Front Range Lumber

I called this business looking for cedar timbers to build a pergola. I gave the man my list of items over the phone and he quoted the price. He said they had all my required items in stock. «Oh yeah we are the largest stocker of rough sawn cedar timbers in Colorado!» I load up my family hook up to the trailer and drive 30 miles to Lakewood. We get there and I hand the list to the lady behind the counter. I tell her I had called a few days ago and was there to pick up these items. She looked at me like I had asked her to formulate a counter thesis to Einstein’s theory of relativity. «Sir, we don’t have ANY of this in stock.» They literally had not one item that I called about. I refuse to do business with those who lie. They took from me what I can’t get back… my time. I will NEVER buy from them and will discourage any who ask me from doing business with them as well. I would give «0» stars if Unilocal would let me.

Two words come to mind when I think about my experience with Front Range Lumber: Top Notch! I must admit, my lumber purchasing experience is minimal, but that shouldn’t discredit my experience from start to finish with Front Range Lumber.
I placed a call and spoke with John Sr. at 11:36 AM today (5÷18÷16). John answered all of my questions, reassured me that I was purchasing the right lumber for the job, at a price that was lower than what Home Depot and Lowes offered, and thanked me for my business when we were finished. My expectation was that the lumber would be delievered tomorrow (5÷19÷16), but within an hour I received a call letting me know my order was ready for delivery today (5÷18÷16) if I could accept it, which thankfully, I could. At 1:05 PM today (5÷18÷16), less than two hours after I placed the order, my lumber was delivered and staged, by Ian, ready to go for this weekend’s job. Like John Sr., Ian also thanked me for my business.
I’m not sure if or when I’ll need to purchase lumber again, but I can assure you, it will be from Front Range Lumber whenever that day comes.

Good business overall. Being a younger gentleman myself I felt a bit like the older employees couldn’t be bothered with me precisely because I was younger. However, their younger employee Logan showed me a great deal of respect. I am very uneducated in the areas of lumber, woodworking and carpentry. Logan worked with me to figure out what I needed and got it done for me. Not to mention he was friendly and welcoming. If FRL and Home Depot have the same thing I would prefer to get it at FRL.

I have used Front Range Lumber for over 12 years. They are a full service lumber yard. When I shop there they always know exactly what I am asking for, no deer in the head lights look. They have great prices for their lumber and the quality is always great.
Five star supplier

This is the closest lumber yard to my house and after two bad experiences out of six or so, I’m just done with them. I just finished a 380 foot privacy fence and was going to source all my cedar there but the gentleman at the desk was rude and didn’t seem bothered so I spent a day shopping around and was glad I did. Ordered my fence pickets from one company saving over 300 $ and then ordered all my 4×4 and 2×4 lumber from another in Wheatridge saving another 400 $. I did realize later I wanted two 12′ posts for the pedestrian gate so I could attach a decorative top and went back to FRL because of proximity and picked them up. A week later when I went to install them I saw one had cracked significantly from one end up about five feet making it unusable in my mind. Yes, they swapped it out but again these guys can’t be bothered. He put my bad lumber in the stack for another customer to get shafted with and pulled one out for me and essentially said «you can have one bowed or one with splits.» I’m done, done and done with those lazy old guys. It isn’t every guy I deal with there but it happens enough that I can’t be bothered anymore.

Purchased some doors from them on two separate days. First order was no problem, quick and easy. Second order was easy to place, but then got lost, and took about a week to get it sorted out. I was still very happy with the speed and friendliness of the staff.

Horrible experience with Front Range Lumber. I would not recommend them to anyone. I ordered almost $ 3K worth of lumber, some of the lumber was OK but the rest was terrible. I tried to talk with them about the quality of their lumber and they just told me it was #1 grade PT lumber and it comes with bark, knots, twists, and chewed up edges. I had to purchase additional lumber elsewhere to complete the project and when I asked them to please take back the extra lumber so it did not go to the dump — which I even offered for free, they told me NO! What kind of lumber yard is this!
In summary — they are a bottom price lumber yard with HORRIBLE customer service and questionable quality! Get your PT lumber elsewhere. Their yard is exposed to the weather, the PT lumber I received was full of mold, knots, chewey edges, twists and about 50% unusable. They give you a horrible time when you try to exchange — saying things like «this is good usable lumber» and «you don’t know what you are talking about». But if you try and return this «good usable lumber» they won’t accept it back. NOT EVEN FOR FREE!
Go somewhere else, I will next time.

In 12+ years of construction i have never been treated as badly as front range lumber has treated me! the first order we ordered they shipped us untreated wood even though we order treated wood they took it back but charge us a second delivery charge and then refused to refund either of the deliver charges. On the next order almost a third of the lumber I order was warped so badly that it could not be used for framing. When I called to see about getting those pieces of lumber replaced I was told by John one of the owners no we won’t replace them will just refund your money but we won’t ship anymore because you are too picky. when i asked if he had seen how bad those pieces of wood were warped he said no he had not look at them yet but still could claim that I was too picky. If I spent thousands of dollars and they treat me like this imagine how they will treat people who only order once and don’t spend near that much money. If I could have given negative stars I would have!!! I know they have mostly good reviews but in my opinion you would be stupid to use Front Range

I needed to replace an interior (closet) door and (somewhat improbably) checked with Front Range — which turned out to be a great choice! They offer a «door-​matching» service, whereby they route and mortise the hinge, handleset, and latch bolt cutouts on a raw door slab exactly as on the old door. With special thanks to George, their finish-​matching expert who guided me flawlessly, I was able to finish and hang the new door with ease. It looks (and works) as good as new! A hearty thank-​you to all for your help!

Bottom line: the lumber I purchased at Front Range Lumber was both cheaper and of better quality than that of the local big box stores.

I purchased some materials from Front Range Lumber to build a farm house table. I ordered my stuff, loaded it up and was on my way. My only gripe was that their website said free delivery but it wasn’t actually free. There was a $ 20 fuel charge and a minimum order that I did not meet.
Well as Murphy would have it I goofed up the table top and since it was Sunday (Front Range was closed) I bought replacement lumber from a big chain home improvement store. I found the prices were about 5% higher at the chain (no matter because they price matched, but still the big chain’s prices were higher) and the quality of the lumber, though the same type, was just well below that which I received at Front Range.
I completely recommend this place and will not shop anywhere else.

After nearly a year of back & forth between other companies and contractors, getting run around in circles and avoided, I’d about reached my limit. Then, my new contractor told me to inquire with Front Range about a bid for windows. {Enter sound of angels singing & harps playing} — wow, what a breath of fresh air to speak witih professionals who take their jobs and their company seriously. They have been professional, courteous, timely and have gone out of their way to call my contractor, fax information, answer my endless questions and double-​check measurements for me. It’s all been so easy working with them. I highly recommend that you work with Front Range for any orders you might need for equipment for your home improvement projects.

I ordered 12 new windows from them. They not only had the best prices, but the windows were delivered on time and in perfect shape. They even coached me on doing my own installation.
It’s the sort of old-​school family business that sadly isn’t frequently seen anymore.
