welcome to the home of the delicious famous «olive burger» its been serving the lansing area since 1923 ran by the same family. We have Breakfast with omelettes, breakfast burrittos, the famous downtown skillet. Lunch we offer homemade soups and fresh green salads, wonderful sandwiches anywhere from meat eaters to veggie lovers. lunch specials ran daily we offer take out and dine in with nothing but the best customer service! come check us out and have lunch on our patio if its nice out! we look forward to seeing u soon!

History

Established in 1923.

Kewpee’s was origanlly started in Flint MI by two gentleman which lead to other opportunities through out the mid west. This one in Lansing was origanlly in East Lansing which moved to Downtown Lansing on Shiwasse st where LCC is with a drive thru it was open 24 hours (it didnt even have a lock on the door). LCC was growing so they purchased the building and relocated to its current location @118 S. Washington Sq since than we have been serving up the best burgers in the original paper wraps since than and continue to do so for as long as Lansing is hungry. There are other Kewpee’s but they are all a little different we specialize in the Olive Burger its a sauce we make everyday. We are lucky to have loyal loving customers that have been coming here for decades also staff that has been with us for decades as well. Come try us out!

I’m Autumn I’m the fourth generation here at Kewpee’s. I was lucky enough to end up where i dreamed of as a kid, i always wanted to work with my dad and now I’m working side by side with him. I love family business as hard as it can be at times its all worth it! I love my customers and i love making people happy. I look forward to meeting u soon.

I forgot how great it is! Cherry burger, King olive, grilled cheese, shrimp taco special — incredible! The fries were crisp, the fried mushrooms (with ranch) were awesome. The staff was friendly and very attentive. Certainly come for the burgers, but don’t ignore the special creations on the specials board. Gary Weston has created some very tasty dishes.

Hands down one of the tastiest burgers in town (and also the cheapest! A regular-​sized burger is like $ 3.50) I just had my first olive burger experience at Kewpee this afternoon and uhhhh YEP. I’ll be back! Super quick service and our waitress was really friendly. They also have a breakfast menu which I’m curious to try. If you’re in the area and want a cheap, quick, dank meal: go here!

This place may not look like much but it is so much more than meets the eye! This place is in hidden away in Lansing near the capital so you may go years in the area without finding it. Once you do, I promise it will become one of your favorites! Their specialty is the Olive Burger, a yummy hamburger with a generous portion of a mayo and green olive mixture. For just a few ingredients, this burger brings the flavor. If that’s not your thing though, get a classic burger. They are so juicy and you can add cheese and your favorite toppings from tomato, lettuce, or grilled onions and mushrooms. Don’t stop there though. Get the onion rings or fries. The onion rings here are the most perfect onion rings that you will ever have. Honestly, you will leave this place one happy person no matter what you get!

They would have started with five stars because of memory alone. I used to love this place. They lose a star for having a TV in the dining area (with a soap opera on!)
I was pleased when I checked in that a Unilocal!coupon popped up, $ 1 off a King Olive Burger. I had already ordered a Kolossal Olive Burger (which costs $ 2 more than a King). The waitress had no idea what I was showing her, and had to take my phone to the manager, who declined to honor it. Fine. Uncool. Costs a star.
Oh well, the burger was like the girls in Paul Simon’s song «Kodachrome.»: «they’d never match my sweet imagination…» It was fine, and but for the sauce Five Guys is better (their fries definitely are).
I’m glad to have been able to bring my son there. He loved his plain cheeseburger, onion rings, and freshly-​made shake.
Now I’m done. I haven’t been to Lansing in 30 years, and won’t feel bad if I don’t ever get back again. I’d been reminiscing about a Kewpee burger for so long, and I’m finally over it.

Great old school, family-​owned and operated, local burger and sandwich joint. Has more a family restaurant feel than a diner feel, but the food is more diner than family restaurant (in a really good way). Nothing fancy by any means — and it would be weird if it was. Simple, down-​to-​earth menu featuring an olive burger as the house specialty. I’m not a fan of olives, so I go for the cherry burger (combination of ground beef and Michigan cherries — lower fat but still with great flavor) or one of the sandwich options. Fast, friendly service. Food comes out quickly and with no frills. Burgers are served wrapped in parchment paper that opens up and turns into your placemat. Great place for a quick and delicious lunch in downtown Lansing and a nice alternative to the chains and «fast food» places.

I got the classic king olive burger. Basically it is a good beef patty on a good bun with lettuce and a BOAT load of the mayo-​olive spread. They really pile it on. I don’t like olives and this burger was good but it was a little too heavy with the mountain of mayo (with some olives in it). I gave it a solid 4 stars just because the people there were great and the owner was walking around (yes, even at his age. something like 90 I heard?!) greeting people and asking how everything was and taking finished dishes out of people’s way. He really does love his business and I really appreciate that. I think I will go back for something other than the olive burger but I definitely will be going back.

