Four Reasons Bakery & Deli

Not bad for what it is. It’s fine for a small town but it would probably get eaten alive in a city. The sandwiches are fine… a little small (just regular size bread, not pannini size.) But they’re not expensive.
The tortellini salad was a disappointment at 2.99. Very small portion, under seasoned and overcooked, mushy pasta.
Certainly a fine option but nothing that stands out too much culinary wise.

Looking for lunch in all the wrong places… then Unilocal came through again… great place bordering on fantastic. .employees who really care about about you and your visit… food all home made and made to order… tried tuna .egg. and chicken salad on home made sour dough bread. very well done… oh and took home 3 different bakery items… only made it to car (parked right by the door) before «sampling «the goodies… lol…funny thing we go through lancaster every month. just now found a reason to stop.

Their ramen noodle salad is so good. Sweet and delicious. It’s a nice place to have a light healthy lunch. Love it.

Came for breakfast one morning after driving around town. Adorable little place. Got a sausage egg and cheese on a croissant. Amazing! So good. Also got a hot chocolate and a cinnamon roll. Terrible hot chocolate, tasted liked water and Hershey’s syrup. So bad. So sad. Cinnamon roll was okay, tasted like something mediocre from a grocery store. Not very fresh. But the sandwich was worth coming back for and very cheap! Wish we had been in town longer to try them for lunch. Will be back next time we are in town!

We were driving through the east end of Lancaster during late lunch time, and I was thinking of boring old chain restaurants to eat at. As we drove west on E. Main St, I saw Four Reasons Bakery, and remembered that we’ve been wanting to check it out.
We were lucky enough to get a parking spot on the street right out front and upon entry were greeted warmly. The interior is awesome. Beautiful exposed brick walls, high ceilings, and decorated like an upscale urban coffee shop. I almost forgot I was in Lancaster!
I ordered the corned beef reuben, and the wife chickened out and ordered the small caesar salad. My corned beef reuben was excellent and filled with plenty of meat and kraut. Luckily the wife ordered a small salad, because it was huge!
I guess I’m docking one star because you only get bagged Conn’s chips as a side with the sandwich combos. Being a deli, I wish they offered potato salad, etc… My other tip is no bottled water, if you order water, it’s from the self serve soda fountain.
I will return though, prices are cheaper than Penn Station, and I like to support local businesses.

Two thumbs up for this quaint deli. Fantastic suggestion, Unilocal!Right smack in the heart of old downtown Lancaster, this eatery has been around for quite some time. The architecture fits the cozy coffee shop esque feeling perfect. Super 14 – 15 feet ceilings. The side walls are brick. Ceiling and accents are mostly white or light colored paint. Plenty of lighting, but don’t worry about going blind. Paintings (yes, it’s all for purchase) are all over the walls by local artists.
You walk in, seating throughout the front half, bakery and deli counters in the middle. I like the giant chalkboard menu of sandwiches. The bakery section doesn’t need a «menu» — donuts, muffins, danishes, cupcakes are all make out front in glass casing.
Customers order at the counter, get a piece of plastic fruit (way cooler than the typical number), and you order is brought to you on a tray. I noticed the #15 (Chicken Melt), mouth started to juice, thus that was a pretty easy decision :) Chix salad, bacon, lettuce and tomato on toasted parmesan-​sourdough. I thoroughly dislike tough, hard bread, so I will admit I was a tad nervous what the end product would be.
I am elated with this sandwich-​and-​dill-​pickle-​on-​the-​side sammie! I’m pretty picky when it comes to chicken salad. I don’t do dill; two thumbs down for relish; I like the more plain-​jane versions. This one? SCORE! Several slithers of bacon (but it did not overshadow the meat mix). Deep red, soft and juicy tomato slice. And, a dill pickle spear on the side. Insert mental picture of lazing on a blanket, in a meadow, on a warm summer day. And the lightly toasted, cheese melted, thinly sliced bread only accented the sandwich, simply because it wasn’t a carb bust.
I shared a slice of their homemade carrot cake, and man! As we got down to the last couple of bites, I had to throw in my fork and call it quits. A strong, very yummy, carrot taste — a personal fav.
Great options for breakfast, lunch, even a late afternoon snack. My eye caught several other sandwich options that sound amazing, so I’ll definitely be back!

Came here from out of town and was recommended this page by a local. I had the pizza soup and Cobb salad and both were delicious. Wait staff was very friendly. ¹⁰⁄₁₀ with rice, would eat again.

I have to agree with Christopher G.‘s review. I’ve lived in Lancaster my whole life and the only reason I seem to find myself in the Four Reasons Bakery & Deli is for a cupcake. I had their Cobb salad and half of a Sherman’s March sandwich. The salad should be renamed the blue cheese salad as that’s about the only thing that was on the salad. The sandwich was dry and the portion was pretty measly and reminds me more of Lee’s surrender at The Battle of Appomattox Court House than Sherman’s march to the sea. My bill was still expensive however. I might go back, next time I’m bored and uninspired.

This is my favorite lunch spot!!! All the food we have ordered has been excellent! I usually get a chicken salad croissant with salt and vinegar chips!!! Yummy then to the bakery for a «no bake» cookie ;). I truly love this spot for the neat location downtown and the ambiance as a whole. I just feel right at home while I’m sitting in there!!! We like to get the window seats to people watch outside :) lol

Went there for lunch today for the first time at about 12 o’clock. Parking was ample, location is cool, and the interior was retro with high ceilings… very nice. Too bad the love stops there. We both ordered the #7 (Buckeye) touted for having corned beef, turkey, lettuce, tomato, and deli mustard on a french roll. The girls working were less than ambitious, in fact, almost seemed annoyed at the questions were were asking. The included side of chips are actually very small bags of Conn’s., offered in 3 flavors, regular, sour cream and onion, and BBQ. The sandwiches were a big disappointment. Dry, dry, dry. dry. Skippy portions of meats with little flavor and tomatoes sliced so thin you could see through them. Ad one small piece of lettuce, and a small smear of Dijon mustard and you basically have a bread sandwich. Neither of us finished the sandwich, leaving mostly the bread. And even though there were only two other customers in the store, no one ever came over to ask how our meal was. In fact, not one single word was spoken after we ordered. This place is touted as the «Best deli in Lancaster», however, after some internet surfing, I found it was the ONLY deli in Lancaster. I did hear some folks that their bakery/​desert is top notch, so to be fair, will admit we did not try any… we just aren’t sweet/​desert types. My final observation is this place calls itself a deli, but you cant get meats or cheeses to go. To me, that makes them a sandwich shop, not a deli. In closing, I want to say, I normally dont leave low marks after just one visit, but since I am almost certain I wont be returning, I figured Id share my experience today.

I love the deli! We’ve been going here for years and is a stop whenever I’m in town. It has a good variety of food and the names of sandwiches and salads are named after local people and places, etc. There’s plenty of options and is well priced. There’s also artwork hung that’s for sale. Go when you get a chance!
