Specialties

Strength training is our specialty here at Average Broz’s Gym! Our gym fundamentals are centered around Olympic Weightlifting movements, the Snatch, and the Clean & Jerk.

Along with our 12 Olympic Lifting platforms (which are outfitted with Eleiko and Uesaka equipment), we also have a wide range of body-building, power-lifting and strength-training equipment including power racks, benches, pulldowns, seated rows, T-bar rows, grip tools – even dumbbells up to 120 pounds.

ABG is well known for its unique training environment which breeds comradery, support, and friendly challenges. The gym is very welcoming for all ages and strength levels. We have athletes of all calibers – from world-class to beginner, youth to retired masters.

From Average Joe to pro – everyone is welcome!

History

Established in 2007.

John Broz has been lifting weights since 1978. His passion for strength has kept him consistently involved with weight training his entire life. Eventually, needing a place to continue his own individual training, in 2003 he rented a small place that allowed him to drop weights which is needed for Olympic Weightlifting (and often not allowed at public gyms).

Word of this small «hole in the wall» place spread, and in 2005 others began to train there. In 2007 a team name was needed to enter into a competition, so a post-workout brainstorm began; within ten minutes the name was born: Average Broz’s Gym.

Since that time the gym has moved three times, each time to a bigger and better location; it is currently conveniently located on Las Vegas Boulevard.

ABG has produced some amazing results thus far – from teaching young kids how to get stronger, be more flexible and have better posture to having competitive, world-class athletes.

Meet the Business Owner

John B.

Business Owner

Broz was introduced to Olympic lifting at the age of 10, and during his early years as an athlete he trained at the Olympic Health Club in Cleveland, Ohio. Among his mentors were John Schubert, who coached countless National Champions, Olympic team members and the last male Olympic weightlifting champion from the US, Charles Vinci.

He was then introduced to powerlifting and coached by World Champion Powerlifters Vince Anello, who deadlifted over four times bodyweight in the ‘70s; and John Black, who squatted 821 @ 198, who went on to open the now legendary gym, Black’s Health World. Later he would befriend and eventually live and train with 3x World Weightlifting Champion and World Record holder, Antonio Krastev of Bulgaria.

With 35+ years of experience in Weightlifting and Strength training he continues to train hard — he holds national masters records and remains undefeated in international competitions, including National, Pan-American and World Championships.
