Our approach is based on years of research into education and methods of teaching. We use cognitive learning techniques to help children develop more effective ways of thinking, concentrating, listening, and remembering. Each program begins with a Dynamic Assessment, our own combination of internationally recognized assessment tools, to help us better understand the individual characteristics of every child we teach. History

Established in 1984.

GradePower Learning is the U.S. name for Oxford Learning, which opened in London, Ontario in 1984. The founder, Dr. Nick Whitehead, identified a need among many families for a supplement to school that doesn’t just drill information, but actually strengthens their critical thinking, so they can learn more easily and achieve their full potential in all subjects — not just reading or writing or math. He developed Oxford’s curriculum to both train the most important thinking skills, and improve reading, writing, math, and study skills. For twenty-​nine years, Oxford Learning in Canada, and now GradePower Learning in the U.S., have been helping children become independent thinkers and active learners.

Meet the Business Owner

Jan H.

Business Owner

Jan is a talented, Speech and Language Pathologist. She has many years of experience working with people of all ages. She discovered this franchise and knew immediately that she’d found the perfect vehicle to achieve a life long goal of helping kids with learning challenges.

Jan and her husband of 25 years, Randy raised three amazing kids of their own. Their oldest daughter, Sarah, graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Psychology and has worked with Autism. She is joining the venture as Education Director of the Largo Learning Center.

Sarah graduated from the International Baccalaureate High School in Bartow, FL Her outstanding scores on the SAT and ACT make her the perfect instructor for our test prep and college readiness programs.

Middle daughter, Kelly and son Kenneth are still attending U of F.
