Dachshund Rescue and Placement

I would not recommend this rescue to anyone.
I have now had two horrible experiences.
The first rescue was a 3yr old dachshund who lived only 3 months before I had to put him down. His lungs were FILLED with cancer. ($ 3,000 in medical bills as well)
The second experience was my current 6 yr old dachshund. He was given to me without a microchip and with no dental exam. My first vet visit required 6 of his teeth be removed due to such bad condition.
I have now had him only one year and he is completely blind.
The dogs are not examined and medically attended to by this organization. NO rescue should ever release a dog in these unhealthy conditions not to mention without microchipping them first.
Very Unprofessional and do not recommend.

Joy has a huge heart and truly loves what she does. I discovered her rescue about two months ago and it has been a pleasure working with her from day one. I filled out an application for a puppy on her site and she called me within 15 minutes of submitting it. We arranged a meeting and she drove all the way from Lancaster to meet us at our home. We fell in love with the puppy and knew we wanted to adopt him, but we were leaving for a vacation two weeks later and didn’t think it would be fair to bring him home and have to leave him with a babysitter. Joy offered to keep him with her for a month until we returned from our vacation. We communicated via email almost daily and she kept me informed on everything going on with the puppy and all of the knew things she learned about him. She drove out a second time on his adoption day, and she brought with her a huge bag of food, blankets, and other things to help him with the transition. The $ 275 adoption fee seemed like such a small price to pay considering all she has done for us! Joy worked with our boy to potty train him, teach him manners, and get him used to a schedule. He has been with us for a week and is a perfect angel! After we adopted him, she emailed me asking about his first night and wanted to make sure he was doing well in his new home. For those who wrote a negative review, I believe this is because the people were not the right fit for the dog. Joy runs a rescue, not a breeding business. Her first priority is her dogs, which may not always please everyone. She makes sure she finds the right fit!

Joy Brunn runs a wonderful rescue and placement service for dachshunds. In 2012 I adopted a puppy from Joy at the recommendation of a friend who had adopted our puppy’s sister. Joy came and checked out my home to make sure it was suitable for one of her doxies, and introduced the puppy to my other doxies to observe how they got along.
If you are looking for a dachshund, please avoid the pet shops and backyard breeders. Call Joy and have her match you up with a wonderful doxie who is in need of a home.
I give Joy Brunn five stars. She is responsible, knowledgeable, and sensitive to the needs of these little angels that she rescues. Thank you Joy!

Joy has such a very kind heart. Her rescue has helped so many dachshunds. Her heart is huge! I have no doubt or question in my mind that when I’m ready and need help in finding another rescue, she will be able to find the perfect dog for me. Her heart is genuinely in the right place and hopes that the dog she places in its «furever» home will be its last destination. It is no easy job; I don’t know how she does it. But I’m forever grateful that there are so many dachshunds that she has rescued that would otherwise be put down or have died alone. Bless her for her continued dedication in finding a safe, secure home for these sweet, deserving dogs.

I have known Joy for approximately 6 years. She is one of the best rescue and placement organizations around. She is kind, dedicated and devoted to the dachshund breed. She is tireless in rescuing and placing doxies.

I had terrible experience with this woman, Joy Brunn. She knows very little about the dogs and will not provide additional information or pictures. I personally would like to make sure that her 501c3 information is all in order and that the money she charges is actually going to help the dogs. I also got pushed to buy some of her products. The point is, there are good people out there who really want to find homes for dogs and then there are the shady ones. This is a shady one. I just adopted my little guy from another rescue, and he is such a sweetie! My advice is, do your homework and don’t let these shady places discourage you. You can also go to any shelter in your area to adopt without dealing with someone like this.

I have had a miserable time with this rescue. Already having one Dachshund, we decided we wanted another and wanted to do the right thing by adopting a rescue, rather than perpetuating the puppy mills and breeders. What a nightmare! We are older responsible adults who worship the ground our dog walks on and we seem to never get anywhere with Joy. We had one dog we were set to adopt, had plan to drive 6 hours to meet Joy and pick up the dog, bought everything we needed for the little pup, then get a call past bedtime that we couldn’t get the dog. We were crushed. Joy always has a knack of blaming everyone instead of taking responsibility. She told us that the woman who had the dog was not ready and couldn’t find the paper work. I tried to make every possible way to adopt the little dog and nothing ever came of it. Joy told us it was the other lady’s fault. She told us to move on, which we reluctantly did. We soon found another dog on her website and said we would like to apply for him. Oh, she said, he’s not ready yet… so we waited and waited. Why was he on the website for adoption? So, we waited and could never get any more information hardly at all. Then she says we can adopt him but we need a house check. Fine. Another old lady came over and loved us, loved my dog and said he was the best taken care of dog she had seen. I talked to Joy again and she said we could drive down to pick him up next weekend. Great! While I am asking for more pictures and more info, she cuts me off with a 20 minute sales pitch on the dog harnasses she sells. I thought it odd. I checked her out online and she is also selling dog «vitamins». Then she sends me an email doubting whether I can take care of the dog because I twisted my ankle last week. Of course I can! Both of us can and our dog is fine and a happy little king that he is. This has been almost a month of running around with this woman. All she ever does is blame others for her lack of professionalism. Sadly, what she is really doing is running people off from adopting and running them straight to the puppy mills and breeders. My parents also went through hell and heart break in adopting their two dogs from a different rescue. I have such a bad feeling from this experience that I will never attempt a rescue again.
