Glazed & Confused

We walked in on a weekend morning to investigate the advertised gluten free donuts. In our party were two normal-​eaters and one person with celiac disease (thus, gluten free). There was no line and only about 5 people in the restaurant, so we had no problem walking up to the counter. We asked excitedly about the gluten free donuts. Apparently GF donuts aren’t available unless you pre-​order them in advance. The store offers no other gluten free breads or baked goods. As the vast majority of their (very) small menu is sandwiches, there was little a gluten free person could eat. This a bit of a bummer, but it happens. We ordered ice tea, but were informed they don’t have ice tea. We settled for water and placed our order for one Java-​the-​Hut donut (seen in the window), a yogurt parfait with fruit only (no granola — so GF), and one soufflé sandwich. Then, we tried to pay. They don’t accept American Express. Ok, fine. We paid in cash, collected our donut (served on a wax paper lined 9×13 aluminum baking pan) and found a table.
In 15 min or so a very loud man from the kitchen emerged and yelled a number. Since we were not given a receipt, we weren’t sure what the number meant– but as we were the only people eating, we figured he meant us. What emerged from the kitchen was a small soufflé sandwich on an identically large baking pan. The small sandwich looked meager and lonely on what seemed like a giant tray — no side, no garnish. While I typically don’t place a lot of value on presentation, this was pretty bad. We continued to wait for the yogurt parfait.
The members of our party with the donut and sandwich were able to finish their food entirely, while holding conversation. Still no yogurt. Eventually we approached the counter and asked if the parfait was coming. The young lady said «yes, it should be out soon» — then apparently thought again and went to the kitchen to check. She returned and told us they were out of yogurt, but were running next door to get more. She apologized. We told her we would forego the yogurt, but she insisted, «well you already paid,» she said. We gave in and returned to our seats confused. What would have happened if we had not gone up to check on our order? Were they ever going to tell us they were out of yogurt? It’s not as if the kitchen staff were busy — they only had one sandwich to make (ours — since we were the only ones eating — and that came out ages ago)? After waiting so long, we were a bit baffled by the lack of follow up.
Again, we waited. Eventually, a man from the kitchen came to our table to tell us they were out of yogurt (given his outfit, I’m guessing he was the head chef). I guess the running next door thing didn’t happen. We said it was fine. He asked if he could prepare anything else; we declined. He said, «at least let me get your change.» Since we had paid for something we never received, we were pleased with the chance to get our money back. So, we waited.
Although we saw the chef puttering around in the kitchen and walking around the restaurant, he never returned to our table. After more waiting, a member of our party approached the counter and asked the attendant for our change. She gave us the money and we exited the store. Upon looking at the change, we realized we were given incorrect change. Although we were shorted — it wasn’t a lot — and all we wanted to do was get out of there.
Honestly, if any one of those things had been the only problem, we would have been fine. Any one problem would have been a quirk or an off day — but the seemingly false advertising, the lack of options on the menu, the poor diversity of beverages, the lack of customer service, the poor communication, and refusal to accept certain credit cards were, collectively, a bit ridiculous. In addition, I’m not certain what would have happened if we had never checked on the parfait or if we’d never gone to the counter to ask for our money back. Although the chef was very friendly, the overall service was lacking, and the follow through was abysmal.
This restaurant does very few things — and they don’t do them quickly or with proficient customer service. While the food we actually received was quite good, we won’t return. The food isn’t enough to offset the fact that the business itself is very poorly run. The restaurant isn’t any better than some of the others, and there isn’t enough variety to make the trip worth it. You can get good (in fact, even better) food elsewhere, and with much better service. With so many restrictions and such trouble handling a single order in an otherwise empty restaurant — if this place doesn’t get itself together, I’d be shocked if it’s still around in 2 years.

Opened in August 2015 and hadn’t been in yet. Sold out of Paczki’s early afternoon on Fat Tuesday so looks like people know what’s up over here!
Decided to get a sandwich and coffee after being welcomed in from behind the counter. «Happy Elvis» was Peanut Butter, Banana and Bacon on some thick white Texas Toast. Pretty cool and I sort of wish ALL the sandwiches they offered were more «experimental» or «gastro» I guess… it was at least the most exciting one to me, but had plenty veggie options as well. Sandwiches looked like they were all $ 7 served with house made chips and garlic aioli, which were awesome by the way!
Overall satisfied but will certainly have to return to indulge in some of their donuts. I’m really glad this place is open; they cater, host events and surely take orders in advance.

