History
Established in 1974.
John W. Purvis III started Purvis Jewelers November 18, 1974 with only 28 pieces of jewelry that he had made himself. His original idea was to create every piece himself, but as the business grew, he found that he it was impossibe to make every piece that he sold. Slowly he started adding jewelry from larger manufacturers to help keep his cases full and offer his customers a larger selection. Today Purvis Jewelers is Lakewoods oldest Jewelry Store with over 1000 pieces of finished jewelry and over 5000 loose diamonds and colored gemstones. Purvis Jewelers carries, white diamonds, colored diamonds, rubies, sapphires, opals, garnets, alexandrites, amethysts, emeralds, topaz, tanzanites, peridot, and many many more. Stop by and ask to see our vast selection.
Meet the Business Owner
John P.
Business Owner
Hi, I’m John W. Purvis III, I started making jewelry in March of 1971 as a senior at Golden High School. I quickly fell in love with making custom jewelry, so I went to Heritage Square in Golden, CO and got a job working for Jasen Jacobs at the Village Smith Gallery. I left Heritage Square in September of 1971 and attended CU in Boulder for one year. During my freshman year I worked Xmas and weekends at a different jewelry store in Heritage Square called El Rey Goldsmiths. At the end of my first year in college I decided that making custom jewelry was what I wanted for my full time career. I continued to work full time for El Rey until November of 1974 where I decided to branch out on my own. I started taking gemology courses and quickly became a gemologist and ultimately a Certified Gemologist Appraiser. I have won over 20 design awards and I am currently the president of the American Gem Society local guild, the Rocky Mt Jewelers Assoc. and V.P. of the GIA Alumni Assoc.
