History
Established in 2011.
A Little Slice of Wine Country in Central Ohio’s Backyard! That’s the way we like to think of our place. Where else can you go that is 45 minutes from much of Columbus and enjoy rolling vineyards, great wine, fun events, and a relaxing wine experience? The vineyards were established in 2007, and the winery was built in 2011. It is currently owned by the Coolidge family. The family spends many hours in the vineyards caring for the vines, and in the fall harvests the grapes and begins the winemaking process. RockSide also brings in some fruit from California to make wines from grapes that just cannot be grown well in Ohio’s climate. Winemaking at RockSide follows traditional methods that have been used for thousands of years. Wine is made in small, hand crafted batches, and only bottled when it is ready. The result are great wines made mostly from Ohio fruit.
Meet the Business Owner
Robin C.
Business Owner
Robin Coolidge is winemaker at Wyandotte and Rockside wineries. Robin has made wine since the year 2000 when he was bitten by the wine bug during a trip to California’s Napa Valley. After returning home Robin began to learn about the winemaking process and experimented on family and friends as he honed the craft. In 2005 as he was looking for a way to start his own business he learned from friends that Wyandotte Winery in Columbus was up for sale. Robin and his wife Valerie purchased Wyandotte Winery in November 2006. In November of 2014, almost exactly 8 years later, Valerie and Robin purchased Rockside Winery and Vineyards in Lancaster, Ohio.
Robin’s previous career was in Information Technologies and he spent 25 years successfully helping companies develop, install, and run their computer systems. He has a Bachelors Degree from Capital University in Computer Sound Engineering.
When he is not making wine Robin enjoys playing the cello and composing music.