This urban bakery is a great addition to downtown Lansing. We arrived at 7:15am on a Wednesday morning and had no issues walking right up to order. We had the crème brûlée donut, raspberry cheesecake donut, and two soufflé sandwiches. The donuts were both crème filled and messy. For being aimed at the business people working in downtown Lansing, I would have liked the crème to be a little thicker so it wasn’t such a messy treat before work. Overall, the donuts were delicious, but overpriced at $ 2 a pop.
The soufflé sandwich, however, was delicious. Gouda, arugula, fluffy egg, and toasty brioche. The best part was the interesting addition of a touch of mustard. We will come back just to try other sandwiches!
UPDATE 2÷6÷16: Today’s visit was underwhelming at best. The cashier was awkward and uneducated on the menu. We ordered the soufflé sandwiches and they were served on soggy, sliced wheat bread. Seriously?! One of my fave parts about the soufflé sandwich was the brioche bread. If you’re out of brioche, you should probably let your customers know so they aren’t paying $ 4.50 for a soggy sandwich. We won’t be visiting again.

OH MY GOD! This place is a great addition to the area and the doughnuts… If your mouth could have an orgasym this place would do it. Absolutely amazing doughnuts, get the hotflash, the mix of sweet and spicy is phenomenal.

I enjoyed it very much when I was in town! Good donuts and friendly service. I grabbed the original glazed and a coffee before walking to see the Capitol.
In Chicago we have a place called Glazed and Infused and the donut I had here was just as good if not better.
I told my mom (she works at Sparrow) to grab some and bring their donuts to work! Kudos, guys!

This place is a welcome addition to the Lansing downtown area. My wife and I were very excited when we saw their «coming soon» sign and were eager to try them out.
The first opportunity came when I needed to bring something for a morning meeting with a client. I ordered a healthy amount with at least two of most of the donuts they had that morning. I was very happy with the variety offered and my client was most excited when they saw the box and all the varieties were well-​received.
Additionally, their lunch menu looks very tasty and I hope to try out some of those offerings soon.
What keeps me from giving a full 5 starts are one minor thing and one not so minor item. Let’s work from the smaller to larger.
The minor issue I have is the general flow of the line when ordering. Unless you are very familiar with what all the current options are, or you are only looking to get a single item, you don’t get an easy visual reference. When you get in line, you can see all of the items clearly. But as you get to the register where you make your order, you can no longer see all of the signs/​tags and now there are likely several people behind you, so it is difficult to go back to the front of the case to either confirm the names or point out your selections. If they would either use signs/​tags that can be easily seen from the register area or would take your order while you are in front of the case, it would make ordering easier and possibly quicker.
The major issue I have is the lack of attention on behalf of the counter staff. My order was a mixed dozen and a half. They read off my order as they handed it to me as a final confirmation. It sounded correct and I went to grab some napkins. I noticed that the box felt a little light. I put it down, did a count, and found I was six donuts short. When I brought my order back up, they quickly corrected it.
I felt a little put off by this incident, heightened by the fact that I was not the only one this happened to while I was there. If they are going to read out the order to confirm it is correct, they should also be doing a final confirmation of what they packaged as well. Had I not noticed, I wouldn’t have found out until I was with my client. It also made it take longer to get out of there, not only for me, but all other customers as they had to wait for my and other orders to be corrected. I chalk this up to them being fairly busy and in general having fairly new staff getting used to the flow. Hopefully these incidents decrease as they get into their groove.

This bakery is definitely a place to check out. Small selection of donuts but once you see what kinds they have you won’t know what to decide on. A big bonus for me is that they order in gluten-​free donuts. I ended up ordering a plain glazed cake donut while my cousin ordered the raspberry cheesecake donut. She was not disappointed and neither was I. Best time to go is between 8 – 9 because I heard the rush that comes in is usually around 10am and then there are no donuts left. They also are decently priced either $ 1 or $ 2 and they have affordable coffee to go with it. This place has limited seating so it’s more of a pick up and go type of bakery but if you’re in Lansing you need to make a pit stop here!

My husband ordered honey cake for our son’s birthday.
$ 40 for a simple sponge and butter cream cake is very expensive.
Taste is not bad but nothing special.
Our son did not really like it either.
We won’t go back.

