Specialties
The Voracious Reader … for young people with an appetite for books, serves as a community hub for book culture in Westchester County. With a wide selection of books for babies through young adults, the store also carries adult titles, book related toys, jewelry and clothing and has a charming teashop on premises as well. Author events, book themed birthday parties, teen nights and more, add to the joyful celebration of books found at this not to be missed destination.
History
Established in 2007.
Going into its eighth year, the bookstore was created by owner Francine Lucidon who had spent the previous 18 years unschooling with her two book loving children. A desire to encourage and support the next generation of young book lovers prompted her to open the 1200 square foot store. When adjoining space became available in 2010, an Alice– like teashop seemed the perfect pairing. The store has now doubled in size, offering a space for parties, writing workshops and larger events.
Meet the Business Owner
Francine L.
Business Owner
With a background of many years in public relations, Francine Lucidon left the world of paid employment to share her days with her two unschooled children. Learning alongside her book loving kids she spent countless hours in libraries, museums and bookstores. She continues to share the joy she found in such exploration with the wonderful young people who come to her store. Her clear message to families; slow down, engage, enjoy, is very much a part of the experience of visiting The Voracious Reader.
