Sparrow Hospital

When I was admitted to sparrow my appendix had burst at 4am. After 12 agonizing hours the doctors finally decided to operate. The nursing staff was the worst experience of my life. The surgical team botched the initial surgery going in with a scope and cause twice the scaring on my body. After the surgery I was on heavy drugs and without family or a lawyer present the nurses bullied me to sign documents. This hospital should be shut down.

Took a tumble down our basement stairs yesterday and since I had some bumps on my heaf, thought I’d better hit the ER. Hate the hospital as much as everyone else, but was so impressed by the staff here.
Wait was about 2 hours but that wasn’t surprising since it was memorial day. Waiting room was clean at least. The person that checked me in did a quick triage and immediately put me in a neck brace with helped with some of the pain.
After what felt like a million scans they informed me I had no damage from the fall but they had noticed an unrelated issue they wanted to check out further. More tests and that turned out to be just a cyst. I mention this because I really appreciated them picking up on that even though it wasn’t what they were looking for and for going ahead and doing some tests right then rather than making me wait a week and worry if they sent me back to get scheduled later with my regular doctor.
Overall a good experience and the cafeteria was still open ar 1am when we got released and my poor husband that had been stuck there all day with me got to eat. Also the staff was great about directing him to find me as they kept moving me around for tests. My husband and I both noticed how polite and professional the staff was, going out of their way to smile and make us comfortable.
Hope not to need their services again anytime soon, but it will take some of the stress out of being injured since I know I will be heading into good care in a clean and safe facility.

This is the worst hospital I’ve EVER been to. I took my son to the ER because they advertise that they are a pediatric hospital. Guess what? They have no pediatricians. The ER doctors were basically clueless and not very patient with my 9 month old. We had to go back to Urgent Care within 24 hours and I refused to go back here. Oh and they hassled me to pay for our visit on the way out at 1am. While I had a very sick crying baby. Needless to say I told them to F off and send me a bill. Hate them.

Not that they care about Unilocal,but this place has good care and horrible billing. They stopped me from having my baby 10 weeks early which was nice, but good Lord their billing department is a bunch of nin-​com-​poops. Still fighting with them 8 months later.
You suck Sparrow.

Be ready to be searched and scanned by security if entering the Emergency Room area. All of my bags and property were searched. I feel very violated by this.

Excellent care while I was here. My night nurse (Sam) was nothing short of patient, informative, kind, and on top of all my needs. Thank you Sparrow and thank you Sam!

Just a note — Sparrow has increased its parking fees to $ 3. Definitely bring some cash with you, because their ATM charges you ANOTHER $ 3 to take money out. I had to go in the other day for a Rhogam shot and was NOT pleased that I ended up spending $ 6 to get jabbed: P

OMG, my old stomping grounds. I went to the hospital twice for treatment and a couple more times cuz one of my roommate’s mom worked here and we’d come drop crap off for her. My most notable visit that I can mention on Unilocal,was coming in with a rash that turned into black and blue spots all over me. And it made me real sleepy. After numerous blood and urine tests and being hooked up to IV’s. All the could tell me was it was some viral infection and didn’t know what else to tell me. Minus a couple stars for being incompetent but the spots did disappear after medication and tanning sessions. This hospital is pretty easy to find but a long ass walk back towards campus. One of my roommates did it and it took him all morning. Corvallis in Oregon is in a smaller town and has nicer facilities than this danky ass outdated place. But I must not forget: I’m in the midwest. Land of danky dumps.

This is the area’s top hospital, no doubt about it. They just redid their Level I trauma center… which is run by an expert team! … and they have state of the art facilities.
I know several people who work here, and have gone to visit friends and family here as well. I’ve even had to be a patient myself, once. Each time, I have been impressed with the tact and efficiency of this hospital… they are truly professionals.
I would never consider going to Ingham… if you’re in need of medical help in the Lansing area, make Sparrow your first choice!

Loathe, fear and despise, doctors, nurses, hospitals and medical settings in general. Needles are the worst.
I scheduled a surgery with an overnight stay expecting to be treated just as poorly as the last time I went to a hospital. Sparrow is so different. The scheduling office and the floor manager went out of their way to accomodate some of my special needs while I was there and were really empathetic.
For the first time EVER, the nurses numbed the area where they put in the big IV needles before surgery and I got some happy drugs before I was even wheeled into the OR so it wasn’t so scary. I have no idea how I made it from the OR to my room. Pain control was great and the nurses and patient care techs are so friendly and wonderful. If you have to go to the hospital, this is the place to be.
One note. Sparrow’s billboards kind of imply that everyone who is an inpatient gets a private room. This is not necessarily true. Call admitting as soon as you know you are going to be in the hospital and request one.

I won’t lie, I hate going to the doctor. The words «emergency room» especially make me cringe. It conjures images of waiting for hours in a room full of sick people and trauma patients before being ushered to a table and a curtain where an impatient doc might pay attention to you… maybe.
But wow: Sparrow was great!
After an «incident» with a bat, the friendly local health department had explained to us that there had been a rash of rabid bats in this part of Michigan this summer. We were appropriately convinced to go get the vaccine.
This involves a shot in the arm followed by four in the rump, followed by four more over the course of the month. This doesn’t sound like a lot of fun for me, let alone for my needle-​phobe girlfriend who passes out at the sight of a syringe on television. I expected a really horrible night.
We walked into the ER, where we’d been directed. I was expecting a wait, but the RN doing triage greeted us immediately, took our information, and informed me that she’d checked us into «FastTrack», their convenient care. (The emergency room area for things that aren’t emergencies.)
We walked to FastTrack and we were greeted quickly and seated. Our insurance information was taken quickly, and soon a nurse retrieved us to take us back and get our stats. The private room was actually a room, not just a curtain, and had a TV in it.
Both the nurse and the physician assistant were wonderful: nice and very accommodating of my girlfriend’s needle phobia. The entire process was remarkably quick and painless.
I hate to think I might have to go back to the doctor, but if I did, I’d be happy to go back to Sparrow.

This hospital is great. Clean friendly.
The valet is out of this world.
On the third shift is a valet attendant named Brandon Bordner.
He is so cool and thoughtful.
I was having problems with my car and he went out of his way to help me out.
He is really cute, especially with his hort hair (i’ve seen him on two different occasions).
Girls check him out.
