Description

Specialties

The Lazy Gardener designs exterior spaces and gardens for those who want a beautiful garden without having to hire a full time groundskeeper. With proper planning, your property will look harmonious throughout the year, in every season.

Pond, waterfall, pool and spa, rain garden installation and hardscape design and construction such as walkways, patios, decks and walls are also available from our trusted network of contractors.

For those who want to be a less lazy gardener, we offer organic gardening and pruning lessons, as we believe in using only organic weed and pest controls.

Landscape design company serving Lower Westchester, NY and Southeast CT

History

Established in 2005.

The Lazy Gardener started as a cable tv program, showcasing seasonal tips and organic methods for home gardeners.

In 2007 the company transitioned to designing beautiful gardens, patios and water features for private and municipal properties.

With a background in advertising and graphic design, Catherine Wachs, owner of The Lazy Gardener, found that landscape design drew on her creative skills in similar ways.

«The Lazy Gardener is not me, they’re my clients,» says Catherine. «We use unfussy plants that require minimal care, so you can enjoy your yard more and toil less.» She adds, «there’s always weeding, though.»

Catherine W.

Business Owner

Catherine Wachs, Landscape Designer & Owner of The Lazy Gardener.

After a career in advertising design, Catherine became interested in organic gardening after moving to Larchmont in 1993.

She joined the Sheldrake Environmental Center, working in the Mamaroneck School District as a naturalist educator, teaching children and adults about the natural world and our responsibility for taking care of it. After 3 years, Catherine took the helm of the Sheldrake naturalist educator program, recruiting and teaching new naturalists.

Catherine studied landscape design at the New York Botanical Gardens in the Gardening Certificate Program, the NYBG’s equivalent of a Cooperative Extension’s Master Gardener.

Catherine explains, «The same design principles used to craft images for corporate advertising apply to landscape design. There’s a story to every property– the image the owner wants to project to the world. Now, instead of print and television images, my media are plants.»
