Crossland Economy Studios – Denver – Lakewood West

The room had a nauseating smell of cigarette smoke; but when I asked to change rooms, I was told that no other rooms were available. The front office did not return my driver’s license post check-​in & failed to notify me even though I was there for 3 days. I called & requested they please mail it to me, they promised they would, but never did. Hotel had frequent visits from police. Worst experience ever. Never again.

You know, I used to support this place despite all its quirkiness — I actually used to really like it here since it fits our needs pretty well. Since initially coming here in February 2015, staying a few months, and then returning on and off, I’ve watched it steadily decline (which is impressive considering how cracked out this place was to begin with — but to be fair, they were in the process of upgrading the rooms and did a decent job at that — watching the asbestos removal was interesting… yes, I’m totally serious). But! I’ve been here less than two hours today, and am thinking this may be the last time I bother booking here (this is contingent on what happens come next month, as apparently it has been sold and will be under new ownership starting in December 2015, so I guess I’ll have to book at least once more before I make a decision — and there ARE other choices around here that are just fine.).
To start, I came to check in shortly after 3:00 (their stated check-​in time), and listened to the (fairly unpleasant) person at the desk tell a very clearly disabled woman that she’d just have to wait, the cleaning staff was «late» today and her room was not ready. After basically dismissing her, she turned to me and said, «Are you paying?». Now, I didn’t hear her entirely because there were other people in the room who were talking, the TV was on, and she had an accent. So I said, «I’m sorry?», in that way that means, «could you please repeat as I did not clearly hear what you said». Her response was, «Are you paying? What do you want?».
Uh. How… charming.
It got better when she said that the room I paid for wasn’t paid for and that I’d have to pay for it. Now, see, I booked through Hotwire, as I always do (and they’re another story, what with their service that is rapidly declining), so the room HAD to be paid for in advance. THAT’S HOW HOTWIRE WORKS, and they know it. So I had to call Hotwire, who verified that yes, I had in fact PAID FOR THE ROOM. I was handed off to another counter person who finished checking me in while holding her baby in one arm (yes, really). She was very nice to deal with though, so that’s hardly the worst that could have happened.
While waiting to be checked in, I also witnessed two other things. The first was a man, who was evidently a long-​term resident, who came in to ask about having something in his room fixed (I didn’t catch what). The reply he got was no, sorry, nothing we can do, the place has been sold and we’re just running it until next month (whatever the hell that’s supposed to mean — pretty sure «running it» includes «maintaining it» — plus I saw the maintenance girl who’s been here forever, so there is still some form of maintaining going on). Anyway, he seemed a bit confused but didn’t argue and just left. Right after, another man came in to tell them that the soap dispenser had eaten his coins again, it was jammed, it didn’t dispense his soap, and did he have to fill out another form just for that!!! The unpleasant person I had initially dealt with told him pretty much the same thing — nothing they could do. They also didn’t have a soap thing that they could give him (really? what do they stock the machine with then? This is why I bring my own.). He seemed more exasperated than anything, but just said okay, and then left. If I’d been thinking I’d have told him to wait because I have a whole package of those laundry pod things and I could have given him one… I digress.
So I get up to my room. Pitch black inside, roasting hot, smells like old cigarettes. Finally found a light that worked (the one under the range) and had a look around. Filthy. Lovely. The lamps on the walls are all tilted in weird directions (I took a pic of two of them, haven’t moved them because I want my girlfriend to see what a mess it was before I neaten up). Kitchenette is nasty, sink is gross. No trash can, not in the main room or the bathroom. No trash can at all. None. At least the fridge is clean.
No shampoo. Two sad towels. Two absolutely DISGUSTING wash rags, literally dark gray (I took pix of those also, I’ll try to remember to upload one). I was DESPERATE for a shower though, and luckily had my own shampoo, so I used one of the gross gray rags. Only gave us one tiny soap (like the kind for the sink, not the shower). (Note to self: need soap). Dirty bathmat. Dirty bathroom sink.
If you know me you know that I have pretty low standards. I repeatedly rail against those who check in to 1-​star hotels and expect them to be the Ritz or something. I’m not like that, so if I’M complaining, you know it’s bad…
All of the good staff who used to work here are gone. I don’t blame them, I know they dealt with a lot of crap between both management and customers. These replacements are terrible. Now I’m all sad. :(But hey, free wifi. :P

This is why Unilocal exists. To avoid places like this. Upon my arrival I was told my reserved room would not be ready… at all. Apparently it was under construction, they said if i was to sleep there there would be no furniture. I left to go to a different hotel with the assurance that I would not get charged. A week later I was charged 120 dollars and had to call to get refunded.

this place is horrible!!! the staff is rude … every single one of them. my husband and i left one sunday morning and when we came back they had entered are room to change out are burners with out notice. this is colorado so we did have weed and left it out on the table. so they helped them selfs to my weed and also stoled a necklace a heart shaped diamond necklace my children got me for xmas. this place sucks

Awful. Awful. Awful. To start off with, there was one person working and when we got to our hotel the toilet didn’t work. The AC in the room also didn’t work, and there a stale stench. We called front desk and she said she would figure out if there were any other rooms for us to stay at. After not hearing anything for over half an hour or more, I walk outside and she’s standing on the side smoking. Very lazy and unprofessional. We finally got a different room after having to ask again in person. Very scary place, lots of weird, sketchy people staying there. Pretty sure a hotel got broken in to when we were staying there as well. The entire place inside and out was dirty, cigarettes and bottles laying everywhere. I wouldn’t suggest staying here, under any circumstance. Places that put no effort in to any part of their business, shouldn’t be in business.

Terrible place. Exposed wires, clear evidence of the door getting kicked open (holes on the wall from handle and door prop thing) and busted handle, smelled like armpit and butthole and cigarettes. Pink nail polish all over the furniture (??) and dirty towels. Bathroom not clean – hair and toilet paper on the floor. Woman at the front desk was complaining about how she had to do her job, and then lied about the room’s recent «renovation.» When I went to get the refund, she acted entirely inconvenienced as I interrupted her chain smoking cigarette break. And then blamed me for her own computer error. Don’t waste your time or money here.

Absolutely the most disgusting hotel I have ever seen and management at extended stay America after 7 phone calls wouldn’t even respond poor management across the board they should be ashamed

There TVs are the old box TV and 3 of the washers in the laundry rooms are broken. The front office came to my room 3 times because they did not know I checked in that mourning, somehow they thought I was suppose to check out so I dont want to think about what if I was not here to protect my property. The manager threatens to call the cops and I was trying to tell him I just checked in that mourning. Dont live here unless you want a few problems!

Totally gross… Walked in to my room, totally stained green chair, leaky toilet, and the heavy stench of cigarettes in the non smoking room. Your money would be more well spent elsewhere!!! If I had another choice I would be somewhere else.
