Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre

I like this place! They had good food and I saw a great musical too!
The theater is kind of hidden from Hwy. 30 though. The only reason I saw it was because I saw it on the way to a gas station.
The food was good. The main course was okay, the bow-​tie pasta was great and the mashed potatoes were good, but I was saving up for dessert.
For dessert, I had some amazing homemade pies and cake slices and some amazing
jell-​o on the side.
The play was amazing too. I saw «Oklahoma!», and I was never bored.
It was an overall great time

Let me start by saying that the show was amazing! I saw Les Miserables. The actors killed it !
The staff was very friendly and attentive… Given the number of people in attendance, that is impressive. Unfortunately, the food reminded me of the buffet from Vegas Vacation. The food was awful. Boxed potatoes au gratin and rice, dry fish, and so on. There was a large dessert selection.
The décor is very dated and dingy. The show was 3 hours and it was very uncomfortable for a number of us at the table
I’d go again just to see the show … Don’t go expecting an enjoyable dining experience

«Nice» is the perfect word to describe my experience… nothing to rave about but nothing to complain about either. It’s a fun date that’s a little different from the norm. My fiancé took me here for dinner and the Dixie Swim Team play. For the first hour you eat from the buffet. The food was okay. I had some items that were really tasty (the spinach and the fish) and other items that were bland and vaguely unpleasant (overcooked beef from the carving station, bland Spanish rice). There wasn’t much variety at the buffet; still there is a little something for everyone… gluten free and vegetarian options included. The servers which keep your glasses filled and clean up dirty plates were young… mid high school… and sweet but a little inexperienced. For example, the coffee girl (who was very nice) spilled coffee on the table just about every refill she gave me. After an hour they stop food service and coffee (but make sure you’re topped off first) and begin the play. The play was great! I wasn’t sure about if I’d like it or not but the actors really sold it! Lots of laughs and good local talent. All and all, an enjoyable night.

The food was ok, the show was funny, the price was good. No complaints! Nice night out with family and friends. Nothing amazing but it was a good time.

If you go here just go for the show. The acting in It’s a Wonderful Life is superb and well executed and that’s coming from a musical hater LOL. The show itself gets 4 stars but unfortunately its tied to a dining experience that was less than up to par I had to knock it down a notch.
First of all, you are crammed into seats at tables with other customers which on my night was a group of pleasant elderly ladies. One had an annoying cough and didn’t understand that every time she moved the people behind her had to readjust in order to see the show past her head. We sat on the outside end of the table near the very narrow aisle where the waiters were constantly going back and forth. There was a young (I mean like 14yo maybe) man on staff who came by every 5 minutes and very loudly and abruptly announced that it was last coffee call. The seating in this place needs to be reevaluated in terms of how to give guests best viewing experience and not how to get the most ppl in.
All of the food was tasteless… even the dessert… except the mashed potatos, so when I left I was famished. Green beans just taste plainly steamed like the rest of the vegetables. Bread was stale and the pot roast could have used some seasoning. I was really disappointed and went to find food afterwards.

We had a lovely time. Went to see A Wonderful Life… the show was very nicely done, the food was very good, and I’ll definitely be making plans to return. A great value for the money spent.

My wife and I had not been to Dutch Apple for a number of years. We went tonight for the Hairspray production. As Unilocal says, Woohoo! First, the food has shown a dramatic improvement over our past experiences. It was buffet food, but excellent nonetheless. Second, the Hairspray production was terrific! The lead, Megan Power as Tracy Turnblad, owned the part. Made it come alive. Chuck Caruso, as her mom, Edna, was a comic genius. The other leads were excellent as well. This show was a lot of fun from beginning to end. We thoroughly enjoyed it! We’ll have to stay in touch with their productions going forward and do this again.

Went in July to see The Music Man. The show was great and so was the service. The dinner food wasn’t to my liking, but the dessert was decent!

