This is my go-to sushi spot in Marin, the staff is so nice, the fish is the freshest I’ve had since moving from the east coast. Highly recommend this spot! Very low key inside, small sushi bar and limited seating. Outdoor seating in the warmer weather. LOVETHISPLACE!

Went on a insanely cold night… place has no HVAC(single space heater), but it is in the old rail depot, charming and has history… the hot tea and Beer helped keep is warm. Staff is all very friendly. Took awhile to get order in, but it was busy for a small place, and not worse than expected from a sit down place… The annoying loud mother and teenage kids at table in corner? Not their fault… Sushi prices were eyebrow wrinkling $ 9−12… As in $ 3 – 5 less than what we were used to at «affordable places»…so we ordered one extra roll than normal, plus the Japanese Katsu Chicken nuggets $ 6 for our 2 year old… All the food was great. The chicken Katsu was very very good. Our toddler was happy, as were we, as we ate some too. We got Dragon Roll, Rainbow, Hawaii(maybe? Forgot!). We have replaced another sushi haunt with this one. Affordable, friendly, small, and quite good. Winner, winner, Chicken(Katsu Nugget) Dinner!

Food is good. Atmosphere is funky/small. I was disappointed to see bluefin on the menu. «Tuna is one of the most common types of fish in the world — and it’s also one of the most threatened species of fish. Small changes in the types of tuna you consume can make a big impact on sustainability. Species like yellowfin(also called ahi tuna) and skipjack tuna are fine to eat. Other types, like bluefin tuna, should be avoided.»

King of the Roll is a great addition to Larkspur eateries. I’ve been going to and getting takeout from King of the Roll for years. I think it’s important to note that I’m allergic to fish and still fully able to eat here. My girlfriend is also a vegetarian. Needless to say, there’s plenty of options here. The Atmosphere is great, it’s a small place that’s often bustling before 8:30pm on a weekday. There’s a ton of character. There’s limited outdoor seating on the front patio in the parking lot that has views of downtown Larkspur, and more plentiful patio seating on the back patio — this is on a bike path and can be great in the summer time. There’s also limited«bar» seating that overlooks the sushi chef, John Wayne(no joke, his parents evidently loved cowboy movies before he was born). You can often here John yelling quick questions in Japanese. The food is awesome. I can’t personally review the sushi but have heard the Tako is great. I’ve had California Rolls(not allergic to shellfish) and avocado rolls, both are delicious. The prices are entirely affordable($ 2.95 for 6 avocado rolls!) I’m a big fan of the chicken teriyaki here. I find the gyoza to be slightly too meaty for my taste and the udon broth to be a little tasteless at times, but the price is affordable. Cheap sake($ 4.95 for a large hot sake) and cheap wine($ 4.95 for all wine, all Mondavi). All in all the service is great and it’s a great local place, you just need to find what type of food you like(chicken teriyaki!)

«King» might be overstating things but«Baronet» or «Knight» most certainly. King of the Roll pumps out well-priced maki, hand-rolls, and nigiri in an atmosphere that would fail to impress all but the most undemanding commoner. It’s a place where you can enjoy a couple of 6-piece maki prepared to order and get back change from a $ 10 bill.
There will be no confusing King of the Roll with someplace like Sushi Ran, either in your wallet or your gullet. On the flip side, there’s also no confusing them with Yu Shang and for that you should be thankful. As far as price comparisons, KOTR will hit your wallet much more softly than nearby Fukusuke. The thing I’ve really come to like about King of the Roll is that it’s the perfect place for a casual mid-week meet-up with a friend and a perfect place for a solo maki outing, They’re not breaking any new ground but their fish is fresh, of high enough quality, and so right-priced(maki runs $ 3 — $ 5) that the whole thing adds up to a win in my book. Despite Larkspur’s multi-million dollar housing stock I suspect what keeps this place running are the value-conscious locals. It’s an easy place to pop into before a movie at the Lark Theater or to grab a snack at any old time. Service is good and responsive but you might wish to clarify your order; sometimes there’s a disconnect between what one orders and what gets prepared. Even if I merely anoint them«Knight of the Roll» they sit high atop this mere plebian’s rotation of worthwhile restaurants.

