AFS The Asylum Fight Team is a free MMA /Submission grappling club.

We founded the club on the belief that there lot of people would to train or cross train but are not in a financial position to do so and don’t think money should be the sole roadblock to doing something you love. Life is about more than money and Martial Arts can be a path to making your life better.

Train to get in shape, learn self defense, compete or just for fun. The goal of AFS The Asylum Fight Gym Vegas is to provide real training in a safe, friendly low stress ego free environment. We are dedicated to helping every student meet their meet their training goals. We only teach those 15 years old and over and our students range from beginners to competitive fighters. We train both Mixed Martial Arts and Submission Grappling based on the Burmese Martial Arts

History

Established in 2015.

AFS The Asylum is run by Phil Dunlap a former fighter who for over 20 years ran a school /fight team AFS The Asylum Fight Gym in the NY metro area training countless fighters who competed in Mixed Martial Arts, Submission Grappling, and Thai Boxing prior to having to close the school due to severe health issues. Phil moved out to Vegas over a year ago and as his health came back he missed training and teaching so he decided to open AFS The Asylum Fight Team. Phil believes finances should not be the major roadblock to training and doing something you love so 3 times a week he runs free classes for the general public.

Phil D.

Business Owner

Phil Dunlap is the owner and head instructor at the Asylum Fight Team Vegas. He founded and taught at AFS The Asylum Fight Gym in the NY Metro Area for over 20 years training countless fighters for combat sports including MMA, Thai Boxing submission grappling and No Gi Bjj.

Phil was a very active professional fighter between the ages of 16 and almost 26 fighting constantly until breaking his neck in a terrible car accident just before his 26th birthday. After being told he would never do anything physical again he rehabbed his body and started the Asylum. While training others to fight he decided to prove the doctors wrong and fight again.

In 1998 at the age of 36 he began fighting again before deciding to retire and focus on training others and building up the Asylum Fight Team. After developing some serious health issues he closed the school and moved to Las Vegas. With his health back at the age of 52 he has started competing in No Gi Submission grappling tournaments again.
