History
Established in 1924.
John Mahall opened Mahall’s in 1924 as a social club with a few bowling lanes and billiards in the basement and a grand ballroom for live music on the upper level. Those original lanes are still there, and the ballroom was replaced with more lanes. In fact, by 1960, Mahall’s had 20 bowling lanes, a billiard hall, 2 bars and a restaurant. In 2012, after decades of running a community institution, the Mahall family sold the business to another family. The new owners (Kelly, Colin, Joe, Emily) are committed to preserving the historic integrity of the building and business. They added live music and changed the food & drink menus and a little makeover in the main/bar restaurant. Murals painted in the 1950s were uncovered in the main bar, under layers of old wallpaper. A tin ceiling from the 1920s was hiding beneath the drop ceiling. Mahall’s is a true gem, and this year (2014) it turns 90!