Amazing. Excellent Sushi. Service is pretty good. Food came out in a timely fashion and presentation is nice. Décor is dated but it’s clean. Very good fresh clean fish, seafood. Delicious. Had the maguro, sake, ebi, spider roll, dragon roll and California roll. We will be back. Prices are good too.

Love this place! It’s a fun little atmosphere with great prices and pretty good sushi! Love the Golden Gate and the Vanna rolls. Also the bento dinner is a screaming good deal! It’s not mind blowing sushi but it’s great for the lil olé town of Larkspur!

Fresh, generous portions of sushi — try the toro and unagi nigiri, and if you like rolls, the Dragon(crab meat, shrimp tempura topped with avocado and unagi) and Queen Rolls(crab, avocado, cucumber, topped with tasty grilled salmon) can’t be beat. Nice selection of cold sakes, and they offer Japanese beer and hot sake as well. The waitress that served our table was attentive and sweet. Two thumbs up for our favorite sushi joint in Marin!

Oh my god, this place gets me every single time! You may notice that the more recent the reviews are, the better they are! Well, I still liked this a long time ago. Though their choice of music is a little dull(still, though, I named the songs things such as «Flight of the Paper Cranes» and«The Blossoming Lotus Flower». The service is fast but not too fast, and the food is DELISH. Adults and their kids both will LOVE this restaurant. One of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Larkspur and Marin FORSURE. Their miso soup is delicious and flavorful.

But woooooow! Fresh, delicious and original. I wish I lived in larkspur now. I would eat here once a week. For sure. Anna roll is wonderful and the hand rolls are too. Service is good too. I was looking for a different sushi restaurant on the map but landed here. So glad that i did. Nce to write a positive review once and a while… Sweet.

I really enjoy this place. Large portions, good food & atmosphere for a reasonable price. I usually get the bento box which comes with salad, sushi, miso soup, rice, tempura & toasted rice green tea for under $ 12. Quite tasty!

I really don’t understand the low ratings people are giving this place. Hubby and I just returned here for our 14th wedding anniversary after a long absence from having moved out of the area. This used to be our«go to» sushi joint when we lived in corte Madera back in 2000. Well, 14 years later I can say that the sushi is as great as I remember it to be. Very fair prices, we got 4 rolls(yellow tail and green onion was especially delicious) and every one was fabulous. We left feeling very satisfied and it only cost us $ 24(including the tip!). For a great meal on a Saturday night I’d say that is not bad at all! The service was a bit slow and chaotic but I think we arrived at the peak if the dinner rush. Once the place had cleared, they were very attentive. Always friendly and welcoming, this place is great. Just wish we had one in Petaluma that could live up to this one.

I decided to give this place another shot and I was left with a mixed feeling. The raw Oysters were really excellent — The tabiko, scallion, and citrus sauce with a bit of kick complemented the oyster very well. The 49er roll was good — Nothing special. HOWEVER, the last roll on the menu which I believe was called the fire cracker roll. STAYAWAY from this nasty thing. It is a bunch of rolls cooked together and topped with a mayo hot sauce — It tasted like a fish enchilada gone terribly wrong. Not a pleasant experience.

I love Johnny! Ive been coming here since I was 16 and the sushi is just as good and never disappointing. Top 5 reasons you have to try this place: 1) the fish 2) unagi 3) cucumber salad 4) the secret rice recipe 5) best Dragon and Spider Roll Not sure what his secret is but whatever he puts in the rice gives it a unique flavor and texture that i havent been able to find anywhere else. Fish is always fresh from his secret source, unagi is cooked perfectly, free cucumber and crab salad is the perfect amount of sweet and tangy, and the rolls are always on point. You must try… a full size cucumber salad, fresh oysters, spicy tuna handroll, Dragon roll, Spider roll, albacore sashimi, hotate nigiri, and the King roll. Cozy local spot with great flavors and an awesome chef/owner who knows his stuff !! Enjoy…