Wow, saw «Seven Brides for Seven Brothers» today. Food was very delicious and high quality. Delicious desserts and Turkey Hill ice cream. The show is upbeat, delightful, fast paced and well done. There is still time to see this great show. Nothing negative to say at all which made for a wonderful day out!

When people think performing arts and musical theatre, they think NY and Broadway. Places like the Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre in tinier towns allow you to appreciate how much artistic passion and talent is out there in the world. It’s always a pleasant surprise to see some talent from your local high school making it big with professionals who’ve been at it for a while.
I’ve been here for a couple of shows (Footloose, South Pacific, etc…), and always have left satisfied. The seats are filled every night and for the most part it appears that the audience enjoys the shows.
The service is pretty attentive, but with the dinner selection being at a buffet, table staff is pretty much relegated to refilling glasses of water.
At the end of the day, it’s dinner and a show for a bargain rate, so I don’t know what more they can do (they also have Turkey Hill ice cream and local made pies for dessert if that’s your thing).

I sort of hate to bring this up but our experience at Dutch Apple yesterday was flat out awful. We bought our tickets on their site the day of for the show «How I Became a Pirate» and boy were we penalized for that.
The drill here for shows is that normally you are seated, a server comes and asks if you want any additional beverages past their complimentary pink lemonade, you go up and eat, drinks are refilled once or twice and then the show happens.
Today it didn’t exactly work out that way for us.
I’m still too annoyed to give a detailed account but I’ll go bullet point:
* We were seated at a table with no place settings on it. Even though we bought tickets, it looked like someone dropped the ball and had no idea we were coming.
* We had a very lengthy wait for the member of the staff («C») that seated us to return with the place settings. During the lengthy wait, at least ten minutes but likely more, we attempted to go up and eat only to be blocked by a member of the bus staff who said we had to wait for our server («V») to take our drink order before we could eat except that «V» never showed up.
* «C» finally returned with the place settings but she spilled lemonade across the table and onto our laps. So now we’re at being seated for twenty minutes with nothing but lemonade on our table and laps but still no food and still no visit from a server for any other beverages.
* After finally being allowed to go up and get food we returned to a wet table that «C» never fully dried off. New place settings were eventually brought out along with attempt #2 at lemonade but the settings were just put onto the wet table in lieu of properly drying it off.
* The children were still eating so my wife and I went up to get them cupcakes to help speed the process along since so much time was wasted waiting for «C» and during the time we were gone «C» apparently showed up to refill our drinks only to spill lemonade on the table yet again while never refilling the drinks.
Enough!
Between being ignored for who knows how long after being seated, being blocked from eating by a staff member because we had to wait for a server even though the server never showed up, having drinks spilled on our table twice that were never fully cleaned up, never having a server visit us to ask if we wanted anything (nor did «C» ask if we wanted any water alcoholic-​beverages-​slushies for the kids, pink lemonade refills etc.) has left a real sour taste in our mouth that clearly our business was not appreciated and that clearly our showing up was not expected which was why no one wanted to deal with us.
The show itself was great but I can’t say I’ve ever felt as ostracized as we did today by a wait staff. Clearly the issue here is that buying tickets for a show the day of is not something that Dutch Apple can handle.
Never again.

We saw Cats and it was a really great performance, definitely comparable to the shows we’ve seen at the Kimmel center in the City. We missed the buffet but the staff was great and called us to make sure we were coming and even made us a platter of what we wanted. So although we didn’t get to try everything the chicken and mashed potatoes were both awesome. For dessert I had the strawberry shortcake type of cake and it was amazing! Great place to stop by in Lancaster for anyone who likes Broadway and simple delicious food!

The shows are always good, the food tastes ok, until later when the over seasoning of MSG (just a guess) hits you and your stomach bloats and you just want to die. This is the 2^nd time this has happened to both my husband and I, it’s bad. Go for the shows, but eat elsewhere first.

Can’t comment on the food, but the show we saw was worth it. We saw Fiddler on the Roof. The seats for the show-​only tickets were comfy theatre style too. The cast did an exceptional job and the sets were very well done. They did a great job of overcoming the small size of the stage.