Very fun and comfy place… I triec the breakfast sandwhich, it was fresh and tastey. it did not have any egg on it though, the coffee was very good, and free refills.
I also got a cranberry/​white choclate scone to go… holy cow! Its the best scone i have ever had… prices are decent, everything homemade… yum.

I liked it. I have to admit I don’t see why the hype is so massive. The donuts are good, but nothing spectacular. If to be compared to Glazed and INfused in Chicago, no comparison.

Small and cute. They offer nice selections in many varieties throughout the season. They are very reasonably priced for their customization. A half dozen speciality donuts for $ 10 is good to me.
The creams and icings are not too sweet. The yeast donuts are soft fluffy delights. The cake donuts are denser sensations. They are definitely made by hand daily, with love. They make them with décor in mind as well as taste. I’d like to try them warm. I ordered my donuts and they kept them waiting for me an hour after my pickup time. All of the flavors were true to their descriptions. There weren’t many pastries or donuts on display but I imagine it’s because they were all bought.
My issues are with the hours. It doesn’t jive with 9 – 5’ers who live/​work/​play outside downtown Lansing. I’d like more accommodating hours. Also when I arrived the two people working were helping one girl decide which donuts she wanted. No one acknowledged me until I interrupted after I realized the patron didn’t know what she wanted. Also there were 2 other people waiting. One left so I believe they lost a customer because they didn’t know how to distribute themselves to all patrons.

This is an awesome new discovery. I stopped by this morning after hearing about it from a friend. The atmosphere was great, it was clean, trendy and inviting. It’s obvious that the owners take pride in their space.
The donuts were great. At least the ones I tried. I was most impressed with the peanut butter cup one. Completely out of this world. I like that the selection isn’t over the top, they have a few really great specialty donuts and a few tried and true ones. In my opinion it’s all about quality, not quantity.
The service was prompt and friendly. It’s great to start the morning with friendly people, fresh coffee and great donuts.
I’d recommend adding some cream cheese Danishes or a cream cheese Danish meets a donut type of invention. Since I’m on a roll with a wish list, a pumpkin bread donut filled with spiced cream cheese would also be fun since fall is approaching.
The only thing keeping this place from 5 stars is not having espresso or something a little stronger then coffee. I think with how sweet donuts are a really strong espresso would offer a great balance.
I would certainly visit this place again and take friends here.

Today I was finally able to get a donut from Glazed and Confused! And I am very glad.
I bought one Turtle donut. See photo. My friend had the Raspberry Cheesecake Donut. She said it was delicious, not too sweet, and the flavors were layered so that the culinary enjoyment was beyond imaginable.
Friendly service. They are open on Saturdays from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Excited for an artisan bakery to be open downtown! This place is walkable from my office.
I went this morning around 10AM and had great customer service. I misspoke and accidentally ordered something that I was allergic to. The staff was great and let me swap out for another item. They treated my food allergy very seriously and even used a fresh bag for my order.
As far as their food, I found the donuts too sugary for my taste. But their coffee cake is delicious!

I find it pretty unfair to give this place such a low rating this early on in the game. I understand people’s frustration of not being open on Sundays, or being out of donuts, but hey — this place hasn’t even been open for a month, and if they’re selling out of donuts this frequently — they must be doing something right!
Give these guys a break — if they had expected to be this busy and to have this demand right off the bat, I’m sure they would have been more prepared. Personally, I’m happy for them to have done so well already and that they’ve been so busy. Perhaps a little inconvenient to curious patrons, but people need to learn how to be patient.
Okay, now onto my personal review:
I stopped in there this morning, not really knowing what to expect. I had heard they’ve been selling out of donuts fast, so I was ready to be greeted by a locked door or a line halfway down the sidewalk. Instead, my wait was only about 10 minutes from the time I walked in to the time I got my donuts. I must have gotten lucky. And I’ve got to give a lot of credit to the staff working — they were running around working their butts off, but they all seemed to maintain a positive and cheerful attitude the whole time. I would imagine they were stressed out, but they didn’t show it. That alone goes a long way for a business, in my opinion. I got a cup of coffee, and the original donut and the turtle donut. I tried half of each, and was beyond impressed. These guys know how to make a terrific donut!
I’m definitely coming back. I’ll wait awhile though, to give other people a chance to try it, so they can stop their complaining. Give these guys a break, everyone. Be patient, let them have time to iron out the kinks in between constantly having to cook up more donuts! I promise, by the time you get to the front of the line, you won’t be disappointed.

