Noodle King

Not sure why the negative reviews on this place. Went here with a friend and it was great. The phở was good. Maybe not the best I’ve ever had, but it was very good. The spring rolls were good and tasted fresh. Would return. Hope this place makes it.

Very disappoint in phone service. Called to place an order for pick up and was informed menu online is not correct menu. This was explained after a good 2 – 3 minutes going back and forth with person on the other line. Person on phone line seemed to be very confused as to what I was asking. All I wanted was a chicken and rice platter with fried rice instead of the white rice that comes with it. I understand there would be an up charge for that request however her response would be they would charge me the cost of the kids order, an additional $ 5.00 although I wouldn’t be getting the white rice. Made no sense to me I would understand an additional few dollars but charging me full price for another order is ridiculous. I think the most frustrating part was the person on the other line who appeared to be very confused and used the word «like» 5 – 6 times in a sentence.

Three times I’ve been here, and I have tried three different dishes, and the food has been excellent. The phò is both filling and tasty, the curry is spicy and flavorful, the marinated steak was cooked exactly as I like it, and the service was attentive and efficient. I have greatly enjoyed eating there on all 3 occasions, and intend to make it a regular stop in my travels.

So DISAPPOINTED. BLAND BLAND BLAND. I tried every thing to add some flavor to my Bun Bo Hue. Nothing worked. Save your time and most importantly your money. The service was great but it doesn’t make up for the taste.

Whoever took my order over the phone is severely incompetent. I will wait for the Duke Street location to reopen in August before I eat here again.

Excellent and pleasant service highlighted this enjoyable visit. During our entire meal, the server was friendly and provided valued insight into both the history of the restaurant and menu selections. We were originally skeptical as another local Vietnamese restaurant has one if not the best vermicelli salads we ever tasted. However, the delicious fare at Noodle King made us question our loyalties, especially since getting at table here at noodle King is a breeze relatively.
The food: pork and egg roll vermicelli salad was great. made with exceedingly fresh greens, yummy noodles, crunchy and homemade egg roll. Pork was flavorful but on the fatty side (plus for me, not for the spouse).
Phở had great broth and plenty of fresh, yummy veggies.
Great meal will def eat here again.

I had high hopes for this place but, for the most part, it didn’t live up to them.
The server was nice, if not a little pushy about trying to build some business, and specifically requested a Unilocal review… so here goes.
Service: Attentive, bordering on intrusively so at times. She pronounced much of the menu and sauces incorrectly (hoisin rhymed with poison) and presented familiar things as though we would not be familiar with them… like Sriracha.
Food: We ordered spring rolls first. Of the four of us, two of us weren’t able to finish them. Those who did called them bland, the other two of us detected a taste we weren’t used to in Vietnamese spring rolls and didn’t like it. (It wasn’t the cilantro.)
The calamari I can’t comment on directly, but my family said it was ok. It looked pretty good. They said it was a little rubbery at times, but no major complaints. The server came over and proudly announced that the calamari was fresh, which was a little jarring. That’s a standard, not a feature!
Finally, the egg rolls. Ok, these were good! Of the things we had, these may be the only thing we would return for.
Environment: The décor is nice. Easy to be there.
And, while I feel bad saying this so publicly, right now, this restaurant isn’t getting it right. They’re in a tough location, but one that has a lot of potential. But they’d have to be able to compete with the ultimate heavy-​hitter in Vietnamese cuisine in this area, Rice & Noodles.
Right now, they aren’t even close.
They do seem to care about the food and the business, though, so I hope things turn around.

Really wanted this place to work. Selfishly I wanted it to work because I live and work nearby! Tried 3 times. Will not be trying a 4^th. Great interior but poor service and bland food. May go back when I hear a new cook is on board.

Worst excise for Vietnamese food I’ve ever experienced! Got take away & should have taken it back!!!