Best Olive Burgers in town! Possibly the best in Michigan! Fast, friendly staff and really good prices. Whenever I get to downtown Lansing, I have to stop in for an Olive Burger or an O’Grady (an open-​faced burger drenched in homemade chili and cheese) I always add onions and a side of ranch. Plus a root beer! So damn good!
Great, now I’m hungry! If you’ve never been to Kewpee’s, you should definitely check them out! They have take-​out service, too. Oh, their soups and fries are yummy too! I could go on and on!!!

This restaurant reminds me of a local family restaurant, in a good way. It has the feeling of a comfortable and cozy local place. While I was waiting for my order, the table next me to greeted friends that they ran into. The older gentleman behind me sat down and ordered without looking at the menu. There seems to be a good local following.
Despite the busy lunch hour, the waitress greeted us immediately, took and brought drink orders to the table. I had never tried an olive burger so I gave it a try. I ordered the olive spread on the side so I could control the amount I put on my burger. The olive spread was not what I had imagined, it was a mix of diced green olives and mayo. I liked that they offered three different sizes for the burger. It was nice to get a lunch size burger that was not overwhelming. The patty was also clearly made in house. The patty came on a pretty standard bun with lettuce and tomato. In retrospect, I should have asked about adding onions and having the bun toasted. The patty itself was a little bit dry. Overall, the burger was good, the olive spread added a different flavor, but not amazing. The sides are a separate order and I had a small side of fries. The were also good, hot and crispy. The prices were also reasonable for the food.

I can see why this place has lasted as long as it did, they say they thrive their service on being very prompt and yes, we were served very quickly even though the place was packed and the waitresses were running around like crazy people.
My sister and I got two King sized burgers — which are about the size of a whopper. I got the Deluxe, which included olive sauce, lettuce and tomatoes and she got got a regular with regular burger fixings. Now, this was my first time trying olive sauce and it was a strong taste for me, because I’m not accustomed to eating olives ever so I was a bit of surprise. The burger was still good, you could tell it was pattied by hand.
One of the main reasons I wanted to visit was for the fact I work at grocery store where they get a lot of their items from, and the owner told me they had a great burger (which is true) I had to come check it out!

My favorite olive burger in Lansing, and the precursor to my favorite chain in MI — Halo Burger. I can’t say enough good things about the burger or the onion rings, although I wish things like a toasted bun weren’t considered «extras». The coney special is also a good deal and falls somewhere between Flint and Detroit styles (leaning more towards the former, thank goodness). Beyond the burgers and dogs, you’ll find mostly standard diner fare. The major drawback? Hours! This a place that mainly serves the lunch crowd, so no evening or weekend burger runs here.

I grew up in Michigan and moved to San Diego in 1968. Whenever I come «home» the one place I have to go is to Kewpees for their olive burger. Olive burgers must be a Michigan thing because I have never seen it on any other menu anywhere. Kewpees has the best olive burger ever. Coming to Lansing this week and already planning on going to Kewpees Friday. Can’t wait

Been coming to this place off and on for about a decade. Love the olive burger, plenty of mayo… just as an olive burger should be, like every olive burger I have ever ate in numerous Michigan restaurants. So if you are not a fan of mayo, order a different burger. Place has some history and is very cosy on a Winter day. They have a small patio area, which seems nice… even though I did not sit outside. Oh yeah, onion rings and chili cheese fries compliment the olive burger.

Love this place. Family owned for a gazillion generations. Have been coming here since I was a wee little tyke… yes – a gazillion years ago. All the food is good, but the great without question is their olive burgers – a combination of juicy burger, lettuce and olive mayo. A Kewpee-​Lanisng original. Get the King olive burger with cheese. You will come back.
Thank goodness the Weston family have kept this local tradition going!

I lived in Lansing for about 3 years and i have to say. Kepee’s is a ok place but not great. It’s a place you might stop by if you really had no idea where to eat. Most likely you’d be ok with the food.
Pros:
1. Prices-​the prices are generous. Very generous. Some of the cheapest food you’ll find.
2. Burgers– the burgers are pretty darn tasty. I suggest the Mighican Cherry burger or Turkey. Good and simple.
3. Pancakes-​big portions, nice and fluffy.
Cons:
1. Taste-​the taste on the burgers is good but not great. The prices really are a double edge sword. Prices are cheap but it is reflected on the food.
2. Fries-​the fries are ok. There not cooked golden brown to perfection and served piping hot. They’re somewhat flavorless and taste a bit overcooked at times.
3. Chili-​again ok. The chili isn’t the best tasting thing you’ll have. It seems lack in spices and flavor. I used alot of pepper to make up for this.
Overall Kewpee’s is ok. I’m not saying it’s a bad place. But it definatley is not the best either. Just depends on what you order.
