OrthoColorado Hospital

I couldn’t of really had a worse experience. I went in for back surgery last week on December 29^th. During our time there we were passed around so many times and given different information from each person and almost every bit of the information was completely wrong.
When we arrived we were greeted and the receptionist told us we’d be checked in within a few minutes. My fiancé asked if she’d need to be around if the doctor would be speaking to her prior to the surgery. We were told no, that just be back around 4pm and the doctor would speak with her after the surgery was over. We found out that was false and the doctor was looking for her before surgery, but she ran errands based on the information we were given.
Next came the check-​in, which coincidentally also told us that my fiancé didn’t need to wait around and that the doctor would be speaking to her after surgery. In addition to that he mentioned a pharmacy near by that would deliver the meds to the hospital if we wanted to use that pharmacy. Found out after surgery when we were looking for the meds that no such pharmacy existed.
Once called back pre-​surgery went okay. The nurse was very friendly and helpful. My only real complaint here is they missed my vein on my left hand so I ended up getting both hands pricked in order to get set for the IV. I did meet with another gentleman who was writing my script just prior to going in for surgery. Unfortunately we found out once we were out of surgery that this script the gentleman was calling in, in fact never got called in and thus they were scrambling to get one called in immediately. At this point is when we also found out about no such thing as a delivery pharmacy and my fiancé had to go very quickly to grab the meds.
Post-​op is really when things just got frustrating and annoying. My fiancé finally spoke to the doctor and found out he was looking for her before surgery. I was passed from one post-​op nurse to the next after about 45 minutes because her shift was coming to an end and spending even a few extra minutes with me was not a priority of hers. She was nice, but that annoyed us some. The next nurse was also nice and helping deal with my bit of nauseous feeling. At this time the post-​op room is close to shutting down so they were getting me set to go upstairs until the nauseous feeling went away.
My fiancé had been handed a sticky note in the lobby that said nothing but go to room 392. No reason why and no explanation of anything going on. Once she got up there the room was dark and no one was there. The first person she spoke with said I was having trouble breathing, false information, and that I’d be staying overnight, also false. At this point my fiancé is freaking out a little. Once I got upstairs the next person we came in contact with said I couldn’t be released until I had used the restroom because I had a catheter in during surgery, WRONG! Finally the second post-​op nurse from earlier came upstairs and cleared everything up. I was released about 30 minutes later once the nauseous feeling subsided.
No one had really told us what to expect or what to do over the next few days except for another nurse who came into the room just prior to us leaving. His instructions were for me to try and move around and walk as much as the pain would allow. Over the next day plus I was up walking every 90 minutes doing a few laps around our place. The pain the night following surgery was beyond what we were prepared for, so we called and spoke to the on call doctor. He was beyond unfriendly and told me pretty much if it hurt then quit moving and just increase my meds. Complete contradiction to the nurse telling me to move around as much as possible.
The last straw that really got me was the next day someone from the hospital called. Mind you I’m still in lots of pain and heavily medicated. I thought this was a follow up call from our call the night before. Nope! Some lady just starts asking me questions like a survey, and as soon as I realize this I politely let her know I’m still in pain and heavily medicated and not in the mood to answer questions. What does she do? Just continues to try and ask me questions and tell me I need to give a good review upon someone else contacting me in the future for a survey. Real classy.
I like my doctor, but besides that I couldn’t imagine my overall experience being any worse. If you have other options I would go elsewhere for your surgery. The only positive I have is that the facility itself was very nice.

This hospital is beyond 5 stars! From the moment you walk in, everyone you encounter is extremely friendly and very empathetic of your condition and family.
Everything from the furnishings to the televisions and rooms makes you really comfortable. I didn’t even feel like I was in a hospital! It was that fancy!
I came in as a visitor after my father had his cervical and thoracic fusion performed by an amazing orthopedic surgeon. My father is not an easy person to take care of and I’ve been to many hospitals with him for his surgeries. The nurses and staff here at ortho Colorado really went above and beyond their duties to make sure my father and our family was comfortable.
If you’re ever getting ready to have surgery here, rest assured that you will be in the best hands!

This hospital is phenomenal. Having had 6 surgeries at this point, 4 of them involving my knees, having a surgery center/​hospital dedicated solely to orthopedic work was incredible for my lastest knee surgery (and my mother had her hip surgery there as well). The front desk staff was attentive, helpful before the day of, and took great care of my nervous partner during my operation. My pre-​op nurse Katy was friendly, competent and made me so comfortable, as did the OrthoColorado visiting massage therapist. The anethesiologist and her team, as well as the in house pharamcist, worked together to be efficent and take the best care of me, answering all my question and keeping things in order. While I remember little of the operation, my post op nurse Tracey (Traci?) took such amazing care of me, including bringing back my partner, helping him procure my crutches and meds, offering me extra warm blankets, etc. She then turned me over to Kelly who helped me keep down some applesauce and ginger ale before clearly explaining all my discharge instructions. All in all, I could not imagine a more supportive surgery experience, and found every single person here to be attentive, friendly and incredibly proficient at their positions. Highly recommend!
