NOTKIDFRIENDLY… Servers to busy posting on social media to actually wait on tables, Food not that great, Dairy Queen would have been better.

Worst service ever. Food was mediocre and not worth the wait. Spent 30 minutes on a Sunday before we were even greeted. Yes they were a little busy but you don’t constantly walk by and ignore guests when they try to get your attention. Won’t ever go back.

Fantastic cheeseburger made with 3 sisters organic beef. Delisiosous. On another review a customer only gave 1 star because they asked their children to behave and quiet down. wonderful… finally other people who want to sit and enjoy their meal and talk with their friends can do so without annoying noises from unruly children. Thank you Neil for sticking up for adults who already raised kids that behave.

Not kid friendly! We were told to leave when my 2 year old grandchild made a small amount of normal child noise. We paid for our half eaten food and will never return! This used to be a great place to take the entire family to dine, not any more!!! P. S. the wait staff are friendly the food is mediocre and the prices are a bit high for what you get!!!

Every time I order from this place I always end up asking myself the same question: why the hell did I order from here again?! Not only is the food subpar, but it’s overpriced as well. Getting something to go? Beware the surcharge for every container in the order, ridiculous. The only redeeming quality is that the staff is pleasant. Your money and taste buds will thank you for dining at any other restaurant in the bayview area.

Mom and I were checking out a few potential wedding venues on Whidbey Island last Saturday. We’re strapped for cash and had packed our own lunches, but we were in desperate need of coffee so we stopped here. The gal in charge couldn’t have been nicer. I was embarrassed to be stopping at a diner(we thought, from the sign, it was more like a café) for only two cups of coffee… and talked ourselves into ordering a slice each of the apple and cherry pies as well. The coffee was excellent, as were the pies– homemade crust, not gloppy nor overly sweet(in fact, the cherry was a bit tart!) and overall delicious. I’m not in Langley much, but the next time I am I’ll definitely swing in and try their other offerings.

Excellent breakfast menu and service A PLUSPLUS. Sugar free syrup for pancakes to help with controlled diet for my guest. I had ham, eggs, breakfast potatoes, rye toast. Large servings.

This place used to be a gem on South Whidbey. They just renovated. The place looks nicer, and the food is the same. Unfortunately, the place seems unable to handle the increased volume(a lot more seating space now). Maybe they didn’t increase kitchen size while increasing the seating? We came for breakfast on a Sunday. After we ordered, it was an hour and 15 min before our food came. And everyone in the restaurant was mumbling about the wait time between ordering and receiving food. I hope they work out this kink in the system, since they won’t stay busy if the wait is so long.

Best damn Crab Louis Salad I have eve had. I’ve been coming here for years and have lived on Whidbey twice. The waitstaff is great and so is the food. I honestly have never had a bad experience here. Spending the weekend w my love and we are headed to Neil’s for dinner and yes, we are both getting the Crab Louis Salad! Can’t wait!!! It’s been way too long.

yeah, it’s a diner. However, the bread for the sandwich should not be stale. The dressing for the salad should not be so sharp you don’t want to eat it. I wasn’t l ooking for gourmet, just a quick palatable bite. Didn’t get it.

We went there after a long weekend looking for breakfast but was after noon so we both had Neil’s burger sandwich, soup and fries. Both soups were amazing and homemade the sandwiches were amazing and the service was great! It is a diner and local place but we were treated like locals. Food was hot and served quickly. Definitely will go back when on the island! If your looking for fancy city food stay in the city this is just good olé home cooked food with hometown service!

Their liver and onions are wonderful! But I wish the light level wasn’t so high. There’s no ambiance at all.

This is very decent diner food at very reasonable prices. Where else can you get an old fashioned hot roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy? Nice big tables… good place to read the paper and relax.

Sorry to say but the quality of food has declined horribly. Waited nearly an hour after ordering. .food was inedible. poached eggs hard as rocks… hollandaise had curdled. Server was super… we are locals. but will not go back soon. Neil you need to review quality control. Maybe fewer specials and improve those you do best.

Remember, it’s an island diner. It’s not a corporate clean diner nor a healthy kitchen diner but an old fashioned«we cook perhaps too much but try our best» type of diner. All of your diner menu favorites are available. The staff is friendly, sassy and at times scattered. Do they talk too much at times, yes — but that is what makes us nostalgic for old time diners. Anyway, the main part of your dish will be good but the sides are neglected. Most especially the vegetables. Neil, if I may suggest and if you ever read this, stop having your staff overcook your vegetables. Serve more local beers and wines and for goodness sake — keep up the good work.

Prime rib and horse radish were tasty. But after I ate 2⁄3 of mine a chipped dinner plate was revealed. Chip was ¾ inch long. Lemonade was watery. And plastic table cloth was sticky. Never again.

I’ve been to Neil’s a few times recently, and though I try to manage my expectations to match the place(knowing its not high-end fine dining), it still is disappointing. Breakfast was okay, but the potatoes are pretty plain and I kept having to get up to ask for stuff from the waitress – ketchup, napkins, more coffee – even though I was one of only three tables in the place. I went their more recently for dinner. I had the meatloaf with the standard sides and a salad; I asked for the gravy on the side. I had higher expectations I guess because Neil’s boasts using local beef. The salad was okay. When the meal came, I first tasted the gravy and was glad it was on the side. I was basically salt with a few other things to make it appear like gravy. It was inedible. The meatloaf tasted sweet(tomato paste?) and salty(probably from more salt), but it did not taste at all like meat – they could have used dog food mixed with sawdust for all that it would have mattered to the taste of the meal. The part of the meal I think I enjoyed the most was the side of carrots and the mashed potatoes, sans gravy. There are not all that many food choices on Whidbey that are worth visiting, but even with that, I don’t think I’ll be heading back to Neil’s anytime soon, unless by some strange fate, my family doctor says I’m dangerously deficient in salt and need to load up! (On a side note, another reviewer gave Neil’s four stars, but also gave Gordon’s four stars. It’s their review, fine, but that is like saying the Titanic and an inner tube are both boats.)

My rating isn’t based on the«ambiance» of the place… It a good place to eat without spending a lot of $$. Breakfast is always good, lunch is always good… had a few dinners that I wasn’t excited about but hey I’ve been there a lot! The staff is friendly and do a good job keeping you taken care of. Oh and the bloody marys are the best on the south end, we actually did a test one day… Not a fancy place but you can actually take a family of 4 out without breaking the bank.

five words for you: dungeness crab and cheddar omelette. it will rock your effing world, my friends. okay, okay. so neil’s probably reminds you of the place your grandparents would take you for breakfast. it’s decidedly retro without trying to be. but it’s delicious and reasonable and chock full of personality. and hello? dinner comes with free bread pudding. how can you argue with that?
