and even double as a Linux Systems Administrator in my current job, but couldn’t for the life of me figure out what was making my computer go so slow. Prior to booting the computer up, Gareth and one of the other employees already had a couple of guesses based on the symptoms I gave them. They had to hold my computer overnight, but in less than 20 hours I was called with the exact problem and a solution.
It turns out my hard drive was busted from general wear and tear (I’ve had the thing for exactly 5 years) and Gareth gave me a few options on how to fix it. He has a very reasonable price plan for diagnostics, labor, and parts, but in the end I figured it’s time to put this outdated hunk of technology out to pasture. From what he told me, he also helps with tablets/​phones and does windows/​macs. We have a variety of all of these in our house and now I know where to go if any of these start giving me issues. I live in the centennial area and have been severely burned by the repair shops up here (I’m look at you Friendly Computers and Laptop Xchange), so it was a breath of fresh air to find Compudoc.
Who would have thought there could be an honest, skilled, and reasonably priced service anywhere in this town? By the end of my time, I was merely charged for the diagnostic for my system (no hidden fees or upselling). I really appreciate how quick this service went while not sacrificing quality along the way. I will definitely be back to the Compudoc the next time my computer gets sick.

I’ve been dealing with Gareth for a couple years. He is very to the point and usually knows exactly what’s going on with your computer right from the start.
He has many years experience and I believe this is always worth your time since the efficiency of what he can do will be worth the money.
Don’t bother getting half ass customer service from these big retail places, get the full experience of a professional.

ROCK SOLID
Gareth Spicer is a formidable technician and service provider. He bailed me out when my antique iBook G4 crashed. I was lazy and complacent about backing up my files. I was living in a fantasy world. I paid dearly – $ 400.
Along with all my vital docs and spreadsheets, Gareth was even able to bring back my Internet bookmarks, which I didn’t think would be possible. The $ 400 was painful, but having my precious files recovered was priceless. If you think you can find a better deal, I say good luck with that.
Gareth is very busy, so don’t expect him to schmooze. He’s busy because dependable, rock-​solid providers are hard to find. He graciously took time to answer some questions while pausing every minute to take phone calls.
What’s the best way to back up your files? It doesn’t matter! Just back ‘em up! How simple is that? I’m using a 32GB thumb stick. Now that I know how easy it is, I feel like a complete idiot for having to come to Gareth in the first place. I’m gradually becoming tech savvy! I use Google calendar to send me a daily reminder: Backup!
BATTERY MYSTERY SOLVED
Gareth knows how to talk to a tech simpleton like me. He’s very patient and understanding. I asked him about the laptop battery dilemma. For years people have told me Don’t leave your laptop plugged in. Unplug it, discharge the battery, then plug it back in. When it’s charged, unplug it again.
It sounds so impractical. It turns out the «plug and unplug» crowd are right. In as little as six months, Gareth says, you can ruin a laptop battery by leaving it plugged in. My iBook battery wouldn’t hold a charge for more than a few minutes.
Gareth’s solution is idiotically simple. Just take the battery out when you’re not using it! Laptop batteries are easily removed. If you’re working at your desk, run the laptop from house current. Slide the battery in when you’re on the move. Now I know why so many laptop users are frantic to find an outlet. They’ve worn out their batteries. Just remember where you put your battery! I keep mine in my laptop case.
You can save a few bucks by doing your own demo work. Lucinda, the mechanical one in the family, tore apart the useless iBook in no time and dragged out the hard drive.
If you don’t need the latest and greatest in technology consider getting a refurbished machine from Amazon. I got a perfectly good MacBook for $ 400. It has Microsoft office etc. Everything I need.

Whenever you get a great service and a wonderful attitude at a very fair price, you can’t help but be happy and satisfied as a customer. Gareth was Superb! Highly recommended because he’s knowledgeable and didn’t try to upsell me or worse!