The bakery is cute, the donuts were good and worth the extra $. The staff, in my opinion, is where the bakery is lacking.
The 5 flavors I purchased for the office were: Turtle, Smore, Peanut Butter, Red Velvet, and Maple Bacon. They are a hit and everyone was excited about the unique flavors and gourmet look. It was ~$ 66 for 3 dozen donuts — not terrible pricing, in my opinion.
I called Tuesday afternoon to place an order of 3 dozen donuts to be picked up the next morning (3 hours after they opened). They had a list of flavors on their website, but I logically assumed that they weren’t baking all flavors every day. So I asked. The girl on the phone told me what flavors they wouldn’t have, so I ordered 3 flavors that she said would be in stock. The next morning when I arrived to pick up my order, only 12 of my 36 donuts were boxed. Turns out, 2 of the flavors that I ordered were seasonal and the chef’s weren’t baking them. Okay… I understand the menu being changed. However, someone clearly started boxing my order and realized they weren’t going to be able to fill it. Did I receive a phone call? No. Was there a note on my order? No. Instead, I had to hold up the entire line while they hand picked another 24 donuts out of what was in stock. I probably jipped someone behind me out of a donut, and it totally defeated the purpose of calling my order in ahead of time. On top of all this, there were 4 girls working — only 1 of whom was actually doing anything.
This place has what it takes to succeed in office-​dominated downtown Lansing, but I truly hope that the staff organization and training is kicked up a notch. If it isn’t, they’re going to lose business from those who don’t have time to wait and don’t have patience for mistakes.

Small overpriced donuts that were just okay. Slowwwwwww. The long wait was due to the very slow cashier who took forever to ring people up. Who knew it was so complicated to ring up one donut.

This bakery just opened this week, Wednesday in fact, so it is still working out some glitches, but overall it seems to be great.
We got there at 8:30 am (they had opened at 8) and there was a line out the door that didn’t seem to be letting up even as we left.
The line moved somewhat slowly, but we had our doughnuts within a half hour, and they were well worth the wait. The staff was handing out samples of all different kinds of pastries to people in line as we waited, and they requested that people keep their orders to six doughnuts as they wanted everyone to be able to get something. They had apparently run out very early the first and second days they were open, so they’re adapting.
At some point I’d like to try the rest of the menu — breakfast sandwiches, the lunch menu, etc.
My only con is that they are closed on Sundays, which seems to be a pattern in Lansing bakeries for some reason. Close Mondays for god’s sake!

It’s pretty dickish to give this place a poor rating because it is new and popular.
My girlfriend and I ordered a Trifecta and a Raspberry Cheesecake, both were excellent.
The Trifecta is a chocolate cake donut with ganache. The cake is dense and has a faint note of dark chocolate bitterness. It’s exactly what I want a chocolate cake donut to be.
The Raspberry Cheesecake reminds me of a beignet from Café du Monde. If you are looking for a gooey filling the color of crimson cough syrup, try the Meijer Bakery (which sucks). The filling is light, airy, and a perfect balance to it’s yeasty vessel.
Most notable, their confections aren’t excessively sweet. I don’t know anything about their ingredient sourcing, but my guess this is thanks in part to the absence of corn syrup and industrial icing.
They have been deducted one star for two reasons:
They are going to have to up their coffee game. I appreciate the effort to support Lansing jobs by serving Paramount Coffee, but upscale sweets deserve a better brew.
Also, what is the deal with bakeries in Lansing not opening on Sundays? (Said in Seinfeld voice) If there is one day in a week I want to sit with a pastry, the news, and coffee someone else made, it’s a Sunday.
And, let’s be honest, a donut and coffee is a more worthy sacrament than the shitty communion wafer and watered down Franzia you get at Church.
I look forward to returning for lunch, the Meatloaf Sandwich in particular sounds enticing.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to purchase anything because… well because they were out of everything, not a great note to start on for a business that has been open for 2 days.
I understand that the first day they got rushed and were sold out in 15mins, but going forward you should be able to forecast higher production needs.
I tried stopping in at 8am, 90mins after they opened, and yet again sold out… And told to come back in 2hrs…
Oh well, I guess I can imagine what it all tastes like.
